Reviews
Here's why I'm leaving a negative review: 1: The Community. The people that play this game are the following: Racist. They freely throw around both the soft n word and the hard n word without any consequences whatsoever. Sexist. They think they're "sigma" because they hate women and think they're better because they're a man. Incels. They're lonely losers who can't get a girl because no girl is interested in a fat neckbeard who lives in his mom's basement and plays this game all day, and yet they don't blame themselves, they blame women for their own problems. Simps. They are desperate. They will say or do literally anything if a woman asks them to. They will agree with anything a woman says. They will like you just because you're a woman. Virgins. They've never had sex, and it's very obvious. The people who have sex are the same people who don't play this game all day every day, the same people who don't have shinies and DPS sets 2 days into the new season, the same people who aren't white star and fully exalted. Gooners. Disgusting perverts who want to ♥♥♥♥ the pixels on their screens. Disgusting perverts who are proud of how much they edge themselves, proud of how much they masturbate. 2: Discord. You cannot fully enjoy this game without Discord. Good luck trying to complete an endgame dungeon without a group of sweaty tryhards, the kind of group you can only find in raiding discords like Maximum Efficiency and Shiny Hunters. 3: Gatekeepers And Elitists. These are the people who will kick you from the party just because you shot Oryx's shield too many times on accident in an O3. These are the people who will kick you because you shot the boss in a treasure room too many times and so they couldn't get loot (you know, THE WHOLE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PURPOSE OF THE GAME). If they couldn't get loot, how is that your fault? They couldn't get loot because they weren't fast enough. They will also not let you play with them if your gear isn't good enough. God forbid the dungeon take a nanosecond longer just because you're missing an item or two on their very specific, very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ requirements sheets. 4: Cheaters. Whether it's auto-nexusing (a client that nexuses for you once your HP reaches a certain threshold or lower), multiboxing (a client that stacks multiple players and their projectiles on top of each other, allowing for dps that is normally impossible), or auto-dodging (a client that literally plays the game for you by automatically dodging projectiles), cheaters are abundant, and they don't even try and hide it because they know they won't get banned. Deca Games doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about cheaters, instead rolling out stupid-ass programs and initiatives to get the community to do their job for them. But why would they? The community benefits from cheaters. Why would the community come together to get rid of something that they benefit from? 5: Greed. Deca Games doesn't care about this game, they only care about how much money they can milk out of it before it inevitably dies. For example, dungeon drop rates in the realm are deliberately lowered so you'll be tempted to buy keys, which are a fast, guaranteed way to get the dungeons you want. At this point, the shop is updated more than the actual game. 6: Unity Engine. This ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game engine man, I swear to god. Why do these companies keep using this ♥♥♥♥♥♥-ass engine to make their games? Have fun troubleshooting for god knows how long until the game finally stops abruptly crashing. For some reason it's the most common on the loading screens, which brings me to my next point. 7: The Loading Screens. They take forever, display tooltips that either tell you about lore you don't care about, straight up lie to you, or make you physically recoil from cringe, and they're just an eyesore to look at. 8: The Servers. They constantly crash, meaning that when people inevitably give in to temptation and spend their money on keys and pop them, chances are they will get scammed out of that key because Deca Games can't be bothered to fix their ♥♥♥♥-ass servers, because that doesn't make them money. 9: This Game Is Not New Player Friendly. More often than not something ♥♥♥♥♥♥ happens to me in this game and I find myself thinking "If I was a new player and this happened to me, I would've quit already.". The only thing new players have to teach them how to play is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tutorial that hasn't been updated in years and a video from Deca Games' golden child, Sebchoof, who is an overrated content creator for this game that people meat ride like their lives depend on it even though most people have better characters and better accounts overall, like me. 10: Bots. In every nexus, in every realm, there are bots that promote services you don't need or care about. I won't give any specific examples because all publicity is good publicity to them. You can ignore these bots yeah, but more will take their place, no matter how many bots you ignore, it feels like there's an infinite amount of them, and some of them personally message newer players that don't know any better. Deca Games even rolled out a feature to help fight against this issue that allows you to ignore all messages from players with 10 or less stars, but the bots found a way around this, by conveniently having 11 stars, just enough to still be heard. 11: The Game Is Repetitive. It's the same dungeons, the same bosses, the same enemies in the realm, it's all the same, and this game doesn't get updated nearly often enough to warrant playing it every day. In conclusion, don't ever play this game. Even if it's the only thing you can run, I don't care. You're better off without this game in your life. You will become much happier as soon as you close the game and uninstall it.

