I kinda hate shmup games. Most are way too hard to really be much fun. I am 45, I don't have reflexes like a cat, and I don't want to memorize every single enemy spawn just to have a chance at finishing this game. Which is why I love this game. Its totally beatable by the average gamer, you don't need to be a shmup freak. I also love that it is has an upgrade store. Not frantic upgrades you die trying to get, and then lose when you die. For a game from the 90s this was way ahead of its time. This may just be my favorite shmup of all time. I have played plenty, not a ton, but I am 44 and been gaming for over 25 years. I have played a lot. Mouse is a little wonky, it feels stuck, but honestly just jangle it and it becomes unstuck. My xbox controller worked no problem out of the get go but I couldn't figure out how to switch weapons, but you don't really need to that in this game. I can't believe this game still holds up after so long.
Critical bug. Can't override saves. Would be great otherwise.

I played this the first time as kid on my father's PC via a demo on the PC magazine CD. So much good memories and my first touch point with vertical Shoot-’em-up games that then I later played a lot on arcade machines. All just to point out that wouldn't the game been a good representer of its genre, I wouldn't spend many more hours on the genre. I loved the over the edge military scenario, weapon and enemy variety, the map design with ground and air targets, the upgrade features between the missions, the slide story elements.
when i was a kid my dad got me a copy of the shareware version of this game and I played it until i memorized every single position of every plane and building and knew my flight lines, I just played it like almost 30 years later and remember the positions and timing of the first couple parts of bravo sector. I really didn't know that it was just a demo back then but now that I'm an adult i look back and think what an AH he was for not getting me a full version. Anyway it's an amazing game and I'm happy i was able to pick it up for 83 cents instead of having to find some sketchy emulator website.
If you remember the old 94 version, and got all excited because there's a remaster, and you thought "hey, this is awesome! Raptor was such a fun mindless game I definitely want to get it!" Don't. The game is riddled with bugs; your saves aren't obvious and if you're used to saving after every mission, you will soon find out that you are out of saves! But where are they located at so you can delete a few? Certainly not installed on you computer that's for sure! No, you get to use the "load mission" option and try to remember what your cash was like so you don't delete the wrong file. And achievements? Bugged. Bugged all over the place. You might get the boat, you might not. You might get destroy, you might not. You might even get the beat all sectors but don't count on it. You can play the game in so many fashions; one sector in a round robin fashion, until the last three things you do are the final wave of each, thinking hey, that will trigger the achievement. No luck. Play through it one sector at a time, that has to work! No, it doesn't. For 5 bucks, which is about what I paid for it, you'll get about 5 or 6 hours of mindless button pressing. So a buck an hour of trying to achievement grind for things that are indeed, bugged. But you still gotta try, right? Music is still good though, loops in bad places but that's that. Wish they would have done more of the night colors instead of just two stages out of 18.
Хороший порт хорошей игры в хорошем жанре. Ничего плохого не вижу.
Know how satisfying it is to smash bubble-wraps?? Well, Raptor C.O.T.S. is the 'bubble-wrap smashing for me! I go through it again and again and again.
Не вижу смысла в этой версии, если от Raptor: Call of the Shadows (1994 Classic Edition)
Holy heck is this a LAZY re-release. Mouse input is just outright non-functional, disallowing agile flight but also meaning that you often can't work menus AT ALL. But also, this is just a very lazy emulation, rather than an actual re-release with QoL improvements, something I learned when I bought extra AA missiles (dreaming of swarmfire); I'm allowed to BUY extras, but I am not allowed to USE extras, something indicated exactly nowhere and bjorking the run. For $7.50 AUD, I expected at least a marginally better experience than just grabbing a download of an old '94 copy and emulating it myself. Bummer.
Since my opinion of the original Raptor, played today, isn’t positive, it can’t be any better for this edition either, which doesn’t even offer much beyond one of those lousy "HQ" filters and, more usefully, the ability to configure the control layout. That aside, if you already didn’t like the game, as I do, this will do nothing to change your mind.
