The problem isn’t difficulty, it’s readability. The camera is too zoomed in, so you can’t properly see or react to hazards. Combined with distant checkpoints, this turns the game into trial-and-error instead of skill. It feels unfair rather than challenging.
:D
"orz" is not to be confused with the Orz from Star Control 2 (*happy campers* are the best. It is *happy*). Instead this is an experimental (garbage) more art-than-game (garbage) endless runner/platformer. Now, every single game in this entire genre is trash, from Flappy Bird all the way to this pretentious monstrousity. What do you do in the game? You must move endlessly to the left (wow, not to the right, such incredible innovation), avoid spikes and hazards, and that's about it. Oh and you can look at the really badly done art about some girl in a hospital gown that the developer seems obsessed with. These guys sure do go out of their way for their imaginary girlfriends. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. Visually, this features mediocre hand drawn style "Baby's First Wacom Tablet" art instead of contemporary graphics. This obviously looks better than pixelcrap, but that's a really low bar to barely stumble over. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks worse than a professionally made game would look, and that's a major deterrent. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 15 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options.
