Montabi

A tactical roguelike where you have to manage multiple decks and think about how they interact with each other. It's quite fun, though also a bit time-consuming.

A really fun deck builder with a smart implementation of creature collecting. Really enjoyed my first run which took a couple hours and the challenge level felt great. Really well balanced with fun synergies between your trainer and creatures. This one is well worth the price of admission already - I really hope we see tonnes of new Montabi added in the coming years!

Montabi I found to be a fun game that can scratch that deck builder rogue like itch I have. I'll get the comparison out of the way, and say it does feel to me like slay the spire, and does scratch a similar itch. Aside from general deck building and level layout being comparable, this game brings it in a different direction and gives you a 3x3 grid to work with. On top of damage, shielding and activating other effects, you have to stay on your toes with your positioning and forcing the enemy into an certain positions to get the most out of your attacks and other cards, as well as to avoid attacks and effects. I'm also a big fan of creature catchers, so with the fun art style and city theming the game has, the whole premise enticed me from the get go. You may still run into the old "Uh oh, I didnt get a good start so I already feel like im struggling and wont win" on some runs, but aside from that, I have been very hooked.

Amazing game, it scratches my Pokemon and strategy itch. I had my eyes on this since the announcement during one of the game shows and I really don't regret buying it at launch. I really hope devs will update with more Montabi and characters, but even without that I'll enjoy playing it. Give it a chance!
