Go watch MandaloreGaming's video on the game, then come back. This game works on Windows 11, and soft-locks have been patched. If your favorite media genre is Space Opera and you enjoy grindy looter shooters, then this is the game for you! No prior knowledge of 40K is required, but it helps.
I got this game on sale for six dollars. Honestly? It's pretty solid. Most of the negative reviews aren't wrong mind you, but at a sale price point, there's really no reason not to get it. It's a fun, fast paced romp through an underappreciated part of the 40k universe. At a cheaper price, there's really nothing to complain about, and all the flaws this game absolutely has becomes nothing more than inconveniences and nitpicks; but I definitely wouldn't recommend getting it at full price unless you REALLY want it.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Got it on sale for 7 bucks: It is Jank, incarnate. A bunch of borrowed random ideas stuffed into a wannabe boomer shooter. the enemies have to be highlighted because the game looks awful. The mechanics of "dodge chance" on you movement abilities does not feel like it works. You've got a shield, but it doesn't recharge. You do gain health but only by damaging enemies or using one of three medkits. Now where the jank shines: the RPG elements that upgrade certain abilities don't matter. upgrade your health by 10? move a little faster with a minute increase in dodge chance? None of it matters. The enemies with shields will always be capable of one-shotting you, unless you spam the execute key. The Rocket units are billions and they all shoot multiple times before reloading. It seemed there were other enemies, but since your spamming the dash key to not die and everything looks like a potato, even on epic, I coudn't tell. Aiming the weapon essentially means you can't move your mouse, because the sensitivity goes to -5. So you must resort to hipfiring and dashing and hoping that the bullets hit, because the bloom is pretty bad. you are literally spraying and dashing and everything that should be really fun, like that same gameplay is in Doom. However. it just doesn't work.
This is the bad side of mindless action shooting. Ever find yourself driving around, you go on mental autopilot and suddenly you're like "I don't remember the last couple turns I took". That's this game.
This game is very badly balanced, designed and buggy to boot. I gave it time to see if updates fixed it but nope still a mess like on release. giant laundry list of issues: 1) Weapon balance makes 0 sense. but that doesn't mater because.. 2) Weapons are useless. All you need is a high damage weapon then the time slowdown and autoaim powers can play the game for you. manually shooting at stuff is a mess when you die in a second if you stop moving like a monkey because most enemies are hitscan and you die the millisecond you stop jumping / dashing. 3) Have to execute enemies in melee nonstop to heal while waiting your broken powers to recharge. The animations glitch out more often than they work properly and half of them are over 3 seconds long. 4) Calling the story garbage is like pretending it has one. the story you get to play feels like an over-extended prologue for a real game story. 5) The graphics glitch out especially in the last few missions. 6) Everywhere looks the same. You'll spend the entire time in ugly tunnels, sometimes the game baits you with what looks like a giant city then nope back to the tunnels for you. 7) There is like 5 enemy types and outside the rocket mechs non of them qualify for more than fodders in other games. 8) Your dog is a timed summon that gives you wallhacks; it can jump around why does it need to constantly disappear? 9) The loot barely makes a difference and you will probably benefit more just selling it all to get upgraded biotechs anyway. aside from archeotech (damage boost per bullet) if you want to break the dps limits with a minigun. 10) The gundealer is completely useless, wasn't useful a single time in the entire campaign. 11) The bounties are just dumb random missions in areas you've already played, like running around to kill 10 witches in a 20 meter room while enemies indefinitely spawn. 12) Music bugs out all the time. Get this on sale only.
Don't recommend, even on sale. About the only thing they nailed is the setting. Everything else is at a level of jank I haven't seen since a late 90s shooter, i.e. enemies respawning right in front of you after killing them, paper thin plot, mediocre voice acting. Some of the weapons feel good, but it's like they wanted to turn 2016 Doom into a looter shooter and failed on all fronts.

I’ve recently played another game from this studio called Space Hulk: Deathwing, which is also an FPS set in Warhammer 40k universe. I wanted to see how much they improved since that game and unfortunately, not much. My first impressions with Hired Gun were so bad I’ve almost uninstalled it after first 30 minutes. The game suffers from constant stuttering, has awful mouse-acceleration that cannot be disabled without modifying game files and it seemingly has a ~20% chance to crash whenever a cutscene plays. I gave it another try after tweaking few files and the game got marginally better although still prone to crashing and stuttering. Its a shame because technical issues aside, it is an “okay” shooter (once you unlock various bionic abilities, grappling hook etc.) that has great art direction and decent soundtrack. During my playthrough I had few moments of fun but they were usually quickly tainted by stuttering, AI glitching out or the game simply crashed after a boss fight when cutscene was about to trigger. Because of this, I can’t recommend this game even when its on a sale, not in its current state.
Mediocre. Playable if you're a WH40k fan, but gets repetitive really, really fast. Go play Boltgun or Space Marine 2 instead.
This game has a lot of potential, but is jsut SO rough around hte edges. Everything feels wrong. The audio mixing, the animations, the cut scenes, the snapping to things, the level design is decently good, but everything else feels VERY half assed. It is a game that feels like it needs a day 1 patch or update or like 6 months more work on it. But it will never get it. It is such a shame. I HOPE that there is a possibility to give it a proper fan update mod eventually as it has a LOT going for it under the hood, but everything just feels unfinished so far.
