Do not read the Steam description. Do not look up a playthrough. Do not read any reviews that spoil the plot. Just go install it—it’s completely free, takes ten minutes, and runs on literally any graphics card built after 2010. You drop onto a bright, tropical, cel-shaded island in first-person. Everyone is happily dancing in a circle to an insanely catchy, joyful steel-drum/marimba banger of a soundtrack. You walk around, look at the cute villagers grooving on the beach, check out the scenery, and explore. Then you climb up to the top of the island's volcano... and you figure out what the game actually wants you to do. What happens next is a absolute masterclass in dark comedy, environmental storytelling, and visual irony. The way the music seamlessly shifts while absolute, unmitigated chaos unfolds across the entire island is nothing short of art. It is the video game equivalent of a perfect Pixar short film written by a villain. The only flaw is that it’s over in fifteen minutes and you can never experience the blind, bewildered joy of your first playthrough ever again. Downloaded a free game about a tropical island, vibed to steel drums for 3 minutes, jumped into a volcano, watched the world burn, and realized the title of the game is a metaphor.
