14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 15: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Today, I finished Quantum Break on PC through Steam. I finished the main story once, making choices that seemed fitting for me, while obtaining every single collectible, and watched its respective 4 episodes of the show based on the choices I made, and went online to see some of the alternate paths and what they entailed. It took me almost 13 hours in total. Quantum Break is an ambitious multimedia project by the creative wizards at Remedy as part of their interconnected universe (officially at the time, extra-officially due to rights issues now). At its core it's a competent third person shooter with basic platforming and a set of upgradeable time-bending powers that spice up the combat in fairly exciting ways. But additionally, it's also a modular TV show where various choices made throughout the game impact the events depicted in both small and large ways, and inform the next part of the game by focusing on the sides of the story that cannot be conveyed through gameplay. Playing this game has been a long time coming ever since it first left the possessive maws of its original Xbox One exclusivity, and landed in the clunky unoptimized lands of the Microsoft Store. Luckily, in its current state, the game is mostly stable, albeit still inexplicably dependent on an Internet connection to stream the episodes, even though in its original platform, it allows you to download an optional add-on to avoid having to stream them. The option would've been nice and preferable when dealing with spotty connections, and for future-proofing's sake when such servers are no longer available. The combat is simple, if a bit stiff and filled with bullet-sponge enemies that make going through the game a bit of a chore at times, a problem that is enhanced by equally spotty character movement and animations that oftentimes break the illusion of the mixed media back and forth. A lot of it, however, is saved by its stunning graphical fidelity that still manages to impress ten years down the line, with gorgeous character models and equally outstanding environmental lighting from a world before ray tracing became the norm. Exploration is greatly rewarded for lore-fiends that are as intrigued as I was about the lore and the way the science functions in this universe, with a plethora of documents, e-mails, videos and audio recordings that act as additional enriching material to round off this complex universe and further connect its two main mediums. Therein lies the main strengths of this entire project, as it does in most of the others by Remedy: its gloriously creative worldbuilding and storytelling. Quantum Break, as its name implies, tells a mind-bending story of time travel that seems greatly influenced by other popular media of its kind, like Back to the Future, Terminator and X-Men: Days of Future Past, with a healthy dose of the common denominators of Remedy's repertoire, like The X-Files and The Twilight Zone. The cast is rounded off by a good set of solid performers that do their best to bridge the gap between the mediums in a mostly seamless manner, with Shawn Ashmore, from X-Men fame, being a decent, if a bit wooden lead as the protagonist Jack Joyce; Aidan Gillen, from Game of Thrones fame, offering a good nuanced take on the antagonist/co-protagonist Paul Serene; and the first collaboration between Control's Courtney Hope and Remedy, bringing to life a surprisingly endearing character in Beth Wilder. However, both of these performances pale in comparison to the wonderfully weird and always entertaining presence of the late, and sorely missed, Lance Reddick, as the enigmatic Martin Hatch. The story flows in a quite fast pace for what ends up being a short experience due to its ambitious nature, that lasts long enough to reach a mostly satisfying narrative conclusion, yet not enough to create much of a lasting impact, its climax feeling slightly underbaked and a bit of a tragic sequel-bait, considering the fact that at this point a sequel seems quite out of the picture. Still, the ideas at play do a lot of heavy lifting in making certain moments land with a punch and make the experience, in my humble opinion, certainly worth going through at least once. Projects with such experimental ideas don't always have to be masterpieces to leave a mark in the gaming world, and Quantum Break certainly proves the point by being exceptionally solid, and proving a concept that should certainly be attempted again in the future, and I certainly hope that it is in our destiny to see something like it again, stronger, sturdier and perfected into its final form, because in its current form, to sum it all up in a few words, I still quite enjoyed my time with it. I wonder if there is a better way of expressing my enjoyment of this title, considering how up my alley this entire concept was, having gone through its time machine of an experience, ending up in a predetermined future where I was always going to like it in one way or another. In fact, let me try this one more time: Today, I finished Quantum Break on PC through Steam, and... actually, never mind... you already know the rest. GREAT ◆◆◆⬖
