About
Metamorph is a 3D story-driven dating sim with a horror theme, about growing up in a body that quickly becomes foreign to you. You play as a high-school girl who has begun to slowly, but steadily, turn into a twisted cockroach monster. With no signs of being able to reverse it, she sets out to score a date with her crush, all before her grotesque transformation is fully complete.
Navigate through social situations, interact with an unique cast of characters, and try your best to deal with your morphing body. As each day passes and your relationship with your crush unravels, your transformation spreads - The tendrils of your mind will begin playing tricks on you, making it harder and harder to conceal your condition.

Great hidden gem of a game that was well designed and has a great art style. I enjoyed the story and I feel like it would of been better to maybe extend the story and have all the side quests be available in one playthrough of the game but overall it was a good game https://youtu.be/ngltlAIMSkk
I was looking specifically for "horror" and "otome" tags and the moment I saw this game I knew that it's perfect for me - body horror, insects, Kafka and a general horror of being a woman in our reality, of course. And I have to admit, our crush is very cute, and I loved the way dialogues between MC and Him are written. That feeling of trying to explain to someone you like why you can't bring them home without explicitly stating the actual reason so they won't be grossed out... Yeah, know it too well. There were a lot of parts I could relate to, so even though the game is quite short, I don't think I'll forget about it any time soon. The best ending is also incredibly sweet, sometimes I too wish I could turn into a cockroach monster and go on a date with my refined handsome highschool crush...q_q
And the Seaman had me rolling, I Would never expect to SEA (haha get it) it in THIS game... 10\10 just for this, I can't believe someone still remember this game
would you still love me if i was a roach
Playthrough https://youtu.be/NTKJPaL5yDE Metamorph is a dating sim where you must convince a cute boy to like you before the week is up all the while slowly turning in to a giant cockroach. Pros + Great Aesthetic and Designs + The Body Horror Parts Are Appropriately Disturbing + Mini Games To Boost Romance Fun And Engaging + Multiple Routes Side Stories and Outcomes To Encourage Repeatability Cons - A little short, the week is over quickly. Perhaps two weeks would have been better for a slower more disturbing burn - Some side stories a little simple Overall a great little nightmare dating sim giving you a horror take on Otome games and the like. 7/10
I loved it!
Cute game where you play the role of a girl trying to connect & confess to her crush while her body is going through strange new changes. Very cool disturbing visuals & music. Game took me 3 hours to beat while taking my time, wouldn't mind revising it for the other endings eventually.
Metamorph is an unsettling and unusually intimate indie narrative that blends coming-of-age drama, psychological horror, and dating-sim conventions into a single, deliberately uncomfortable experience. Developed by Jackdaw Games and published by CULT Games, the title immediately establishes itself as something more personal than a typical horror game, using grotesque transformation not as a shock gimmick but as a lens through which to explore insecurity, isolation, and the anxiety of adolescence. You play as a teenage girl whose body is slowly mutating into something insect-like, and the game places as much emphasis on how this transformation feels internally as on how it looks externally. Rather than focusing on survival or combat, the experience is rooted in emotional tension, asking the player to live inside the protagonist’s discomfort as she struggles to maintain a sense of normalcy while her sense of self erodes. The narrative unfolds over a series of days, each one bringing the protagonist closer to an unavoidable physical and psychological breaking point. Structurally, the game borrows from dating sims and visual novels, presenting dialogue choices, daily interactions, and relationship management, but these systems are intentionally undermined by the creeping inevitability of change. As the transformation progresses, social encounters become more strained, inner monologues grow darker, and the pressure to achieve emotional closure intensifies. The player’s goal of pursuing a romantic connection is not framed as a traditional “win condition,” but rather as a fragile attempt to be seen and understood before it becomes impossible. This gives the story a persistent sense of urgency that feels more tragic than suspenseful, reinforcing the idea that some changes cannot be stopped, only confronted. Visually, Metamorph leans into stylized body horror without losing its emotional grounding. Character art shifts subtly as the game progresses, reflecting the protagonist’s physical and mental deterioration in ways that are disturbing but never gratuitous. The horror here is less about sudden shocks and more about slow realization, conveyed through distorted anatomy, uneasy expressions, and environments that feel increasingly alien despite remaining familiar. The art direction supports the narrative’s metaphorical core, making the transformation feel symbolic of alienation, shame, and the fear of being perceived as “other.” This restraint allows the game to remain impactful without overwhelming the player, ensuring that discomfort serves the story rather than eclipsing it. Sound design and music further strengthen the atmosphere, relying on subdued, often melancholic tracks that underscore moments of reflection and dread. Silence is used effectively, giving space for uncomfortable thoughts to linger, while ambient audio reinforces the protagonist’s isolation. The lack of heavy action or dramatic musical cues keeps the focus squarely on mood and internal conflict, which aligns with the game’s introspective nature. While the experience is relatively short, its pacing is carefully tuned so that each scene contributes meaningfully to the overall arc, avoiding filler while still allowing the emotional weight of events to settle. Despite its strong thematic execution, Metamorph is not a game designed to appeal to everyone. Its linear structure, limited mechanical depth, and reliance on metaphor over explicit explanation may frustrate players looking for traditional gameplay loops or clear narrative resolution. The story is deliberately narrow in scope, prioritizing emotional coherence over expansive world-building or branching outcomes. However, this focus is also the game’s greatest strength, as it allows the developers to deliver a tightly controlled experience that feels deliberate and sincere rather than diluted by unnecessary systems. Ultimately, Metamorph stands out on Steam as a bold, uncomfortable, and emotionally resonant indie title that uses horror aesthetics to explore deeply human fears. It is a story about transformation that refuses to offer easy answers, instead inviting players to sit with uncertainty, vulnerability, and loss of control. For those open to introspective narratives and unconventional uses of horror, it offers a memorable experience that lingers long after its brief runtime ends, proving that even small, focused games can leave a powerful emotional imprint when they commit fully to their themes.
*Peter Griffin voice* It insists upon itself. ...i have no other way to describe this. I dreaded that it'd turn out to be a lame, played out LGBT allegory instead of a horror, but it turned out to either be neither, or i'm not high enough to 'get it'... and my drug of choice works better with Baudelaire than surface-level understandings of Kafka.
