Its been an absolute joy building Orb of Creation. It embodies almost everything I love about video games: discovery, adventure, exploration... Its truly a blessing there is a medium in which I can express myself so well. If you are a fan of incremental games, give this a try. It won't disappoint.

Why the ♥♥♥♥ do you change up everything and delete the progress people made in the previous version?? I have to relearn everything bec I can't even remember where stuff used to be.
didnt really find any flow in it & was always confused
On its shiny and slightly reflective face, Orb of Creation is about making a number go up, with pleasing sound design and a grooving soundtrack. Eventually it becomes about making ALL of the numbers go up. But equally importantly, Orb of Creation is an unfolding game, where the player needs to keep digging a little deeper to find the next complication, whether that is a new resource, a new spell, or an entirely new school of magic. It's a game that wants to entice seemingly endless amount of new thematic (thaumetic?) discoveries. The orb is not without its flaws. The gameplay is mostly menu navigation, and these nested menus are quite dense. If you want to understand what is going on, this game is going to require you to read, then experiment. You can muddle your way through a lot of it by simply clicking what's lit up, but combining spells, artifacts, alchemy processes and more will drastically multiply your ability to progress. The robust tooltip and keywording system provides a lot of detail, and allows simple text have broad and complicated impacts. The tooltips can be a little overwhelming, taking up most of the screen. Effect notifications can be muted when you no longer need the reminder. The full release brought a designated end point that I found satisfying, and a new game plus mode that has kept my interest. A 'run' of Orb of Creation seems too long for a roguelike, but replaying it with new conditions and modifiers has provided both a fun challenge and a reason to re-use the knowledge from my first run. While this gives it much more replay value, I recommend this game based on its first run through, not as something to retry dozens of times.

Didn't like it at all. Not what I expected or it took too long to get there.
I can understand some of the pushback with the 1.0 release and bad reviews. There are areas that feel more constricted compared to the alpha. I played the alpha version a lot, but stopped for about a year waiting for the 1.0 release. I'll admit, things seemed to drag a bit in 1.0, and I stopped playing after a couple hours, disappointed. A week later, decided to give another shot and am now immersed once again. If this was the version used for alpha, I think the negative reviews would be a lot less. Recommended.
This game took up a lot of my life for a while. I liked it a lot. I never played before 1.0 so the progression change didn't affect how I feel. This game was a great time waster I had it running on my other monitor while working through other things/watching videos and it definitely generated some sweet dopamine juice. The NG+ part was great IMO, I feel like I could have kept going forever if I had more achievements to farm.
I have mixed feelings about this game, which I'll get to. But first a description of what this game is. It's an idle incremental game, in which you are almost never idle. But it doesn't do this in the standard non-idle incremental way of having short sections of gameplay surrounding by upgrades. The game is all upgrades and progress bars, but it uses these in every way concievable to make an experience that is unlike any other. And at it's heart, that experience is great. Now, my mixed feelings. I started playing in version 0.6, and it was a great game that turned sour after ten hours. I'm now playing version 1, and I'm nearly 15 hours in, and compared to 0.6 the game is slower and less directed. Sometimes being less directed is good - there are lots of options about what to focus on, and sometimes being less directed is bad - there isn't a clear way to progress. It also has the issues that for the first hour or so, there's very little choice, but past hour 10 the amount of choice is overwhelming, to the point that the choices begin to lose meaning. I still think it's a great game, I'm just enjoying the moment to moment less, and the hour to hour more.
Much preferred the early access version of the game. 1.0 feels overwhelming with mechanics just there to make you wait such as the garden, even though it's an active incremental game rather than an idle one.
