After a few terrible updates, I decided to give the game another chance. But once I logged in, I realized it had completely wiped my save files. Checking the Community Hub, I found out the developer did this on purpose, and all the parts I collected along with the rest of my progress are just gone. All for the sake of 'balance' in a single-player game, lol. I truly envy anyone who never bought this game.
Interesting concept, cool presentation and good gunplay but... The A.i is braindead, so seemingly dead in fact that I don't believe it actually exists. The level design is mostly inspired in style & design but it's boring to replay and mostly irritating to navigate for the first time. This is compounded when the enemies are basically hit-scan have no other mode other than charge right at you even with their guns and a lot of the time their placements seem like they weren't even thought out properly. The gameplay becomes repetitive very quickly despite it being such a short experience because you eventually realise that using only like a couple weapons is actually viable as all the others just don't perform once the enemies get armour and turrets. Which makes the whole money and buying of equipment feel pointless. Why would I want to use a gun which is just going to make my mission miserable? Why would I want to buy any of the other weapons at all? This is like 80% of the weapons, useless, unless you want a painful experience. The guns are weird with recoil that sends bullets in every direction other than the one your aiming at. The damage is inconsistent with me shooting a guy with no helmet in the head with a LMG but he survives or I spray at a guy also with no armour at point blank range but just gets back up, but when I shoot a guy in full armour it takes just a little spurt and he's gone. Stealth is pointless as are melee weapons. I tried, but because of the way the enemies are placed and the way the A.I doesn't work it always ends up being upended and unsatisfying. One level is so open and full of enemies that it is literally impossible to stealth any of it. Turrets shoot through objects and walls sometimes. You die in seconds but don't regain your healing items after a game over so if you run out you need to spend your money on new ones by returning to your apartment, walking to the laptop, pressing f on the laptop, clicking the shop, clicking the sub menu on the shop, buying the items, going back, clicking the map, navigating the map and accepting the mission again, walking to the door, pressing f on the door, pressing f on the van door and then your finally back in. It slows everything down so much, It's something which seemed cool to begin with but ends up just being clunky and irritating. The slowmo when you kill a target has you needlessly losing health every time or it can get you killed because it goes into a bullet time kill cam and locks you into place, but this only affects you and not the A.I. So they can just shoot you and run at you whilst you just stand there like a knob. It's very short but I actually died because of this once through no fault of my own other than I guess not healing before I killed the them. It makes no sense. Max Payne had this down 25 years ago along with many other games since, what gives? Early Access or not, do not tease a next level and then hit us with a "That's all for now folks" it felt insulting and thoughtless as it compounded all the issues I already had with it. The money and guns feeling pointless, the bad ai, the level design and the question I kept asking of most of the mechanics, including the supposed new crafting one coming out today, what is even the point?
Scratches some sort of itch that I didn't know I had. Great indie game with fun levels and gunplay. Plug and play sort of game. Real easy.
You bought this game because some tubers shilled it. Case in point, this guy as well. Let's just quickly go over the pros. Yes, it looks like and play like you see in videos. Gun play is somewhat satisfying. The design is lazy but fitting, it's enough immersion to not care about the low poly counts. So I don't disagree with the indie-esk style. Now why this game is not worth it and a huge letdown on potential. At the current state of the game, after getting through all the Early Access missions. There is almost no point in replaying. Yes I am aware the levels have "remix", which changes the enemies spawn and random objectives. But it doesn't make a difference when you replay a level because approaching the "compound" is more or less a singular funnel. You will encounter enemies relatively the same way you play it last. There's no such things as enemies placement in such a way that it stops you from going that route and having to approach another way. I'm going to be honest here, when I first saw this game. I thought when the tubers said the level are randomized. I SERIOUSLY thought that it would have some kind of procedurally generated level to "mix" it up. And I seriously don't get it. Why wouldn't a game like this have something like that? The graphics are low poly enough for it to have procedurally generation maps. The simple gameplay loops. It begs this game to have it. The more I think about it. The more annoyed I gets. I guess my simple EXPECTATIONS for this game initially when I saw it, was just this; A get in, get out. Loot, shoot, do objective and extract game. That if I have 20 minutes to burn. I just jump on have a little fun and rinse repeat. With so many extraction looter shooters these days that eats so much of your time. I have always thought of having a quick bite size version of that in a game like this. If you have read this review this long, great your attention span is still intact, and trust me I wanted this game to be good. It got good designs and decent gameplay loop and premise are all there. IT JUST NEED TO MAKE THE REPLAYABILITY PART SOLID! Devs I'm telling you. Just make it a game, where I pop on. I use my looted gear. Load a map. It procedurally generate a multi level environments. Enemies based on map location. Randomized objectives. Shoot, loot, obj. Extract. If you tried this much more, you will essentially made a classic. Also, people that said this game has rouge-like element, should be shamed because calling this game rouge-like is such a stretch. There is zero risk, other than "losing money" when dying. Lastly, there was a demo for this game 2 years ago and fast forward to now where I bought the "release", it's literally just 2 more maps and 2 more weapons. I'm sorry but if I had known this was the case, I wouldn't even support it.