/Deutsch weiter unten/ So .. graphically, and in terms of what it does gameplay-wise, I actually find the game quite appealing. The story is interesting to follow, though not exactly gripping (in my opinion). The gunplay combined with the special abilities can be fun and isn't too difficult, which leads to a very relaxed playstyle during normal gameplay. However, when it comes to a boss fight, the difficulty spikes very suddenly, which stands in stark contrast to the rest of the game. To make matters worse, the checkpoints during these exact boss fights are rather poorly placed. If you die, you're forced to trudge through half the linear level again, listen to the exact same dialogue lines, and watch the exact same scripted sequences all over again .. and that's a total dealbreaker for me! Another thing that really bothered me from the very beginning is the fact that while the world is filled with text snippets, journal entries, etc., which contain a lot of lore and background information, the game constantly gives you the feeling that you have no time to actually read them. You always need to rush somewhere, follow someone, or someone wants you to open a door for them. Sometimes, if you take just a little longer, an NPC will even comment on it, telling you to finally hurry up or that you urgently need to do this or that. The game does not pause when you open these texts, making it very uncomfortable if you just want to read through them in peace. Due to the reasons mentioned above, I have now dropped the game, mainly because of the terrible checkpoint during the first boss fight. I just don’t have the patience for that kind of thing anymore, but I'm sure there are people who won't mind. By the way, anyone who still wants to give the game a fair chance should also be prepared for the fact that between chapters, there are live-action cutscenes lasting 10–15 minutes, where you can only watch and not play! Personally, I didn't mind that and actually found it quite interesting, but it's definitely something you should know beforehand. However, it's a thumbs down from me this time.
Community manager Vida Starčević thinks killing people with different views is a good thing, and said on twitter "all I do at work is befriend everyone on the writing team so I can then tell them to make every character gay every time it's feasible to bring up (more often than you think) if you think this isn't about you (affectionately) yes it is it's called direct action"
Phenomenal, I've had this game rotting in my library for years.. Should have played it sooner!
This is mostly for myself, but for anyone interested in my in-depth review.. enjoy! I will be comparing this to remedy's other two games before this - Alan Wake & American Nightmare! TLDR; 78.25 / 100 This is Remedy's most put together title of the three they released (starting with Alan Wake). Huge advancements in graphics, although flawed and unoptimized. Awesome storytelling. Gameplay needs alot of work. Worth experiencing though! 1. GAMEPLAY : 5.8/10 Gameplay Loop - 0.5/2.5 Okay. Some problems here. Most of the time you are in control of your character, you are hunting collectibles or reading said collectibles. Some of them are legit 5+ minute reads and there are 75-100 of them throughout the 13 HOUR game. Don't get me started on the HORRIBLE checkpoint system. It must be noted that this game has about 2 hours of in-game live action cutscenes about 25-30 minutes a piece. They are good, but be warned. Combat - 1/2.5 Listen. There is some really really good theoretical combat here. The abilities are sick. In actuality, it's not that much fun to me. A good chunk of the enemies seem honestly mostly immune to some of your abilities, forcing you to basically just shoot at them. The shooting is not great. Step up from Alan Wake + American Nightmare, but still not great. No dedicated sprint button (other than a short lived ability), no cover/crouch button (you must rely on the game to decide when you can cover). Not great all around, but the concept is good. There are some decent moments. Atmosphere / Immersion 1.8/2.5 It's fine. Nowhere near Alan Wake, though. Responsiveness / game feel 2.5/2.5 Overall, controls are good. Game is responsive and moving around/climbing etc feels good. 2. STORY : 9.3/10 Plot 2/2 Other than a slow start, this game will keep you on the edge of your seat. How it all comes together in the end was chef's kiss! Characters 1.8/2 Some really really good characters - in the "live action show" cutscenes and in-game. I was attached to most of them, ironically not the main character much. Dialogue 2/2 No bad dialogue here. Even the TV episodes were well written. Writing 2/2 The writing came together in a way that genuinely made sense and tied things together well. Emotional Impact 1.5/2 Not going to make you ball like the last of us. But there are some moments where I teared up a bit. 3. GRAPHICS : 8.5/10 Visual Quality 1/2.5 I don't know what is wrong with the rendering engine. This game could look fantastic (and sometimes does) but it is randomly blurry and has a lot of strange rendering behaviors that really retract from the presentation. Impressive for 2016, blows AW/AWAN out of the water, but easily surpassed by 2015's Arkham Knight for instance. Art Direction 2.5/2.5 Animations 2.5 /2.5 Everything is Mocap! Amazing. Lighting 2.5/2.5 Stellar. 4. SOUND : 7.5/10 Soundtrack 1/3.5 Forgettable OST. Some great real world music - Royal Blood & Death From Above 1979 notably. Sound effects 3/3 Voice Acting 3.5/3.5 Really stellar work here. A lot of experience actors in this game. Rating this for the acting in general since there is a lot of live action here. Not Oscar-Worthy, but it doesn't lose points because nothing will take you out of the experience acting wise. 5. LEVEL/WORLD DESIGN : 6/10 Level layout 2/2 Exploration 0.5/2 This game does not reward exploration really at all, other than collectible essays and rather boring radio shows. Notable that there were some Alan Wake related easter eggs to find. Other then that, no real reason to explore at all. Environmental Variety 0.5/2 Every level genuinely feels and looks rather the same. World Building 1/2 Amount of world building? Nailed it there. Like I said, literal essays can be found. However, I wish it was trickled down to you, it's more like shoved down your throat in large quantities. Several points in the game, I spent about 20 minutes reading because they laid out 5-10 collectible notes in a row. Navigation 2/2 No problems. Easy to find objectives and collectibles. 6. PERFORMANCE / TECH : 6.9/10 FPS 1.5/3.5 Alright, first world problem. I am running at 4k on a 9070xt. This game is 10 years old, I couldn't hit 60fps. No ray tracing or anything. Badly optimized. Stable frame times once I got settings that worked. Stability 3.4/3.5 One crash, fluke though. Technology included 2/3 Impressed here. Like I said, this game is 10 years old. They have upscaling included, no idea which, but it looks good. The engine itself has some rendering issues, so lost points there. 7. VALUE : 10/10 I got this game on a cheap sale. However, it's 40 dollars with like most of the gameplay being collectibles OR cutscenes. I would say roughly 70% of the game you aren't actually doing a whole lot of gameplay, lol. Not dropping the score, because the story is worth experiencing - for what I paid, it's great value. 8. DIFFICULTY : 7.25/10 Balance 3.25/3.5 You are powerful. Enemies are also balanced to counteract you. Maybe a bit too much, for my taste though. AI ability 1/3 Pretty bad. They just run around you and shoot you. Also have the ability to spot you 3000 miles away standing still. Challenge 3/3.5 Playing on Hard wasn't too bad, but required use of all your abilites! It's a shame that it's required to 100% the game. Because replaying certain levels on normal was genuinely more fun. On hard, enemies are just damage sponges. The last boss fight was God awful on hard. But, it's just a bad boss fight in general lol. 9. ACHEIVEMENTS 0/10 Require a NG+? 3/3 No NG+ or secondary playthrough required. Some achievements are given for making specific choices. Can simply replay those sections from the menu (each one is less than like 5 minutes). Collectibles 3/3.5 So many. Luckily the game makes it easy to find. However, if you miss them. You must restart the entire level to go back. Can't restart a level from a checkpoint (from the menu). This is getting 3 points because, it was easy to get them all, and they all had value. Difficulty / RNG 3.5/3.5 No grindy, rng, or absurd achievements! You have to play on hard, but, it's really not bad at all. 10. OVERALL ENJOYMENT 7.5/10 I had a lot of fun. The story kept me engaged more than most do.
