Testimonials
"I couldn’t be prouder of what the whole Amber team has helped us build and bring to life through this video game. In my culture, a HERO was always needed… ****, it still is… Mexican Ninja has always been about that to me - the longing for that idea. Having profound admiration for Japanese culture, its history, and its roots, it naturally seemed like the perfect one to blend and contrast with my own. I hope players can join the fun, explore the world, and embrace all the quirks of this concept. I hope they get their asses kicked and stand up again, and again, and again—and through this dynamic, understand that Mexican Ninja is a vibe, a spirit, a way of being. I wish you a good journey in finding your inner donkey. Stay blazed"

I'm mixed on this one because the actual combat can actually be fun. My main issue is that visibility is a MASSIVE issue in this game and leads to several deaths that you cant even see where the dmg was coming from. To also add to this problem, sometimes the camera angles/zoom contributes to this problem even more. Add in several visual effects and very cluttered levels and it becomes extremely hard to see things sometimes. Very frustrating when it feels like deaths are coming outside of your control. My negative review is strictly for this visual problem so if you don't mind it, then the rest of the game is fun. For me, dying to something I can't see makes me not want to keep going.
I thought I'd really like this game and for the most part I do, but unfortunately it has one giant flaw. You can't remap controls. Having parry and heavy atttack bound to the same key is going to trip up a lot of people since it makes the game unnecessarily more frustrating to play. Also imagine making a game with a parry mechanic where it's kinda fully unnecessary to use it until the final boss where it is mandatory... Even if this wasn't the case, allowing people to choose their own inputs should be a standard in 2026.

So happy to see this live, been following this game for over a year! Mexican Ninja is a fun (and funny) game, with cool combat and visuals and totally over the top story and characters. If you like beat'em ups, certainly worth a shot!
what a beautiful time to be mexican
The game is great fun and fast paced. Very addicting
Remember your favorite standing coin operated arcade games? Ever wish they were more vibrant, filled with more difficult enemies, and a parry system that is as unforgiving as it is rewarding? Enter "Mexican Ninja," a beautifully crafted beat 'em up brawler, complete with stunning graphics, tricky and tactfully built environments, and a build system that will have you ready to step up to even the hardest of enemies. What are you waiting for amigo?? Your weapon is waiting...
A genuine treasure to play. The writing and combat are smart and slick, the pacing is breathless, and the "roguelite" elements are smartly implemented, though they do borrow heavily from other games. But who cares about that last part? Here, you're playing a ruthless Mexican ninja who can easily slaughter minions by the dozens while setting everyone on fire with a spicy fart. What more do you want from a beat 'em up?
Amazing art style! I'm going to play more and edit my review. It's really rare to see this kind of art style without AI, and it's not even in Early Access! and 30% launch discount!
TL;DR - Can't recommend: Very simplistic roguelike with a parry mechanic and offensive language that goes beyond vulgar. I quite like the gameplay loop, however, I feel it's very rough around the edges. Visually, it can be difficult to follow as a lot of the enemies look similar, leading to brawls where you can lose track of where you are. On the 2nd stage in particular, elements of the foreground block your line of sight. This leads to many instances where the precision requirement of parrying your opponents attacks can really turn into a guessing game. Speaking of parrying, there are some enemies, where parrying is just ineffective, with the counter attack missing entirely. I really like the music composition and the dynamic nature in which it changes when in and out of combat, and I felt that the meta progression opens up a lot of possibilities in combat, since you are able to acquire a slew of new moves to use in your newer runs. Sadly, when I was streaming the game, the vulgar language devolved into slurs, the fourth boss in particular uses a homophobic slur, which ruined the experience for me. I brought this to the attention of the developers, and it's absolutely their right to keep it in the game, but the conversation with one of them was unproductive, with their stance made clear on the use of slurs, which has left me feeling no alternative but to pull my support for the project. Vulgarity and humour is one thing, and I know you'll never please everyone, however, I feel in this instance, it just feels like it's there to tick the edge-lord box. Because of this, I won't be supporting the game moving forward, my commitment to keeping a safe space for my viewers far more important. If you are able to look past some of these issues, the game is okay, but personally, I feel there are much better alternatives that are more deserving of your support.
