This game's concept is truly good; using tools to find evidence, attack the ghost with your weapon so that it does not interrupt you, finding totems and finally, facing the ghost itself. As someone who's been waiting for this game's release, I must admit I am disappointed. This game does have potential to become a really good one, but so far, it's still disappointing. Pros: + Ghost hunting game, with a few unique elements to it. + 'Jump-Scares' that will possibly catch you off guard. + There are classes with unique abilities, however you will have to level up to unlock their potential. + Maps that are not in many games (I personally have not seen them in any ghost hunting related game) + You have a cute doggo that you can actually pet by pressing F, IF it's not running away from you. Cons: - There are 3 slots available (1-3) where the 2nd slot is for your weapon, you can grab up to 2 items but they will be in 1 slot (1st) and you will either have to use your mouse wheel or press 1 again to switch through the items. - Game feels as if it's running at barely 30-60 FPS at all times. - The ghost will say different things than what's written in the subtitles (top middle of the screen.) - When you encounter the ghost, for about 1-1,5 seconds it will feel as if you're on 1FPS. - The flashlights are definitely not the best part of this game, they are weird and feel clumpy. - When you load into the game, for a split second you might get jump-scared by your own character in the right side of your monitor. - Has possibly the worst UI I've ever seen in a game. - If you're playing with friends, after their death you can not move in the direction they died. For example, if your teammate died right in front of a door, for the rest of the game you won't be able to walk through there, and their flashlight will still be on. - My teammate noticed the graphics 'clipping' when he turned his mouse left and right. - It crashes when your friend invites you (at least to me, happened 2-3 times in a row), and in general crashes are quite frequent. The game's still in Early Access and just released a few hours ago, but I feel like most of the problems should have been fixed since beta, and the UI could look a lot better. Unless the above issues are fixed, I would say keep your money for something else.

This game is amazing, even during the closed BETA. Though often compared to Phasmophobia, Phantom Hysteria is more of a 1st person investigative Ghost Busters-like game. Each Phantom has a distinctly individual personality, Power, and hunting pattern. From Molly who crawls along the ground and attacks with a powerful water based AOE, to Morigan who will teleport the player to a different area on the map and will perform teleportation attacks between each playing investigator, to Lucas that will shoot the investigators with a Chicago Typewriter cone based attack. Along with the distinctive individual Phantom personalities, several gadgets and weapons are available to purchase with earn-able, in-game currency. The EMFG is reminiscent of the Proton Packs from Ghost busters as well as a Salt-round shotgun, to the infamous Holy Soaker! Gadgets include, throw-able holy water grenades and EMF mines to stun and damage phantoms and of course the adorable and ineffable Kiwi! The game is a high adrenaline and fast-paced haunting adventure in various location maps including "The Graveyard"and the mysterious "The Jones' House". Each map is chock full of secrets, surprises and scares! The development team has been hard at work from day one in order to bring one of the most immersive Ghost hunting and elimination game to date! Each level map has been well thought out with immersive lighting effects and sound effects. Each character and phantom has their own voice, masterfully and comically done with passion and care in order to bring the player a fully fleshed out experience. If you are a fan of hunting games, or 1st person shooters with equivocal tongue-in-cheek humor, this is a must try game! THANKS MARTYN!
