Between battles, take on quests that offer unique challenges and the chance to earn powerful rewards. These quests are more than just side activities, they can dramatically alter your strategy and give you the upper hand in the coming battles. Will you risk everything for early, game-changing rewards, or will you play it safe, even if it means securing those bonuses later?
Story
You play as a half-elf, half-human warrior serving the Human emperor who tasks you to investigate reports and rumors of dark forces near a human village. There you find that dark forces are rising in power and preparing to attack the village, meaning you have to prepare to defend it and uncover the truth behind these events. As the story progresses, you must make an unlikely alliance between humans, orcs, elves, and dwarves in a major effort to defeat the evil plaguing the land and bring an end to the madness.
Gameplay
The game has 8 chapters, and you unlock more of the 4 races as they progress, and at the start of all but the 1st chapter you get to select between 2 commanders, for every race, each of which provides you with a buff varying from combat buffs to economy and building buffs. The gameplay mainly consists of placing units on your section of the battlefield, from where units will automatically position themselves to attack nearby enemies. Depending on the placement and numbers of your units you can even surround the enemies, allowing you to attack them from every direction with both melee and ranged units. The way units are placed plays an important role, as you can block your own back-line units from moving forward and attacking the enemy if they are too clumped up. Battles are automatic, with you only being able to spectate them with a balance of power showing an indicator of which side is winning at the moment. There are over 40 units to be had in total, each having its own important role. Every unit can also be upgraded as you level up buildings. Buildings are constructed and upgraded with gold, and so are units. There is a limit to how many units you can have on the field, but that can be upgraded (to a set amount) by leveling up housing and the talent tree using skill points. Units also have levels, which grant bonuses to stats as they level up. Every chapter other than the 1st also has a legendary unit, only a single of which can be used per chapter. Gold is gained from battles and quests. Dwarves and Humans have the ability to gain more gold with either buildings, commander buffs, or the units themselves providing gold for every battle. The currency also has a mechanic, with which you gain an extra percentage of gold after every battle depending on how much gold you had before the battle. The more gold you have in your coffers, the more you gain after a battle. Like several other things, the interest rate can be buffed with Skill Points, which are obtained after Boss Battles. Skill points can be used to buff units, lower their chance of injury, (The unit is unusable for 2 turns) begin a chapter with upgraded buildings, more gold, a unit you can bring over from the previous chapter, … With every chapter you also have quest battles, some of which are faction-specific and usually provide easy gold, but the harder ones can also provide you with units, and the ability to recruit stronger units and skill points or bonus gold. Your approach to battles should be different depending on what race you use, as some, have strong mele units, others strong ranged units or a good balance of both, so spamming too much of one type of strong unit can still easily cause you to lose if they don’t have proper support. If you lose a battle, it’s game over and you have to restart the whole chapter from the map screen, which can be a bit annoying, as later chapters have 30 battles, meaning you have to go through all of them again which can be annoying for the each time you fight a strong boss, as you don’t know what you will face until you have either begun the battle or already lost to them and started again. The battles can be set to x2 speed.
AI Disclaimer from the Steam page:
The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this: Ai tools were used to generate or modify some of the in-game images, and UI elements such as icons, and character portraits. Background music was created with AI. We have utilized AI tools to improve, expand, and translate some of the text content(e.g., dialogues, descriptions, etc.). This allowed our team of 3 to focus on core game mechanics and design.
Visuals and Music
It’s not clear if it’s just some or all images, but the developers did use AI for their creation and editing, as well as for the UI, certain dialogue, and all of the Music. It’s up to you to decide if that bothers you or not.
Pros and cons;

Pros

Feels like some of the good old-style browser games,
Entertaining and enjoyable,
Requires some thinking on the combination of units to use,
Some good mechanics.

Cons

Can be frustrating needing to restart the whole chapter after a defeat.
Summoner enemies could use a rework as they can infinitely spam units, instead of only replacing enemies you killed.

