14 hours in and its very fun. Also i hate that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cat, i genuinely hate it and would kill it if i had the chance.
Plays very similarly to but better than most recent pokemon games, while also being a solid monster hunter experience for those of us that would like to actually keep and train the monsters. Fights consist of a combination of a rock-paper-scissors system of power-speed-technical moves, status effects and elemental strengths and weaknesses, to name the major concepts. The story is pretty vanilla but I don't find myself hating it lol, just skipping a lot of the dialogue as it's honestly excessive. Monster variety is pretty huge throughout the game with a total of 96 monsters according to the wiki. Overall, the game's had me hooked and pulled me away from Monster Hunter: Wilds.
I wanted to like this game, I really did, i like Monster Hunter and I like Pokemon like games, I bought it during winter sale. Before i say anything, If youre a fan of the Monhun games and a fan of pokemon like games, you might enjoy this game BUT, the game is honestly quite fun at first but it becomes a drag, to actually start using Monstie's you want/like or are fan favourites you have to drag yourself through the very bland story, im near the endpoint and i have yet to encounter Glavenus, Brachi and some other cool monsters i would actually want to use, so the actually cool monsters are locked until youre almost done with the game, at that point, why even bother? The main Monstie is supposed to be Rathalos, which really only becomes useable after the halfway point of the game. I hope MH:Stories 3 is gonna do things a bit different, give access to more monsties early, let people actually make their favourites part of their team instead of locking them behind the endgame/postgame.

As a huge fan of the main Monster Hunter games, the idea of befriending and fighting alongside the very monsters I had spent countless hours hunting was incredibly exciting. On top of that, the promise of a more cinematic and story-focused experience—something the mainline games have always been somewhat lacking in—made me go into this game with very high expectations. Unfortunately, while the monster collecting mechanics and overall gameplay are genuinely enjoyable, I ultimately came away disappointed by the story. After roughly 50 hours, I finished the main campaign and part of the High Rank content before deciding that this was a good place to stop. The story starts with a surprisingly serious premise and initially shows a lot of promise. However, it gradually becomes weighed down by low-quality anime-style humor, simplistic dialogue, and rather childish characters. Because of this, I don't think the narrative offers a particularly satisfying experience for teenage or adult players looking for a more mature story. The turn-based combat is fun and well-designed, but it does have one frustrating flaw. During battles, the game doesn't display information you've already learned about monsters. Since many monsters can switch between different attack types, you're expected to memorize their patterns yourself. While this certainly rewards experience, it can also make longer fights feel more tiring than they need to be. Another unfortunate downside is the online component. Due to the relatively small player base nowadays, online activity is practically nonexistent, which means some of the features and conveniences designed around multiplayer are no longer realistically accessible. Despite spending most of this review criticizing the game, if you asked me whether I actually enjoyed it, my answer would still be yes. There were definitely moments that made me cringe, but overall I walked away satisfied with the experience. My advice to anyone starting the game is simple: keep your expectations at a reasonable level and enjoy it for what it is. If you do that, I think you'll get the most out of what Monster Hunter Stories has to offer.
It's the second one. Honestly can't be understated how excited I was when it was first announced. Stories 2 managed to rise to the challenge of middling sales of the original and the Covid 19 pandemic, going on to have a full suite of free updates and enough units sold to solidify this spinoff's place in the franchise. A fantastic refinement upon the first game and well worth playing.
game's pretty good! I can't wait for stories 3 where we get to see navirou's tombstone wyverian yuri bottom text
A great sequel that improves on everything from the first one. Like the first game its still pokemon but without catching pokemon with pokeballs you invade monsters homes and kidnap their children and raise them as their own. amazing once again.
Navirou is the worst and most annoying character in all of fiction. The rest of the characters are bland. Combat's pretty good, just wish you could tell when an opponent is going to attack more than once. Don't play it for the story, only play it because you love monster hunter.
