About
As a captain in the Exiled Empire’s Vanguard Fleet, you’re tasked with breaking the defenses of entrenched rival powers in order to pave the way for the full invasion fleet and bring about the Emperor’s return.
Every object is governed by orbital mechanics, from moons to ships to projectiles and scrap. You’ll learn to master the physics of space in the most approachable orbital mechanics game around.
Outfit your ship with lasers, coilguns, particle beams and point defense systems inspired by real world weapons concepts. Craft new strategies with over 50 unique ship upgrade options.
Use space and physics to your advantage by making use of radiation, magnetic fields, atmospheric drag, and debris for defense or offense.
Balance your ship's fission reactor’s control rods, coolant and radiator panels to remove waste heat and optimize your ship’s systems.
Manipulate infrared heat signatures using deep sensor mechanics to track targets, get firing solutions and evade enemy targeting.
Navigate the turbulent waters of the Exiled Empire's war of reconquest in a dynamic campaign that poses new challenges, adventures and decisions with every playthrough. Choose your path through the warzone wisely to secure vital upgrades and resources for your strike-group.

Dev announced in his discord that he's abandoning the game. Didn't even bother to say it here to the people who paid money for it.
I bought and played this game early, and even went so far as to report any bugs I found in the dev's discord. On March 3rd, they sent this message in announcements "Hey folks! As some of you know, I've been solo-developing Periapsis for almost 3 years now. I'm stepping back to explore some new but related ideas and recharge creatively. I've been working on a small side-project that I think you'll find interesting. I'll share more soon. I'm really grateful for all the support this community has shown!" Since then, the developer has both left this game without new content and refused to maintain or fix any bugs that are reported, nor have they spoken to anyone in the discord, or anywhere else. There are up to four weapon groups in this game you can sort your weapons into, but its too bad you can't play any of the larger ships because larger ships have too many hardpoints which causes it to loop out of your screen, rendering you unable to set weapons that extend out of the screen to any weapon group. This game is not what is advertised, it has multiple game breaking bugs, and a janky freeplay mode at best, with a barebones campaign that only just throws more enemies at you, which do not know how to navigate without sometimes slamming into planets or moons, leaving the optimal strategy to just turn the reactor off, and let the AI kill themselves before going in to mop up what's left. I want to like this game, but I can't. Do not buy.

I was looking forward to this, but it appears to be quite dead. No update since november. No word from the dev. Nothing on his social media linked on the store page. No news. Not even discussions in the forums - so nobody even cares. Very sad.
There are only a handful of hard sci-fi combat games on steam, this, Nebulous and Children of a Dead Earth. This game does go for smaller scale battles on a 2D gravity well plane, but the reactor management, weapons, and maneuvering retains that awesome KSP feel-- but with guns! If you like old school realistic rockets, this is for you!
Great for those who want to fly an evil Rocinante.
Brutally difficult. Impossible, even. At least, until you actually figure out how to play the game - at which point it becomes quite fun and entirely possible.
The creator did not disclose that the development is on pause. Looks like this is abandonware. Very disappointing as the game had a lot of potential. Don't bother buying it unless the developer returns to it at some point in the future.
Awesome game if you enjoy orbital mechanics. Still a long way to go before it is a finished game but excited to watch it evolve.
