Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Sep 7 → 0.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
This is an idle game that won’t interrupt your work, experiments, or paper writing.
It only takes up a tiny corner of your screen, quietly running in the background and keeping you company.
In the game, you play as a young lecturer at the start of your academic career. Beginning with a humble little lab, you will recruit students, conduct research projects, publish papers, purchase equipment, set lab rules, and gradually climb the academic ladder until you become a true academic heavyweight.
The journey may be painful, and it may be absurd, but at least—
you finally get to be the advisor.
Interview Students
Starting from scratch, you will personally interview master’s and PhD students, selecting the most suitable candidates to join your team.
Different students have different abilities, personalities, and growth potential. Some are naturally gifted, some are hardworking and reliable, and some look extremely promising—while simply waiting for the perfect chance to slack off.
As your academic rank rises, your lab will gradually expand, allowing you to recruit more students and build a larger research team.
Manage Your Research Team
Students will occasionally “slack off,” so you need to check in regularly, click to view their status, motivate them, boost their research abilities, and effectively reduce the number of times they secretly “take it easy.”
You can observe each student’s condition, ability growth, stress, and relationships, then train them, assign tasks, or let them continue experiencing the harsh reality of academia at the right moment.
If a student produces little to no results for a long time... you also have the authority to take decisive action—deny graduation and let them feel the full force of the “academic iron fist.”
Of course, once you are promoted to a higher academic rank, your management options will become even richer. The lab rules system allows you to adjust stipends, authorship rules, and graduation requirements, creating a research environment that is lenient, strict, or full of pressure.
Conduct Projects and Publish Papers
Research cannot rely on passion alone. You also need projects and results.
Lead your students through different types of research projects, accumulating innovation, workload, and writing quality. When the results are ready, remember to write the paper and submit it to a journal.
The higher the quality of your work, the greater the chance of being accepted by a high-impact journal. But submission is never entirely predictable—even if you do everything well, you still may not escape the fate assigned by the reviewers.
You will need to guide your students through different research stages, bouncing between revisions, rejections, and publications, eventually accumulating academic influence of your own.
Purchase and Upgrade Lab Equipment
Purchase and upgrade lab equipment to significantly improve your team’s research efficiency.
Different equipment affects research outputs such as innovation, workload, and writing quality. Based on the needs of your current projects, you can gradually add research instruments, daily-use facilities, and decorations, transforming your once modest lab into a high-end, intelligent, and perhaps slightly absurd modern research platform.
At the same time, do not forget to add some entertainment and daily-life facilities to relieve the students’ accumulated stress and prevent their depression index from skyrocketing.
Climb the Academic Ladder
As your influence grows, you will gradually be promoted through academic ranks.
Starting as a lecturer, you will rise to associate professor, professor, and even higher levels of academic leadership. There are 9 advisor ranks in total, and your lab size, student capacity, and available projects will all expand as you advance.
Becoming a professor is not the end. It is only the beginning of something bigger.
Apply for Honorary Titles
As you manage your lab, you can also apply for various honorary titles.
Whether you are a paper-production machine, a master of student cultivation, a conference expert, or, in some sense, a “graduation delay manufacturer,” you can unlock your own titles by meeting different conditions.
Become a more outstanding and more distinctive academic leader!
Set Lab Rules
As an advisor, you do not just manage projects. You also manage the system.
In the full version, you can adjust stipend levels, authorship rules, and graduation requirements. Will you offer generous support, or make students fend for themselves? Will graduation be lenient, or set to hell mode? Will office romance be allowed, or strictly forbidden?
Your lab, your rules.
Attend Academic Conferences
Bring your students to various academic conferences, improving research abilities through communication, presentations, and, of course, free food and drinks.
Different conferences may bring different growth opportunities, networking gains, and special rewards. Attending with a paper, bringing students along, or simply going to broaden your horizons can all become important steps in your lab’s development.
Trade with the Mysterious Wandering Merchant
A mysterious friend will occasionally visit your lab, bringing all kinds of curious goods.
He may sell research equipment, daily supplies, special projects, outsourcing opportunities, recipes, strange apps, and even things you are not entirely sure you should buy.
They may not all be reliable, but someone will always be tempted.
Joint Training and Student Exchange
After completing the required research projects, you will be able to unlock the joint training system.
Different advisors can exchange students, sending your students to other labs for further training or bringing students from other advisors into your own lab to continue their development.
The academic path is never a solo journey. Sometimes sending students away may lead to unexpected growth.
Recall Graduated Students
For some students, the story does not truly end after graduation.
In the full version, you can unlock the ability to recall graduated students, bringing former master’s students back to the lab so they can continue participating in research and extend their academic connection with you.
