The game is missing alot of basic features. Controls are overly complicated and interfer with each other. for example: There is no way to communicate with your crew unless they are other players, in which case you have to use in-game text or voice chat. This makes the captain role nothing more than ornamental. If you are the first player into a game, you are unable to start unless you choose the captain role. Since there aren't many players, you're basically guaranteed to be forced into the captain role and stuck with deaf, dumb, suicidal bots. There is no way to mark objectives or POI's. No map markers other than route planning which by default uses the same control as change view to ship exterior, so every time you want to plot a route, your camera changes. There's no jump but you get a jet pack which uses the same control as "free mouse pointer"(which allows you to interact with things on screen using the mouse). If you want to jump, you can't look around or steer anymore. There is no way to check information about a system before you warp to it, making almost every jump a blind jump. There are very few systems with services like repair, refuel, food, crew equipment, and ship equipment. Each one is marked on the star map and are several jumps away from each other that include at lest 1 jump in hostile territory, unless you get super lucky with the randomized map seed. All factions are hostile to each other, so if you pick GU(Galactic Union) which is the government faction in this game, and jump into a Fluffy Biscuit Corp (a food production and delivery business, not a PMC) controlled system, you are immediately fired upon. Why is a food services company killing government agents on sight? DON'T KNOW! Why is the murderous anti-government faction allowed in GU stations? DON'T KNOW! The game intro claims you can be a neutral faction, but that is a lie. The game menu where you modify your character has the faction symbol as part of your uniform, which is just an emblem on your chest. No, that's wrong. It's actually your faction affiliation even though the UI indicates it's just cosmetic.

You ever play a Game and You just REALLY Wanted to Like it? This is one of those games for me. :( It's a Really Good Game, and an Awesome concept (Team Play); I know it's not Original, but I don't play Team Play games usually... even this one I'm play Single Player with AI Bots as my Crew. In any case, it's all well laid out, everyone has their job, including You as the Captain. (Note: There is also Multiplayer; where each Player takes on one of five roles (Captain, Sci Off., Wep Off., Eng. and Pilot). You survive as a Team or You Fail as a Team. I suppose, if you're the Friendly Type (I'm Not), this game could be a lot of fun with 5 Strangers; but with 5 Close Friends (or Family Members) this game would be Awesome. So... Why the NO Recommendation? Because of Game Breaking (???) Bugs? Features? Design Decisions?; I'm not sure... but I don't like them. Tutorial: Non-Existent. And for a game this Detailed and Complicated, you really would have expected a Step-By-Step Walk Through on how to do Each Job. They do have an Academy you can go to; Very Cool way of having a Tutorial. However... there's very little Hands-On (Mostly you speak with Teachers or Students and then READ What they Tell You.) And even with the Hands-On, you READ Do This or That; but they still don't tell HOW to do it. And unless you play the game first, what you are reading Makes No Sense. Simplest Things Made Difficult: Again, with a lack of any Explanation, you have to figure things that should have been handed to you; such as: A Need for Fuel. (I don't know what those Numbers mean, so why wait until I'm almost out to say; 'Oh, by the way, you'll need fuel in your Nuclear Powered Space Craft (Or whatever the Power Source is.) Or another fun one; Where's the Cargo Compartment? Not Literally... but how do you access it; again... took a while to stumble on it; and ran around with out shields Until I did. Or my personal Favorite; How do you get your Ship from Point A to Point B. Again... I did find the answer to most of these questions; though I'm still looking for some; but How to Move your Ship, really should be Lesson One (Hands-On) in a Tutorial. (Note: I'm Playing in VR, and there is Note in the game (In the Academy) stating the Pilot Lesson doesn't work in VR, but that sounds Like a Bug that you fix, not one you just tell people about. Navigating (See Edit Below): Now this is an issue that seems to be Restricted to VR; but a major Game Breaker. To Travel you go into the StarMap, select your destination (WayPoints to get there will place automatically), then Your ship will head there. I didn't have this issue in PanCake Mode, but in VR: A) When I closed the StarMap, it automatically Deselected my Destination. B) If I move my cursor OFF my Destination prior to closing the map, it's selects that location as a Secondary Destination. Thus... to Select a destination you have to place your cursor at the Destination, then Close the StarMap (and 'Assume' it worked). However... C) The Pilot will not line the ship up for Jumping, unless you are looking at the StarMap (which means You don't get to watch your ship Move or enter Warp. As well... if you're Piloting, the Enginer will not Engage Warp unless, once again, you are looking at the StarMap. Once you hear your Warp Engines Engage, you can now close the StarMap, but once at the next WayPoint, you will have to Open the map again, to continue moving forward. Processing (See Edit Below): To upgrade your ship you need these Blocks (or something). As you travel you pick up salvage; and your ship only has so much space to store the salvage. So you are going to want to Process the Salvage into these Blocks. To do so: A) You can only ATTEMPT after you have jumped at lease once. (Note: This includes reloading a Saved Game; you must Jump before Attempting to Process. and B) Apparently turning Salvage into something usable is not about skill, but luck. You get 3 Tries after each jump, I Failed over 18 Times. (That number comes from when I finally figured out what I was doing, since the Game literally