Full review HERE A little confusing from the outset, but once you get to grips with the game's various mechanics it becomes very fun, with the game's randomised nature providing a fair amount of replayability. Interesting gameplay with well-written and excellently-acted FMV sections. Aislinn De'ath is an absolute star and it's no surprise this studio keeps working with her.
I guess I'm stupid or something because I couldn't figure out what I'm supposed to do. This whole game has been a frustrating experience of me just roaming around clicking on things hoping something would happen. I like the developer's other games, but this one just went over my head. Ugh.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Murderous Muses is top quality FMV from the creators of Contradiction, Dr Dekker, Shapeshifting Detective and Dark Nights with Poe and Munro. If you enjoyed those previous games, then you may most definitely enjoy this one. Its a good game
tldr; I think this is a great game and you should play it if you like puzzle games and an interesting story that comes together slowly and is rewarding once you have it all pieced together. More time in, More pleasure/understanding out So to the review. lets talk about the 2 major critiques I see about the game, is basically it's confusing and the controls where not spelled out. They are not wrong, but in my opinion they didn't give it enough time to explain it all out (which it does). The game is random so sometimes you are hearing people talk about characters for the first time as if you know who they are. You just need to sit back and enjoy the ride through the well acted/voiced gameplay. There is a backroom area that sets scenes into group for each character to explain more about their motivations and why they might be the killer (all of them could be the murderer but only 1 is per game). So once you have a few videos unlocked (and it tells you which ones to unlock) you can play all of them in order and become less confused. The only bad thing I can say about the game is the inventory keybind is I and you can't change it, so every time you're in and out of your inventory you need to move your hands off the keys and back again, I have mentioned this and the dev did post a response about looking into it in the future, I assume for future games but hopefully a patch or something would be amazing but really not needed. You can place a painting and scroll wheel to the correct one, but you get points deducted if you put the wrong painting up first in the first half of the night section if you care about that type thing.
I'll be honest, my first few hours with Murderous Muses were a bit rough. The game throws you into the thick of it with minimal explanation, leaving you to figure out the mechanics and overall objective on your own. The lack of a clear tutorial and the initial steep learning curve were my main initial challenges. I found myself wandering around the gallery feeling lost and unsure of what to do next. Additionally, the reliance on trial-and-error to solve puzzles and progress through the game felt a bit tedious at times. But... I persevered and once I began to grasp the game's mechanics, I started to appreciate it. The puzzles are pretty simple (which I personally appreciate). The multiple playthroughs, thanks to the randomized killer feature, add a layer of replayability that keeps the game fresh and exciting. Overall, good game!
Murderous Muses is the first game from this developer I've played. I really do like the idea behind it and the gameplay is interesting to a point. The graphics are good, the acting, etc all pretty well done. Now the huge BUT: while i enjoyed playing the game the first time, and while i was excited for the case to be different each time (different murderer), even after playing 4 rounds i still don't fully understand why each of the characters would want to kill the painter, what the painter's intention was, what the videos with the little girl mean, how the characters are connected, etc. There is a huge amount of information in the videos but i still fail to see the story as a whole. I have spent alomst 7 hours being confused by the characters and the story of the painter and even though i have unlocked everything possible in the game i don't feel like it really mattered because everything is so complex and vague that i'm just left out. Even with the game being fun for the most part, for the above reasons i am not able to recommend it. There is no Aha moment, no pride in solving the murder if there is so much confusion and frustration left.
I love the cast of characters, the story, and the secrets. If you like mystery or the devs other games, you'll most likely like this if you can enjoy the game play parts. It's not that bad once you get use to it, but the tutorial is confusing and there was a system I didn't know about until I looked at the achievements. The gallery is just to big for the game play they're trying to do, it makes moving around to slow even with the fast travel. I really recommend using the note feature in steams overlay.
https://youtu.be/bmg1O08_cPs Well balanced cast of characters fill out the FMV segments quite well, yet the mechanics outside of the videos end up being fall less complete feeling.
