About
OpenFront is a massively multiplayer real-time strategy game where hundreds of real players battle simultaneously on a single shared world map. Build your economy, forge alliances, crush your enemies, and launch nuclear strikes — all in real time.
With over 1 million monthly active players on the web version, OpenFront comes to Steam with faster launches and better performance, Steam achievements, and exclusive cosmetics.

Every match starts the same way: you control a small patch of territory on a map shared by hundreds of other players. From there, it's up to you. Expand aggressively into undefended land. Pressure weaker neighbours. Accumulate gold, build your military, and push toward dominance — before someone else does the same to you.
OpenFront rewards smart play over raw aggression. Managing your economy is just as important as managing your army — overextend and you'll collapse, underinvest and you'll be steamrolled. The game layers genuine strategic depth onto controls anyone can learn in minutes:
Expand by directing your forces into unclaimed territory and weaker nations
Build ports, cities, and missile defences to strengthen your borders
Trade and negotiate — in-game ally requests let you broker truces with neighbours
Escalate from conventional warfare to nuclear strikes as the match reaches its endgame
Naval warfare adds a second front — control the seas to project power across the map
Multiple world maps each demand a different approach. Europe's choke points reward diplomacy and timing. Asia's open terrain favours rapid expansion. The global map brings full ocean control into play. Every map is a different puzzle.
Cosmetics in OpenFront are visible to every player in the match — your territory is your canvas. Equip territory patterns that change the look of every tile you control, from clean minimalist designs to full-scale meme skins. Fly one of hundreds of real-world flags. Personalise your profile with unlockable cosmetics earned through play or the in-game shop.
OpenFront will never be pay-to-win. Every cosmetic is visual only.
OpenFront has an active grassroots competitive community. Clan tags are more than cosmetic — in team modes, players carrying the same tag are automatically fielded together, turning organised clans into genuine competitive units. Clan wins, losses, and win rates are tracked globally and compared on leaderboards.
OpenFront Masters is the official competitive organisation, running monthly cash-prized tournaments with referees, anti-cheat rules, and a Liquipedia presence. With over 10,000 members in the OFM Discord and a dedicated spectator format built for streaming, competitive OpenFront is already an established scene, not an afterthought.
OpenFront started as an open-source project shaped entirely by player feedback, and that ethos carries into the Steam release. The public development roadmap is live on GitHub, updated regularly with what's being built and what's coming next. Bug reports, feature requests, and even code contributions from the community have directly shaped the game you're playing today.
Jump into the Discord, follow the roadmap, and help build what comes next.
OpenFront launches on Steam in Early Access with a fully playable, polished core game — the same experience that has driven 1 million monthly players on the web. Early Access funds continued development including:
Mobile app (iOS and Android)
Expanded clan system with native leaderboards
New cosmetics, territory skins, and subscriber perks
Additional maps and game modes
Performance and observability improvements
Steam Deck optimisation
The full roadmap is public. You can see exactly what's being worked on, vote on priorities, and track progress in real time.
OpenFront runs natively in the browser with no download required — the Steam version shares the same servers, the same players, and full cross-platform multiplayer. Start a match on Steam and play against someone on their phone. The community is one pool, wherever you play.

Reviews
Spent so many nights playing the web version of OpenFront, and now I guess I’m going to spend many more on Steam! On behalf of all Mac users, thank you for taking the time to optimize it for macOS. Really happy to finally see OpenFront on Steam!
the best ever!! I've been playing for two years now
Easy to learn - hard to master. It's an amazing short game you can play when you have to wait for your friends again! And yes it's still in early access, so I don't get it that people are not happy with the "final result" - Just wait and if you don't wanna pay the very fair 5 or 10€ then go in the browser and play it there, it's that easy!

Worth the support
I love this game. Been playing since it first got released and now its on Steam I find it is a lot smoother in gameplay and everything looks crisper. Best game you will get for this price.
Simppeli ja nopea strategiapeli, jota tulee paljon pelailtua taustalla (lähemmäs 500 ottelua). Ilmainen selaimessa, eikä Steamin julkaisu tuo mitään uutta (paitsi nimimerkin varmentaminen ja muutama profiiliefekti), joten tämän ostaminen ei ole mikään pakko. Pelissä ei itsessään vikaa, vaan tarjoaa hyvää viihdettä ajankuluksi.
Deceptively complex, no game is ever the same. One of the best RTS games I've played, probably one of the best strategy games ever. Requires crazy micro skills, long term planning is an important factor too.
Incredibly fun game. It is very simple yet very addicting, and I am so glad that the developers found the success they have.
I would describe the game like this: easy to pick up, but hard to master. It’s very engaging, despite its simplicity.
