Pizza Hero is a unique shoot 'em up roguelike. The toppings you select affect your abilities. For example, pepperoni throws grenades while blue cheese creates a pungent perimeter.
TLDR: A Vampire Survivors knockoff that copies the formula but forgot the fun. Clunky skills, terrible audio, and poor graphics/UI, make this feel like a 48-hour game jam project.

PROS:
➕Decent (Vampire) Survivors-like mechanics
NEUTRALS:
🔹Like the pizza theme, but I’d like to see more pizza-themed levels instead of Survivors levels
CONS:
➖Feels cheap/clunky ➖Graphic settings don’t save - game is forced into full screen every time upon opening ➖Poor sound effects ➖Severe lack of sustain turns runs into more of a bullet hell instead of a Survivor-like
Content (Game world/Narrative) – [3/10]
The game world has a few different areas, like a graveyard and a forest. The levels seem infinite, similar to Vampire Survivors. Nothing too special here, but I do appreciate more attention on the levels than say Brotato. No narrative.
Gameplay (Mechanics/Difficulty) – [3/10]
The mechanics here are pretty much a Survivor’s-like game that borrows heavily from Vampire Survivors (VS), with some slight differences. The biggest being obviously the entire game is pizza themed. Each topping does their own attack, but otherwise, it’s the same as VS - just with black olives instead of bibles. There is a pet system. You can find and unlock pets which help you pick up EXP. There’s also a dodge too. You can jet forward a little bit to better reposition. Nothing much else seems to be different though. I’ll say that the mechanics do feel much cheaper and clunkier here. Often upgrades are vague like “Increases damage by a bit” What’s a bit? I have no idea. But all the skills seem to lack the satisfying clearing of VS, making even the max level upgrades appear puny and dull. The difficulty is higher here, mostly because of a noticeable lack of sustain. The only way to heal HP is through the random heart-carrying enemies that seem to pop on screen every few minutes. This effectively turns the game into more of a bullet hell than Survivor-like.
Graphics (Quality/Technical) – [1/10]
Pretty bad, even when compared to VS. This is PS1-era fidelity. Animations are very simple. There is nothing about this game that looks good. UI is not great either. There are very few graphical options. Despite that, the game kept resetting my chosen options each time I started it up. I’ve had multiple times during gameplay in the middle of a run where the game would minimize and show its weird little launcher. It makes me think this is some sort of malicious program or miner, but I have no proof, it could just simply be an awful technical side. 1440p @ 240hz | installed on SSD
Audio – [1/10]
Simple and generic. Music sounds very simple, like 8-bit. Also, the sound effects sound like they were recorded off of Discord using a mic. It’s bad.
Replay Factor (Longevity) – [6/10]
Decent, there’s the roguelite progression that is the same that VS has. If you can get past terrible everything else, there’s some good replay value here.
Final Verdict – [2/10]
Pizza Hero (PH) comes across initially as a Vampire Survivors-like game. It has most of the elements like the roguelite progression and borderline copyright infringement skills, but it’s lacking a major thing that VS has - defensive abilities, notably HP Regen. This small but simple change turns PH into more of a bullet hell than a true Survivor’s game. But PH digs the hole deeper than that. Between the clunky skills, terrible graphics/animations/UI, poor audio, and numerous technical issues, PH has a loot and feel of a game made during 48-hour game-a-thon event or a college capstone course. I understand that assessment can be a bit harsh, especially for an indie dev, so as someone who was given this game for free, would I have paid $2 for it? Probably not, no. I’d rather that money be put to Vampire Survivors and/or its DLC. So, I guess to be clear, I wouldn’t consider this game worth it in any world where Vampire Survivors already exists. I could understand if there was some passion behind this game, but there isn’t. It feels like abandonware that should be free.
Recommend? (Price) [Y/N]

No
This should really be free with an optional DLC for dev support. You can find my curator page here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Synik_GR

Honestly the game is pretty fun, it doesn't deliver hours upon hours of content but it does enough for a roguelike shoot'em up pizza game. It's just a silly game worth a few hours of your time if you want to play something really wild.
I got this game when it was free so thank you for the freebie! Honestly I had a lot more fun than I thought I would. This is a really great game to chill to when you're bored! 9/10
Pizza Hero is a wonderfully fun little romp! WELL worth the money and time spent! A SOLID, SOLID 16+ hours enjoyed! Thank You! 🍕
Like Vampire Survivors, but with pizza. I was originally interested in this but after playing it for a while, the whole experience just feels lackluster and tiresome. The story is mediocre and if anything, unnecessary and its just there to explain why the pizza can fly around. Area maps and music are generic and there isn't much to write home about. The pets, while nice, don't contribute more than just picking up experience drops. The gameplay while average at best, just keeps giving me more reasons to be annoyed at what I am getting out of this. Notably, the lack of manual targeting is a major issue for when you need to target bosses and important targets, even with weapons that look like you can aim them like the bell pepper. It works for Vampire Survivors since most of the weapons have enough damage or consistency to handle weak enemies, as well as better overall experience gain to make up for the weapons' shortcomings, but all the weapons here are either slow or very inconsistent. Most of the time I found it easier to just max out dash damage since that does a better job than the main weapons. Sure there's recipes that boost your power when you get the right ingredients and seasonings, but the bonuses pale in comparison to VS's evolved weapons. There's also the fact that in order to unlock more weapons to use when starting a run, you have to max them out in a run first and if I'm being honest, some of them just underperform. The worst part about it is that runs only last ten minutes before you're allowed to get in the exit portal and finish the stage, but you barely have enough time nor experience drops to max out two weapons, let alone three. You can stay around longer if you want, but the EXP slows to a crawl and there's no reason to stick around once the portal shows up. To make things even more annoying, trying to gain money to purchase universal upgrades is a complete slog. You barely get anything on a regular run and I had to resort to endless to make decent money. To add insult in injury, while regular runs are only ten minutes, the game expects you to last around 30 for endless. In short, despite the nice idea and cheap price, this just feels like a cash grab that feels both short and takes forever for things to happen. Its fine for what it is, but I'd rather use my money for real pizza.
Been revisiting games in my library and this one is still fun! I barely scratched the surface even after all the achievements popped that i earned before they were implemented. This is one of the less time intensive survivors or bullet heaven type games. And its nonsensical you are a pizza and you and your animal friend are blasting monster simple fun stupid game.
Fun Vampire Survivors clone
免費的雞蛋先給好評。 後面作業感超重,又肝又沒變化。 成就要花大量時間去完成(遊戲場數、擊殺怪物)。
Finishing the game takes around 2 hours. Completing all the achievements takes 70+ hours. That should paint a picture for the grind. About to leave a negative review but the doggo is there on the completionist banner/ thumbnail. With a pizza in his mouth. Looking so proud. It's worth it.
The only problem for me is you cannot change target manually. Really annoying made me stop playing it. when multiple enemies get closer you can see target change erratically automatically. When more important target or boss appear, cannot hit them unless you get really close. However, pizza related recipe/topping concept, pets collections, mobs/maps variety, is really interesting. Just the automatic target really annoying. Just that and I hate it. So bad.
