This game is a cutie, needs some polish but it is funny, and very cute! I absolutely recommend it!
So, this game in all honesty probably wasn’t ready for a full release. But it’s super endearing and I had enough fun with it to come out of it with a positive review. Let’s get the negatives out of the way. The game feels like an early access game, even by 1.0 release. All characters have no idle animations besides Ollie himself, basically all maps have extremely easy methods of going out of bounds, some missions are extremely unclear and unintuitive, and there’s a general lack of polish. All this would normally make me give a game a negative review. …but I can’t? There’s something endearing about this game. It’s simplistic, arguably to a fault, but it’s comforting in its simplicity. Even with its lack of polish it’s rarely frustrating and generally just pleasant to stroll through, even while you have no idea what you’re doing. I’d say pick it up if that sounds appealing. On paper if I heard this I’d think the game probably isn’t for me, but alas I’ve been proven wrong. Maybe wait for a sale though? The game’s a tad pricey for its length and depth. But even then, it’s just a pleasant experience that I don’t regret purchasing. By the way, developer. PLEASE release the soundtrack somewhere. It’s really, REALLY good.
Una amiga me regaló este juego porque me define al 100% Espero que puedas añadir más cosas. Trucos, sobretodo grinds. Quizá un mapa más urbano y un skatepark.
Read the full review with accompanying screenshots here: http://www.playcritically.com/2024/12/15/ollie-oop-review/ Ollie-Oop is a fun idea for a videogame. A dog who becomes an unstoppable skateboarding prodigy in his dreams sounds like an incredible player character, able to perform any trick flawlessly, ride any rail endlessly, and charge through any obstacle like a cannonball. It’s let down by its own engine and the design of its activities. Ollie is a master skateboarder let loose in a dream world where a skateboard is more often a hindrance than a help. He cannot crash or fall, leaving him spinning like a top when he bails. There’s some enjoyment to be found in Ollie-Oop’s absurd premise, the sometimes surreal physics, and an occasional inspired mission. Most of my time playing is spent in frustration, struggling against its bugs and quirks. This dog shoots for the moon and gets lost along his way.
Cute game. I saw this advertised by the dev in a twitter ad. It does what it says on the tin. it's a cute dog on a skateboard. I wish there was a bit more mechanically. There is no way to choose what trick you perform it is just a random flip. The grinding is also very basic with no challenge you don't need to have speed or anything. The physics are pretty poor in comparison to every other skateboarding game I have played lmao. I wish there was a "neutral" review option. I picked this up during the winter sale for 40% off at like 8 bucks so I think that is reasonable. Nothing revolutionary, a cute little game to play for an hour or so. Loved the "Pupperwave" level and "BARK/BRAT" skateboard.