Conclusion
The game isn’t that long (Should on average be 6-8 hours), but it’s fun to play especially if you enjoy some of the old browser games from the late 2000s. They did use AI for the game, and it’s up to you to decide if that bothers you, but overall the game was a really solid experience and is recommended (Tho it does depend on its price tag when it releases.)
Mythic Battlegrounds: Demonic Siege
Somewhat enjoyable if you like auto-battlers, up until the end. Chapter 8 is ridiculous and should be set to humans only because you have no chance with other races and need to be very lucky with the humans even. After you get past that, the newly introduced survival mode is even more ridiculous. Before chapter 8 the game has a nice difficulty progression where it's challenging but doable. The end sucked so bad that any enjoyment that I had prior to it was quickly forgotten. Advice for the dev, assume that the average player is not you (the developer of the game) and think about if what you're doing will be fun or tedious. Also I just noticed that at the time of this review "ALL" recent reviews are negative. That says a lot and I wish that I noticed that prior to buying this.
Very basic options that could have a lot of promise, but falls short in all aspects of the game.
The basic gameplay is quite good. It's a simple auto battler with a resourse managment aspect. Between every battle you have get to build building and train units as well as place these units in a formation to fight the next battle. You get interest on all the gold you don't spend, so you are incentiviced to make the minimal amout of units that will beat the next wave. There are different races and you there is a rougelite element that you level up between each chapter, allowing you to get stronger and stronger. Thats a fine gameplay. The problem, and the reason it gets a thumb down, is that you don't get to see what you are up against in the next battle. Meaning that you just have to guess what a good positioning will be, and this can screw you compleatly. If the enemy wave is mage heavy, you really want your tanks in front, but if it's rogue heavy, you want them in the back, protecting your archers. Each chapter is about 30 battles and if you lose one, you have to start the chapter over from then start. If you were able to see what you are up against before the battle, it would allow for much more strategy. that way I could make a useful, custom formation for every battle instead of a standard one that will be decent against anything and is used in every battle. It would allow me to build up if I'm facing units that I'm week against, and save money if vice versa. In summary. It's a strategy game that don't show you what you are up against, so you cant stratagize...
Autobattler makes sense if army composition is important and if there any some synergies etc to play with. This game doesn't have that, the amount of troops is very limited, there are absolutely no synergies whatsoever and most upgrades are just linear stat updates. After quick 5 chapters I've noticed that my strategy is mostly the same regardless of race or oponents. There is just nothing to this game really
It's fun. For less than the price of a garbage big mac meal, I received 10-15 hours of fun. As GSP once said "buy it with your money." Fair disclosure, it can't cure your virginity, but its cool killing dragons until it isnt. I'm looking forward to the expansions. I'll play thru it again soon.
Unfortunately not recommended. The game got off to a decent start - strong art style and presentation, acceptable generic story setup, learning the units, understanding the quests and skills and payoff of interest. But the mid and late game is a mess. There is ZERO actual battle strategy. The early game makes you think that there will have to be a balance with proper placement, but the late game is just a giant scrum of AOE and enemy HP balls. Other than putting a few melee in the back to absorb the assassin teleports, there's zero strategy other than 'do you have enough frontline and AOE'. There's basically no use for anything but the AOE damage unit and top level melee unit for each race, and just stacking them. You can't actually SEE what you're fighting before the battle starts, so you're stuck with just a generic formation (and it seems everything but the boss battles is RNG generated anyway because if you restart levels are different). Because there is no enemy preview and no battle strategy, there's no reason to do anything but it fast forward on battles the entire time. You can't affect the battle anyway. All 'strategy' is just minimizing the first few levels to get interest cascade stacking, then buying full stacks and hitting fast forward. Plus its SHORT, as in insanely, ridiculously short. I finished the campaign twice with 100% achievements in 12 hours - and most of the last 5 hours was messing with the poorly implemented survival mode. Survival mode is kind of a joke. Just random RNG fights until you happen to come across an RNG of a giant ball of purple wisps that wipes your entire force regardless of what you do. Overall, not recommended, sadly, it was a good start, but not worth it.
It doesn't feel finished - I have no influence on what happens during a fight, I can't change my setup once in the fight, even though there is a "Start Battle" button that is completely redundant. There are no active skills, no targeting specific units, no heroes on the battlefield (the only thing that the "hero choice" does is add a slight change like 10% more damage etc. It feels like the devs tried, and knew what they wanted, but fell through somewhere... I have nothing against AI generated content, but if the gameplay is lackluster then it doesn't really matter all that much...
