Pajama Sam's Sock Works

The first several levels serve as a tutorial. The game becomes more difficult as it goes.

I accidentally put over 14 hours in this game, it's the perfect game for disassociating. Just sort the socks. There's even a cheat to give you all 200 something levels!

While the Pajama Sam adventure games are easy to finish in a short time, the same does not count for Pajama Sam's Sock Works. The game consists of 100 levels that each generate a puzzle out of a pool of 250 options. The puzzles start off very easy, but the difficulty increases gradually, but not in a linear way. The puzzles take place in the sock-o-matic machine that Sam uses in his imagination to sort out his socks faster. Each sock has a certain color and needs to be sorted to the basket of the corresponding color. The player solves the puzzles by switching the directions of conveyor belts and other parts of the machine, so that the sock ends up in the right basket and not a basket of the wrong color. Later in the game these puzzles actually become difficult for an adult even, let alone for little children. The game also has a level creator, which makes it far ahead of its time. With the level creator you can place your conveyor belts, socks and baskets wherever you want, with plenty of space for creativity. All in all, this game is the only Humongeous Entertainment arcade game that I really enjoyed and the only one that provides a challenge.

Story: Sam is given his laundry and told by his mother to go to bed. Sam dreams about socks and the most convoluted way to put them into a laundry basket. Game play: A random collection (yeah, I say random because the levels don't really ramp up in difficulty, but vary wildly and some even require no intervention from the player to complete) of levels that would probably entertain a child for a little while. It pales in comparison to other Pajama Sam games (the other minigame style ones are better than this one even). There is a custom level creator, but I doubt it would entice someone to buy the game for that feature. Length: Strongly depends on your age and how bored are you to play this over any other game you own. For reference, I finished the first 15 levels in about 10 minutes. Audio/Visuals: Sounds and music are fine, it is fitting for an edu-tainment game. The art style fits with Pajama Sam games, but nothing stellar or noteworthy. Thoughts: It is fine, but the weakest of the Pajama Sam games, but that isn't a strong point since the minigame ones are pretty lackluster. If you are buying this for a kid, it would be more enjoyable for them, but I would still only recommend buying Sock Works in one of the bundles as the main Pajama Sam games are much better. Even if you are buying a bundle, I would wait for a sale for the amount of fun you or your child might have with it.