Graduation is not the end. It is merely another form of returning to work.
Play While Idling
Professor Simulator: Desktop Lab can be minimized to the bottom-right corner of your screen, taking up very little space.
It is perfect for quietly running while you work, study, write papers, run experiments, or slack off during meetings. You do not need to keep staring at it, but it will always be there with you.
When you look back, perhaps your students have already published a paper.
Or perhaps they have started slacking off again.

Sounds like my lab experience. It exceeds my expectation. I can work while letting it run which is cool. I love the minimize function so much.

相当痛苦的青椒模拟器
ironically similar to some people's experiences in academia~ very fun
Developed by HCL and published by HCL, Professor Simulator: Desktop Lab offers a refreshing twist on the idle simulation genre by placing players in charge of an academic research laboratory rather than a factory, city, or business. Instead of emphasizing constant interaction, the game is designed to function as a desktop companion that quietly progresses while players focus on other activities. This concept immediately gives it a distinctive identity, making it feel less like a traditional management title and more like a relaxing side experience inspired by university life. Its blend of humor, casual progression, and academic themes creates a surprisingly engaging package that stands apart from more conventional simulation games. The gameplay centers on developing a successful laboratory from modest beginnings into a respected research institution. Players recruit graduate students, assign research projects, supervise publications, upgrade laboratory equipment, and steadily improve their academic reputation through the accumulation of Impact Factor. Student management adds personality to the experience, as each researcher possesses different traits and behaviors that influence productivity. Some students prove hardworking and dependable, while others may struggle with motivation or require extra attention before reaching their potential. Balancing these personalities alongside research priorities creates an enjoyable management loop that remains approachable without becoming overly demanding. As progress continues, the laboratory expands with additional features that add depth to the simulation. Promotions unlock larger facilities and greater opportunities, while honorary titles reward dedicated play and specialized achievements. The introduction of a traveling merchant provides occasional surprises by offering useful items, software, recipes, and other resources that can enhance laboratory performance. Systems such as student exchanges, project outsourcing, alumni recruitment, and advanced laboratory upgrades gradually broaden the scope of management, ensuring that players consistently have new objectives to pursue. These additions prevent the idle mechanics from becoming stale while maintaining the game's relaxed pacing. The game's strongest quality is its unique theme. Academic research is rarely explored in simulation games, and Professor Simulator: Desktop Lab embraces the setting with an entertaining mix of satire and appreciation. Publishing papers, mentoring graduate students, improving laboratory efficiency, and climbing the academic ladder are all presented with a lighthearted tone that pokes fun at the realities of university life without becoming overly serious. Players familiar with higher education will likely recognize many of the references, while newcomers can still enjoy the charming presentation and accessible gameplay. The pixel-art visuals further reinforce the cozy atmosphere, with lively laboratory animations and colorful characters bringing the workplace to life despite the game's intentionally compact desktop format. Its design philosophy also deserves praise. Rather than demanding uninterrupted attention, the game encourages short interactions throughout the day, making it well suited for multitasking. Players can check on research progress, assign new tasks, purchase upgrades, and then return to their primary activities while the laboratory continues operating in the background. This makes the experience especially appealing for those who enjoy idle progression without sacrificing productivity elsewhere. The clean interface and intuitive systems ensure that managing the laboratory remains simple even as more mechanics become available. Despite its many strengths, the game is intentionally limited in complexity. Those expecting an in-depth academic management simulator with detailed budgeting, grant applications, university politics, or highly strategic decision-making may find the mechanics relatively straightforward. Much of the progression revolves around gradual upgrades and incremental improvements rather than intricate systems requiring constant optimization. Fortunately, this simplicity aligns with the game's purpose as a relaxing desktop companion rather than a hardcore simulation, making its design choices feel deliberate instead of incomplete. Professor Simulator: Desktop Lab succeeds because it fully commits to its unique concept. It transforms the routines of academic life into an accessible idle management experience filled with personality, steady progression, and an appealing sense of humor. Its charming presentation, enjoyable laboratory management systems, and unconventional setting help it stand out in a crowded simulation market. While players seeking an extremely detailed management simulator may desire greater complexity, those looking for a laid-back desktop companion with a fresh premise will find plenty to appreciate. It is an inventive and entertaining take on idle simulation that demonstrates how even the everyday world of academic research can become an engaging gaming experience. Rating: 8/10
Really cute game! It is quite relatable for anyone in academia. The gameplay is fun and I like how you can do other things while letting your lab run on its own. A few things that I wish could be better: 1, My laptop gets quite warm when running the game, so for some devices it might be difficult to actually work while letting the game run. 2, I wish there is a way to easily see the full list of the papers published, as well as a way to see all the students' stats instead of going through each student one by one.
