No Parachute is like an updated version of Pilot Wings from the Super Nintendo (one of my favorite games of all time) if you were having a nightmare about it. Though, that might be me putting a lot of my personal frustrations with how bad I am at the game into my review. I also have this game on another platform, and have invested a few more hours into playing it than my time in the Steam version shows, so this is a proper review not a first impressions... I love the game, but I wont pretend I'm great at it. No Parachute is so wildly different than anything else out there, it's why I love indie games. It's a small game, with a lot of love and polish put into it, to make one mechanic really work, but not taking it a single step further than that mechanic can support. Everything here works perfectly. The controls are great, but the game moves at break neck speed. This is the free fall version of an anti precision platformer. One mistake and you have to start the level over. No Parachute has criminally few reviews, and deserves way more attention than it has gotten. It is in every way a hidden gem. I highly recomend this game to anyone looking for a small intense pick up and play game!
No parachute is a simple arcade style game, where you simply fall and dodge obstacles with a straight forward goal: survive! Starting off the gameplay is very simple, yet works so well just because of how each mechanic is used, movement is as basic as they come, but to get those 3 star ratings you have to mediate your speed to go just fast enough to make it, but you can also lose limbs by catching platforms if you fail to fully dodge them, this makes you less aerodynamic and also loses precious score you need for the 3 stars, just beating levels is pretty fun, but going for the extra challenge really makes this game extremely fun, constantly balancing everything to clear a level is just a great feeling, not only that but the game has several areas which throw in new obstacles and tries to switch things up making the game feel fresh and varied. The music has a nice sense of intensity to match each area, especially towards the later segments of the game the music really does add to the atmosphere of everything going on, along with the sound effects of limbs splattering and walls break making just adding extra polish ontop. Graphics are incredible for this game, upon looking at it in the store i thought it'd be too cluttered and hard to read but everything stands out and knows what to make pop so you can read ahead of time and dodge, the only area i had issues with this was the core where there seemed to be no cue to obstacles so it came down to trial and error. There is a few complaints i have, first off, on controller i was able to move and fall faster, but not retry, so i had to keep reaching over to my keyboard and hitting R, seems weird to have partial support, and the other complaint is that the game is criminally short, like its insanely good but i'd have loved the game to be about 3x as long. Overall a solid extremely well made polished game that's a lot of fun, but felt like it ended way too soon and left me wanting more of it.