I've played over 70 hours of the game so far, and I LOVE this game, Hours go fast and you don't feel like you are playing for that long. THIS IS NOT A PHASMO CLONE SO DO NOT EXPECT PHASMO TYPE GAME PLAY. This game is fast paced, you shoot the entities as part of the 'untethering' phase, you never know where the entity is coming from and the investigation phase is also fast paced. Right now there are several levels of game play, Novice, where you get a taste of the game but it is slower, not as hard hitting and you can take safety in the equipment room, Normal, where they will come and slap you about the place should they wish, hit you normally and can be beaten quite fairly, Expert where they hit a bit harder, are a bit harder to fight and figure out and Hysteria where they can absolutely murder you. The more people in your team, the more scaling there is, this means that the entity is a little harder. Game play wise this is fast paced on going and you can't stand still. You have to keep moving as the entity will find you and will proceed to hurt you. Right now, this is early access. IT WILL CHANGE. I still 100% recommend you give it a go as it is fun, fast paced ghost shoot-em up with investigation phase. From my personal experience the Devs are interactive, they are supportive of those playing the game, receptive to suggestions and any bugs found. They have been wonderful to me, as a content creator for them they watch my game play and anything they see that isn't right they are on it fast and fixing it as they can. Big patches are coming in and I cant wait. This game has so much in it for a game in the works for a year. *4 fully formed playable characters with funny quips and interactions with their surroundings, *4 immersive maps, though personally I dislike the sanatorium as it feels like I'm in treacle and it feels too big for a single player. *3 fully formed entities with backgrounds and their own personalities and powers. *5 weapons that are all different yet fun like a salt shotgun that causes push back, a holy soaker that literally is a super soaker that you shoot holy water at them, and the EMFG rifle that is reminiscent of the gun from ghost busters. *There are a lot of references to films and games like Ghost Busters, many Easter eggs throughout the maps like one to Kiwi the adorable Mascot of the game, and even a hilarious Easter egg of a dev! Please take negative reviews with a pinch of salt especially those who have played the game less than an hour. The lobby situation too is still brand new, as in literally one day old, there wont be many open lobbies as you think, I recommend joining in communities via twitch as this will be a sure fire way to get in on lobbies or play with friends or solo. (edited to take out not and fix a few spelling mistakes)
this game has a learning curve, yes. but I m enjoying this game more than other ghost hunting games. I love how the phantoms have there own personalities, and how everything has lore. I also like how its broken up into phases. the game feels well balanced. yes you can pet the dog. no I don't think that is the best feature. whats the best feature it being multiplayer and being able to play with friends. is there some bugs in it yeah I am sure there is. Its a new game its going to have some issues. For a brand new indie team, this game is well balanced and has little bugs. I would definitely recommend this to friends.
Love it combat with ghost hunting has brought the ghost hunting genre into a new age. I don't just drop all my tools in one room and walk off. I find games like that boring and unimaginative this has action in it so I have to keep moving and the untethering phase allows me to brace for the fight that follows. Also, the community that surrounds this game is amazing the devs will listen and take suggestions from its community to help try to make the game better.
So I played a few games (died most of the time) and I'm really suprised! This game is a nice change in the ghost hunting genre. I had a great time! Would recommend it to the people that like ghost hunting games but also love some action segments.
Played for the first time the other night and went through four or so matches. We have put a lot of hours into Phasmaphobia and this is definitely in that game style, but even with some of the rough edges of a brand new game, we found a lot to love about this experience and what set it apart. The pacing in this game is significantly better. I think Phas does a good job of building some tension for the actual haunt events, and I like the atmosphere of some of the levels and how that plays in. But the first five minutes or so of Phasmaphobia are painfully slow, asking questions in the spirit box or trying to find the cold room. There is some time gating to it that makes that even more frustrating. Not an issue really in Phantom Hysteria, where the greater number of clues that will need to be found per ghost means you can get right into it. There is no need to time gate things. This makes you feel like you are constantly moving towards your goal and time doesn't feel wasted. Everyone has a chance to be successful in helping too, where in Phas you can feel useless if you didn't happen to grab one of the few items actually needed to solve what the spirit is. The use of the spirit hunting items is also a lot more straightforward, The only complaint I have so far really aside from a few expected bugs is the gun used to try and force the spirit away during the investigation, or defeat it during the last stage. It is missing something and I will honestly say I struggle to describe how to fix it. There's no obvious "tell" when you hit the spirit, and that frustration is made worse when you all are trying to hit it and you can lose sight of the spirit in the action. The glow/splatter of the impact just turns it into a bit of a single bright blob and a few times I realized when the spirit was near a wall that I was shooting the wall just to the left of it but all the others on the team shooting the spirit made it hard to see. Again, maybe that's on purpose and meant to add some difficulty or if not I don't really have the solution. Some feedback indicating you are hitting it would be good (and if it's there and I just haven't noticed it then that may be on me). Small complaint overall. I appreciate what the game has going for it now and like the twist on it the developers took. Looking forward to more additions! Oh yeah, whoever made the graphics for the tiny face on the huge pumpkin in the cemetery level is pretty great.