I started playing about a week ago through Steam, and was having a blast actually. Then, I try to log in today, and I get "your account has been suspended for breaching terms of service." What...? All I've done is play through Steam. The only time I ever typed in chat EVER was on the first day, I asked about server maintenance, and the 3rd day, a player in a dungeon told me to stay behind him he would carry. At the end I said, "wow, you really weren't kidding about carrying" These are the only chat messages I ever typed in game, so it can't be that. I had read reviews before about how the company in charge of this game was awful and you ran the risk of losing everything for no reason, but man they were not kidding at all. I regret getting into this game because it was actually fun when I needed a little distraction. Apparently they will just ban your account for no reason at all. Bummer. I won't be back. Edit - One last thing, when you log into the game and go into the town hub, there are always about 10 bots standing there spamming paid services like buying gear or whatever. Always. Instead of actually banning these easy to spot bots, they are banning actual players. Not sure what the end goal is here developers. Not a good way to keep a game going.
genuinely generational game concept, getting into it is hard tho
You will get randomly disconnected and then locked out of the game for anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes at a time. Judging by community feedback, this is a known issue that the developers have ignored for years. When you finally do get to play, the end-game is a lagging mess. During 80-player boss events, the servers can't handle the load. Instead of balancing the game properly, the developers rely on artificially extending fights by making bosses completely immune to damage 90% of the time just so they don't get one-shot by the crowd. It’s a frustrating, lazy band-aid fix for poor game design. Cannot recommend.
Been playing this game off and on for 15 years. Nothing compares to the mechanics and dopamine rushes of getting those white bags. It truly is one of kind
So, RotMG is a great game overall, challenging, rewarding, and sometimes rage inducing. The problem is that Deca doesn't know what the term "Competent servers" means. Their entire network goes down at least once a day and it is barely uncommon to be booted out for no fault of your own doing something as simple as going back to the nexus or, god forbid, having to Alt+F4 because the game decided to lag out and make everything drift as if they were on the world's slipperiest ice. And mind you. they reset the servers daily too. They give warning for this, but they crash so often they might as well not even reset em. And mind you, this review was caused by this exact case happening. I had to Alt+F4 cause the servers took a ♥♥♥♥, and they legit crashed for awhile. For fun, I'm gonna list all server crashes I've had since writing this review: 7
Ive spend exactly 200 dollars for vault space and upgrades back. Now I have to spend money again to unlock more vault space and animals because I have a brand new account. I would like to have my account restored or i would like compensation for the money i spend on this game so i can atleast unlock vault space again, please? if no, then i must not recommend this game to people, or rather dont spend money because it will be all for not when they decide to delete your account and you lose all you paid for.
Developers literally said they will deactivate/delete your account after 2 years by using GDPR law as an excuse as i cannot understand how my "account" in this game has sensitive data that requires it to be deleted yes you read correctly after 24 months, which is wild because a user asked them the specifics and they even mention themselves "But we cannot justify keeping player data for 3+ years without a player’s consent and without us having to make sure data is always kept up-to-date" so you can keep my account active more than two years but you need my consent to do so? so why is there no way for players to opt into allowing their account data be kept for longer than 2 years? you guys state you could if a player's consent is given but i did not or was not given option to keep my account active past that point. This is clearly to just wipe accounts to save on what i assume is server space or something stupid and some weird hope that a player would come back and start again from zero and pay money for some reason in a game where if you took a two year break they kill your account. Sorry this is a ♥♥♥♥ poor excuse imo and i won't be coming back and would urge others mainly new players to not bother with this game and for those who already lost their account that could have years worth of stuff on it that could cost real ♥♥♥♥♥ money im so sorry.