explained Nothing about this. So it's actually over 18 because I only counted the last 18; and Note... I Suceeded Zero Times. Now as You and your crew complete (something, I'm not sure what specifically) You get Skill Points which can be placed. So I figured, maybe my Skill in Processing was just too low. However.. there is No Processing Skill to Improve. There is no Ship's Equipment to increase your chances of Success. There is just the Game deciding that I shall Fail Every Single Time I Try... with Zero Chances of increasing my Odds. Oh Yeah... That is So Much Fun!!! The Biggest Issue with this game is it's Lack of Information. Some things, I'm guessing, just don't work. But by the time you figure out HOW to play this game... and which items are Features vs Bugs, you'll be so Irritated, you just don't care. All you want to do is Write a Very Long Pissy Review, and Move on with Your Life. I don't regret buying this game, because the Devs may have Abandoned it... or may just be Completed; but I'm hoping one day to get a Message that this game has just been Updated, with a List of Bug Fixes and Feature Changes. And note: There are some (many) Good (Functional) Features about the game which I did not mention; but only because.... Who Cares about all the Good Stuff, if the Bad Stuff prevents you from Enjoying it. Oh... and a Final Note: As stated, I'm Playing VR... Perhaps some of this issue do not carry over to PanCake, as, (for instance) I did not have the issues stated about Traveling when I played PanCake; I could access the StarMap... Open and Close without Adding or Removing Nav Points, and Pilot Flew just fine when I did not have the Map Open. But for those with VR... this is the kind of game you Really want to be in VR For!!!! Edit - 12-2-2024: I still can't recommend this game because of everything else listed above; however, regarding the Processing; I did figure that out. (Which reinforces my issue with a Lack of Tutorial). In any case... what I did not realize is the Goal is to hit the Green Line in the Middle. You do not pass or fail based on RNG or something; you just have to Release the Button at the right time. Once I (Accidentally) figured this out, I actually got 3 out 4 Tries Sucessfully. But one additional thought; with all my Complaints I'm still trying to Play it; because pass the above... I really like this game; and I'm trying to live with the things I can't Fix or Figure Out. Edit - 12-3-2024: Prehaps I should have waited before giving this game a Bad Review. My Apologies to the Devs and anyone who may have read this prior to my Edits :( I will start by saying I "STILL" stick to my previous statements regarding this game; with the exception, of course, of these two Edits. Though, as I continue Playing, I may be forced to Add More Edits. In any case; I'm sure this is a Bug, and not a Feature; however Regarding Navigation this Function does work Semi-Correctly. I'll Try to Sum it Up: If You Select your destination, and Close the StarMap it will Deselect Your Destination (or Select a Secondary Destination, if you moved the Cursor); However... it seems the Pilot will focus on the what you Selected intially, and they WILL Fly to each Way Point without you having to have the StarMap Open. However, when you open the StarMap you will not your Destination is unselected (or a Secondary is Selected) If you close the StarMap Your Pilot will use these as their new orders. In Short... what ever the State of your StarMap at the moment you close (regardless of what may or may not occur (behind the Scene)) is the orders your pilot will follow. Now those two (Edited) Items where my biggest issues as they just made the Game Unbearable. So with those Issues Resolved (at least to My Satisfaction), I have to changed from Not Recommended to Recommended.
This is my favorite multiplayer game. As close as I've found to operating a "real" starship. The different roles have completely different playstyles, and it's a good idea to get acquainted with them all before trying for Captain. Engineer is great for fans of step-by-step puzzles while shouting "JUST GIVE ME ANOTHER SECOND CAPTAIN!", Science Officer is chill while also being an incredible asset, Pilot goes ZOOM in 0G, and Security... well, let's just say it's the most fun for pyromaniacs.
Kind of rough starting out, but once you have the hang of how the ship works, this is a really fun game to play with your friends! Highly recommend picking it up, its worth the 20 bucks!
Indie starfield but coop. Recommend it higher than starfield if you have friends.
This game can be a ton of fun as long as you have friends dedicated to learning their roles. Spent so many hours creating enemies all over the galaxy from trigger happy teammates it was great
Star Trek: Bridge Crew meets FTL Multiverse to produce a co-op space exploration simulator like no other. After a few initial hours of comedic incompetence, your crew will find their bearings and be able to live new lives among the stars. Explore planets, hunt bounties, or run cargo, the choice is yours. The RPG mechanics give a sense of growth to your journey while the drop-in/drop-out co-op means you're always able to join a new crew. It's feasible to finish the main story in just a few hours on your first playthough, but it's a very fun experience when you're with a good crew and you always have the sandbox galaxy to return to. Gather 4 of your friends to explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilizations.
I only got into the tutorial a bit and every section of "The Academy" was broken and the controls were not intuitive or responsive, at least for KB/M. Maybe in VR things are better but the fact that basic functions like the ability to back out of a section of tutorial after the text pops up saying you've passed, are broken make me very wary to put more time and effort into this or get my friends to invest this level of money into a really broken experience.
What do I know, I'm just some guy from the lower decks...
Game has become abandoned. Been over a year since an update or any post. Was fun when the devs actually worked on the game, but now there is no update and nothing to play for.
