Literally MADE for Autumn people. For us target audience members who are shown themselves in Mae-- The brutally esoteric existential crises, the ache of seeing everyone & everything outgrow you, the longing for something REAL, and the hopeless nihilism that's barely kept quiet by dwindling nostalgia and brief distractions... This one's a whoopah!!
I would not be the same person I am today if I never played this game , I've never related to a character more than I've related to this quirk chungus girlfailure cat. The character dialogue and stories are rich and fleshed out , the underlying themes of absurdist philosophy and the harsh reality of the fleeting and everchanging nature of life are delivered in a cute, furry-adjacent, coming-of-age adventure game. NITW will always have a special place in my heart , It is truly a one-of-a-kind game that can only be fully appreciated by those who take the time to appreciate possum spring's and the characters charm.

I've had this game for years, and it's never truly left my mind. I suppose it's time I gave it a review. Night in the Woods is a very special game. Gameplay-wise it's nothing spectacular; it's a 2D platformer with branching dialogue. But the characters, writing, music, graphics... They're all just so good. I first played this game as a teenager, and I found myself liking the characters for their quirks. Now, having been an adult for years, I realise I actually relate to them quite a lot. It's quite rare to find a game that manages to portray so many of the darker parts of early adulthood in such a precise and meaningful way. I haven't played this game in a few years. I'm not sure when I will again. But to this day, the game still manifests itself in the way I act and think. And, despite the controversy this game is drenched in, and the unfortunate way the studio behind it fizzled out, I will always cherish this gem.
still one of my favorite story games. don't google anything, don't watch any playthroughs, just play it blind
at the end of everything, hold onto anything i've played through this game many times on many different platforms, and i can confidently say that this is probably the most impactful story i've ever personally experienced. give it a try, it might change your life too
R.I.P. Alec Holowka
This is the best game I've ever played. 10/10 story, 10/10 art, 10/10 character development, 10/10 everything. I've never related or connected to characters as much as in this game. GREGG RULZ OK

One of those pieces that sticks with you. I remember picking this up as a kid and getting this overwhelming feeling I was playing this game too early, that this would be a very special game for an older version of myself, so I put it down. Now that I am around the age Mae is (probably a little older) I can say wholeheartedly that I'm glad I waited. The game is beautiful, the music is catchy, the writing is both hilarious and deeply, deeply personal and introspective about the rapidly-ending world it inhabits and the drowning young adults that gasp for air under the burden of weight of a system that was not built to last. A sharply prescient game even a decade on, I can't help but see in it the struggles of the real people that poured their blood, sweat and tears into a piece of their soul. Short of ranting ad nauseum about the things every review will implore you make this game special, I just bid you buy and play this wonderful little piece of art, and forge your own connection to it's haunting, mundane, stagnant, ever-changing world. For me, I played this at exactly the right time in my life, and I will likely never stop thinking about it as a result. Hopefully it can do the same for you, too.