Realm of the Mad God Exalt is a fascinating hybrid of massively multiplayer online role-playing mechanics and arcade-inspired bullet-hell action, delivering an experience that feels remarkably different from most free-to-play MMORPGs on the market. Developed by Wild Shadow Studios and Deca Live Operations GmbH and published by Deca Live Operations GmbH, the game places players in a chaotic fantasy world where survival depends as much on personal skill as character progression. Rather than focusing on lengthy quest chains or story-driven exploration, the game emphasizes cooperative combat, rapid advancement, and high-risk encounters that constantly test a player's reflexes and decision-making. The game's greatest strength lies in its fast-paced combat system. Every battle is built around dodging waves of projectiles while attacking enemies in real time, creating an experience that feels closer to a classic shoot-'em-up than a traditional MMORPG. Enemy attacks are clearly telegraphed, but the sheer volume of bullets on screen during larger encounters can be overwhelming. Success comes from learning movement patterns, positioning carefully, and reacting quickly under pressure. This active combat style keeps even routine encounters engaging and ensures that player skill remains an important factor regardless of equipment or character level. Realm of the Mad God Exalt also excels at encouraging cooperation. Hundreds of players can share the same realm, working together to clear objectives, defeat world bosses, and unlock challenging dungeons. The cooperative structure feels natural because players can join battles at any moment without complicated party systems or matchmaking requirements. Large-scale encounters are particularly exciting, as dozens of adventurers coordinate attacks against powerful enemies while simultaneously avoiding devastating attacks. The constant presence of other players gives the world a lively atmosphere and reinforces the feeling that everyone is working toward a common goal. A defining feature of the game is its permanent death mechanic. When a character falls in battle, that character is lost forever along with much of the equipment they carried. This system introduces a level of tension rarely found in modern online games. Every dungeon run becomes a meaningful risk, and every piece of rare loot feels valuable because failure can result in significant losses. While this mechanic can be frustrating, especially for newcomers, it also creates some of the game's most memorable moments. Escaping a difficult encounter with valuable rewards feels genuinely rewarding because the danger is real. The class system provides substantial variety and replay value. Players can unlock and experiment with numerous character classes, each featuring unique weapons, abilities, and combat roles. Some specialize in heavy frontline combat, while others focus on ranged damage, support skills, or tactical utility. Because classes play differently from one another, creating new characters never feels like repeating the same journey. The progression system encourages players to master multiple classes and discover which playstyles suit them best. Visually, the game embraces a retro pixel-art presentation that remains charming despite its simplicity. The graphics are not designed to compete with visually realistic MMORPGs, but they serve the gameplay exceptionally well. Character sprites, enemy attacks, and environmental details remain easy to read even during intense battles filled with players and projectiles. The Exalt client modernizes the technical foundation while preserving the classic aesthetic that longtime fans appreciate. Combined with a fitting soundtrack and energetic sound effects, the visual design contributes to the game's distinctive identity. Content variety is another major advantage. The game offers a large selection of dungeons, bosses, seasonal events, equipment sets, and progression goals that provide long-term motivation. As players improve their characters and skills, they gain access to increasingly difficult challenges that demand coordination and mastery. Frequent updates help keep the experience fresh, introducing new objectives and ensuring that veteran players continue to have reasons to return. Despite its many strengths, the game does have weaknesses. The learning curve can be intimidating, particularly because permanent death punishes mistakes severely. New players may struggle to understand progression systems or survive difficult encounters without guidance from the community. Additionally, some aspects of the free-to-play model may not appeal to everyone, particularly those who prefer completely unrestricted progression systems. Occasional technical issues and server-related frustrations can also impact the experience, though these problems are generally outweighed by the game's strengths. Realm of the Mad God Exalt succeeds because it offers something genuinely unique within the MMORPG genre. Its combination of cooperative multiplayer action, skill-driven combat, meaningful risk, and extensive progression creates an addictive gameplay loop that remains engaging long after the initial hours. While its unforgiving mechanics may not be suitable for every player, those willing to embrace the challenge will discover a deep and rewarding online experience that stands apart from more conventional MMORPGs.