Already completely dead and seems to be abandoned. Very cool
As someone who normally doesn’t like ghost hunter games, this game is amazing! The developers are approachable and diligent in fixing reported bug and glitches. The gameplay is enthralling, the player models have depth and character, and the phantoms are absolutely beautiful and to a degree terrifying. Each phantom has a unique set of abilities and attack patterns. Yeah, matchmaking is slow right now but that’s understandable as the game just released, but playing with friends or joining the PH community gives you ample opportunity to play with others, or if all else fails solo play is both challenging and rewarding. All in all a great game that will get even better over time.
I am absolutely obsessed with this game! This is my most played game by far even though it just came out in October of this year. I've played 270 hours of Phantom Hysteria to date, while I've played 191 hours of my second most played game which is 7 Days to Die (which I've had for years). I've actually played it for over 24 hours straight on a couple occasions. Many compare it to Phasmophobia, but to me the only common ground they share is that you hunt ghosts/phantoms and use some of the same equipment. That's where the similarities stop to me. Phantom Hysteria is more fast paced than Phas, and you actually get to defend yourself and then banish the phantom!!! It's not a game where if the ghost gets to you you're instantly dead, which I love. I'm not a fan of the one hit kills, especially when I can't defend myself. So much love and attention goes into absolutely everything. Every playable character, phantom, and location has lore which to me adds to the immersion. Plus there are easter eggs galore. Each location has them, including the HQ. I've spent hours with friends easter egg hunting because it's so much fun. The phantoms are unpredictable, you can't find one thing that trips them up and repeatedly do it to avoid them. Each phantom also has unique abilities and behaviors like teleporting players to separate them from the group or to simply trip you up (Morrigan), crawling on the ground and a water attack that sucks you in and does damage (Molly), and shooting players (Lucas). And future phantoms will have their own as well. Accessibility wise, while there are some issues, this game is one of the most accessible games I've ever played that aren't specifically made for blind people. There are outlines around gadgets and equipment, so if you drop something you can tell easier where it ended up without it blending in or being too small to locate, and also around the computers at the HQ to make them easier to spot. When you are actually hitting the phantom there is an audio cue so you don't have to wonder if you are hitting them or not. The thermometer also beeps when you get freezing temperatures, which is great if you can't read the numbers on it. The sound design itself is also great, not just for people that are blind or visually impaired, but also for people that are hearing impaired from what I've heard from friends. It is easy to tell where the phantom is coming from because the sound is so immersive and well done. You can adjust the gamma, which may not seem like much, but if you can't see well in low light environments (like me) it really comes in handy. You only face one phantom at a time as well, rather than with most shooter type games where your fighting many players or characters all at once. I never thought I'd play any type of FPS or shooter in general, because of my vision, but only facing one phantom at a time is one of the things that drew me in. And there are captions for what the phantoms and playable characters are saying. As I mentioned, there are some issues. Some people from what I've heard get motion sickness from the head bob, which can't be turned off, and there are a lot of really bright and sometimes flashing lights. The font is also small, I have to use the Windows magnifier when I want to read the information on the computers in the HQ to select my loadout, Arcana cards, gadgets, etc.,, but this doesn't work for me when it comes to reading mine or the phantoms health because the game is fast paced and doesn't allow time to alt+tab to the magnifier, zoom in, alt+tab back to the game, read the number, alt+tab to the magnifier, zoom back out, and alt+tab back into the game. I have to try and go by the length of the health bar as it gets shorter the less health I or the phantom has. This is also hard at times though, because sometimes the color of the health bar blends in with the environment and I have to look toward a light or a lighter colored spot in order to have enough contrast. I also can't read the timer that show up after you use an ability. I can see where it is, and therefore can tell when it disappears (meaning my ability can be used again) but have no idea how long I still have to wait. The devs truly absolutely care about us players when it comes to general gameplay feedback and accessibility as well. They want the game to be not only enjoyable, but also accessible, to as many people as possible. There are some bugs, but in my opinion every game, big or small, has some bugs, but the Phantom Hysteria devs are always hard at work fixing them. I HIGHLY recommend it. I can't recommend the game enough. I know it is only going to keep getting better and better from here, which is SO EXCITING considering how amazing it already is!!
