Descend into the Pale Abyss, a cursed chasm where the forgotten truths of a dying world fester in its depths. Inspired by games such as King’s Field and Shadow Tower, Pale Abyss is a first-person action RPG about exploration and adventure. Currently it's just a demo with about 1 h of playtime.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.
About
Our precious sunlight… taken by that… thing. The Pale Abyss, they call it. A wound in the earth, an accursed maw that swallows all it touches. And from its depths spills that pale, unholy light. Lay your eyes upon it… Our warm and golden sunlight has been dragged down into that darkness, twisted and defiled. Mocking us with what was taken!
Master the tactile combat of old school melee and magic when battling strange creatures and traversing the depths. If you want to survive the Pale Abyss, you'll have to fight with every scrap you can find. Long lost weapons, spells and consumables will aid you on your way.
In the Pale Abyss the otherworldly beings seem to clash and influence whatever mortal beings dare to descend its vast depths. Your actions in battle and during exploration shape your mind and body as you drift towards either the Abyssal or the Occult. Many secrets and powers are connected to the otherworldly, but when trifling with the eldritch, you might discover unheard of dangers as well...
Harken back to a simpler time in gaming where the few polygons we had jittered and shifted away as we were in awe of the first instances of 3D on our CRT screens. Pale Abyss combines its more modern gameplay with this nostalgic aesthetic to bring a whole new experience in a familiar form.
Choose from 6 different starter classes with unique origins and let your choice of character stats and Level Ups empower you and the way you fight!
Communicate with other delvers with Chatter Pebbles. Leave behind cryptic messages for other players to find and feel the faint echoes of other players' journeys as you traverse through the Pale Abyss.
Pale Abyss is a student project by a team of three people made within six months. As such, this game is currently only a short Demo with about 1 hour of playtime, but we will continue providing updates in the future.

The games is good but simple and I look forward to see how it developes into a full game
A compelling demo. While there's other King's Field inspired demos/games I think are overall more fleshed out (like Queen's Domain and Hark the Ghoul), I also think this could end up being as good if not better than them. The main issue with this demo compared to those others is it's just so short, with only the barest hint of what the full game will be like in terms of combat mechanics. What's here is serviceable and I have nothing against it, but there just isn't enough in this demo to really do with it. I think the main mechanic of either cleansing save points or letting them get more cursed is inspired though, even if the demo doesn't really do anything much with it, so I'm looking forward to puzzles and even combat mechanics that may involve it. The visuals are my favorite thing about the demo. They capture a charming, surreal retro look with expanded colors and field of view in a very pleasing way. I think the art direction is the strongest point of the demo, and I look forward to the full game's environments. Keep up the good work and take as much time as you need, Permanent Crab Studios. I'll be buying this when it releases. I'm looking forward to how you flesh it out!

Very solid, I really enjoyed playing this prototype and hope you're developing the entire game now.
Short, free, decently fun King's field/morrowind inspired gem. No real difficulty, depth, story, etc but the aesthetic is perfecto.

This demo is really cool, and I'm looking forward to the full release. I've played a good number of games like this and generally melee is pretty solid, with magic being a nice add-on that you can choose to specialize in. In this game, so far, it's my opinion that magic is super necessary. Melee is pretty challenging, but every enemy has a fairly obvious magic weakness. With how slow melee feels and how dense the enemy placements are, I would recommend playing with the magic more than anything else. Maybe the full release could make block timing a little more forgiving to make melee a little less high risk. Regardless, the game is sick as it currently stands. Killer soundtrack, too.
It's a solid proof of concept. The visuals are great and the occult/abyssal mechanic is interesting if a little barebones right now. There's tons of potential here and I look forward to the full release
I liked it, really curious about what will be next. At this point, technically, I am just minding why doing this balance of red/blue power so slow to turn as we would like (spamming spells for a moment until reaching big power of one side). Why not letting a way to set it when out of fight ? Courage for development 💪
wow
Wow, how cool, King's Field in an atmosphere like Made in Abyss, I simply want more! The aesthetics and attention to music that emphasizes the changes in environment, wow... I'll eagerly await the full game. Also because with attack patterns on our part and on the part of the enemies, and a little more mobility, the game could improve even more.
