The least steps challenge can suck my entire hog
Portal is a simple but surprisingly enjoyable puzzle game. Even though I'm generally not a fan of puzzle-focused games, Portal kept me engaged from beginning to end because it understands exactly what it wants to be without trying to overcomplicate its mechanics. The puzzles are straightforward, easy to understand and gradually become more interesting without ever feeling frustrating or exhausting. The Portal Gun is a simple concept, but the game constantly finds new ways to build clever situations around it, keeping the gameplay fresh throughout its relatively short campaign. One of Portal's biggest strengths is its length. The game never drags on longer than necessary, the maps remain compact, and the pacing stays consistent from start to finish. I actually think making the game significantly longer would have made the core mechanics repetitive, so ending when it does was the right decision. Portal isn't a game packed with content, but it doesn't need to be. It's a fun, well-paced experience that delivers exactly what it promises and is easy to recommend to anyone looking for a clever puzzle game.
