About
Recettear is the story of an item shop, the girl who lives in it, and the fairy who turned her life upside down. Recette Lemongrass finds herself in charge of an item shop built into her house, in order to pay back a loan her father took and then skipped out on - and Tear, her newfound fairy "companion", won't take no for an answer! As Recette, you have to decide how you'll get your stock - either through playing the markets in town or going out into the wild with an adventuring friend and thrashing beasts until they give up the goodies - how much to sell things for, what the shop should look like, and how to best go about getting the money Tear needs to pay off the loan. If you can't come up with the money... well, hope you like living in a cardboard box.

Came back to this game after I felt the need for a narrative light, mechanic based adventure. Boy did this hit the spot. You can't go wrong trying to figure out who can buy what, for what percentage, and going full capitalism mode in order to pull yourself out of debt! This game is wish fulfillment, with just a little bit of effort. You might spend 10 to 15 hours 'beating' the base game. But from what I've seen there is a lot of exploration still possible. I'm happy to say, it deserves all the love that it gets!.

Recettear game loop has 2 main parts: the item store and adventuring. Adventuring works very much like standard action JRPG from the time. Graphics and music are very similar to Secret of Mana. Not bad, but nothing unique either. There is a story, sometimes funny and quite nonsensical. Adventuring in dungeons gives you items that you can sell at your item shop. The main thing of this game is running the item store, obviously. I haven't played anything else quite like it. You choose which items to sell, some of them might be high or low price at times. Then people come to your store, and will offer to either buy or sell items to you. Then you can haggle the price up or down, or play it safe to get combo XP bonus. By completing sales you gain store XP, giving various updates such as store expansion, expanded item collection, etc. Recette as character is cute, cheery, little anime girl, guided by a "teacher" style fairy Tear. Some of the comments from the game ("Capitalism, ho!", "Money can be used to buy goods and services"), have become memes. The game does have surprisingly good writing at times. You could call Recettear as having light visual novel sections as well, when Recette is browsing the town, meeting citizens. Recettear is not a super complex, but it is lighthearted, fun and unique. I have bought this game twice, first time was on Stardock Impulse many years ago.
I just kinda got this game since it sounds like something I'd like, get items through adventure (and other means) sell the items a store, get money, buy better items, get money, level up and get even more items, you get the idea, and the cute characters are a huge plus! Only downside is the combat can be a little boring at times but otherwise it's a really fun and cute little game! another factor it reminds me of an old 2005 flash game i used to play, uh... it was kinda NSFW but it's very similar to it, which gives me a nice flashback. btw this game is BRUTAL in terms of difficulty after week 4 you will probably be resetting
It would be nice if there were some quality of life options, such as remembering what you sold an item at last, or swapping to the category of the item the customer is asking for, it's a very lovely game. I like that when you lose you can start over but keep your progress. It's challenging, but not punishing. I feel the dungeon aspect is a little janky, and I didn't play with it much, but I did enjoy the dungeon designs and monster variety. Plus the traps were quite fun too. All in all, it's a cute little game. I like that there's an endless mode, but I probably won't play it. The game is starting to give me RSI from all the menus. Still, a fun little game.
Very satisfying gameplay loop.
Recettear is a classic shop simulator / RPG combo. It's a simple & easy yet fun game with major wholesome vibes. This game is not built for modern hardware, and is not visually impressive to begin with, so don't expect this game to look too good on a big screen. That being said, it's a cute & charming game to pass the time. I think there are better games out there with the same concept - "Moonlighter" comes to mind. That being said, I'm sure Recettear walked to Moonlighter could run. I'd recommend getting this game if you're looking for a simple, repetitive and fun game to pass the time & it's on discount. Otherwise, I think your money might be better spent elsewhere.