PIGFACE with its flaws is a really enjoyable *unfinished* game for it being an early access title. But as they say, "There is beauty in imperfections." Before diving in it's worth noting that it was inspired by Condemned: Criminal Origins. There a are a few issues that clicks with you the moment you start playing which may or may not be fixed in the future. For instance the sponginess of the enemies and how no difference there is between each weapons. headshotting with a pistol and a sniper rifle can be done from the same distance and bullet counts. That being said, the gun attachment is a cool feature but if you were to put camos and colors on it would be cooler. That way the reason for more missions would rise and the game could free itself from repetitiveness. Character customization or should I say "outfits" is basically nonsense for the sole reason that you can't see the difference between each clothes rather than your hands. If there was a health bar then it'd be interesting to have different healing items. The area in each mission can be more open and tricky if the purpose of the protagonist is to be a contract killer. As I mentioed the cheesiness of death animations, the AI is no exception. At first I thought it's because of the suppressor I had on but I tried a shot without it and the enemies didn't react to the sound at all. they only reacted to bodies. The phone can be effective instead of using it for the sole purpose of objectives. The crafting is a great mechanism which has doubled the fun. [apparently it was added later in the updates.] The hub apartment between each mission is OK but it could be better if somehow you could see the result of your actions on newspapers [which are on the wall] or News. Overall I had fun with it. however the only reason I'm not refunding it is to support the developer, because $6.59 is insane considering it had a price raise recently. Anyway, I hope the game recieves further updates and won't be abandoned in the end.
Very fun i like throwing bottles at the trains in the apartment would be cool if you could also smoke in there and flick the cigarette butts at stuff
I really like and recommend this game, but the most recent update hasn't been the greatest. The new 'Urban Plaza' level is genuinely awful. It's at complete odds with the gameplay and plays completely different to any level prior, seemingly placing enemies with one-shot snipers at every corner, whom of which spot and raise the alarm within seconds of starting the level. This removes most of the strategy and planning and makes it a free for all. The level also tanks my performance as well making an already unfairly difficult level even worse. I hope this can be addressed and this isn't going to be the direction the game is going, because I mostly really enjoyed it up until this recent update.
I think this is a pretty underwhelming and generally OK game and the fact that it has overwhelmingly positive reviews for a game that can be beat in 2 hours is shocking. I played the demo a while back and basically had the same thoughts. But because I've been dying for another imsim to play, I looked at the reviews and figured what the hell.. it was on sale too. Well, I gave it a chance, beat it in two hours and it's the same demo experience I played a year ago. And it's definitely not an "immersive sim". I would call it an arcade shooter with elements of stealth. But not an immersive sim. There's barely any weapons, there's very little variation in AI and enemies, there's no cool tools, every mission is basically the same thing : Kill some targets, oh and optional - kill everyone. The lo-fi aesthetic is basic af. I honestly wish I could turn the VHS effect off but there's not really any graphics controls. The one thing that's good about it is it can be challenging. But other than that, it's not like there's a multitude of different ways one can complete the mission. There's very little immersion as well. Even when you strike your melee against a wall or object, there isn't a sound. Same with kicking things. To be totally frank, I think it's a basic ♥♥♥♥♥ normie core game that's dressed up as something more cool and edgy. The concept is alright, it's sort of a hotline miami thing. But the gameplay itself and the depth of the story is pretty much lacking in all aspects.
