"MEATHOOK" is a simple first-person shooter-adventure leaning on survival-horror tropes that oozes charming B-movie-horror-atmosphere and is overall a great experience, if you don't mind the overall runtime of little over an hour. You are literally hooked on rails here and the overall experience feels like a weird light-gun-shooter of old and an point-and-click dungeon-crawler. Quite a wild mix. Fun and short like watching a schlocky-horror-flick at an independent cinema!
Never played Barbotine but I certainly will now. Yes the game is short, but if you like on rail shooters and you don't mind spending 5 bucks on an hour long experience, I certainly think it is worth the price tag. Great aesthetics, soundtrack, atmosphere, and pretty good shooting mechanics just makes me excited for whatever Alex has cooking up next. I think it is important to realize that if people want Indie developers to make more games and games that are longer, you gotta invest in the small projects first. I recommend it to anyone who likes rail shooters.

Very cool kinda on-rails shooter/dungeon crawler. A shame it's so short - I'd love to see more of this format!
House of the dead meets Blood/Dusk. Super fun but just not enough meat on this hook, I would love to have more levels!! The mechanic is super simple but fun enough that I could just keep playing. Hope to see more from this dev in the future
fun, addictive, and highly unique shooter with elements of souls-like difficulty spikes that force you to learn the various skills, and where best to apply them. Often that extends to having to carefully think about which ammo type to use against the enemies so you don't run out of ammo before the end of the level. It's definitely a game that rewards exploring the mechanics. Good amount of challenge. Really enjoyed the PS1 era graphics, gave this title a Half Life 1 vibe throughout for me! I'd love to see more of this peculiar world.
Absolutely loved playing this game, it's a short and sweet action-filled experience that really got the heart pumping. I played it on the steam deck and it works almost completely perfectly out the box, just needed to rebind the weapon selection to the d-pad. The vibes are immaculate and well worth the hour or so it took to complete!
I don't post a lot of reviews. The only ones i've posted were positives, but there's a start to everything. I played the demo of this game during a Steam Fest and was intrigued. It had a cool premise. But then the full game comes out for 7euros and what do we get ? -2 Levels -1 (very easy) boss And that's it. Nothing else. The demo is nearly 3/4 of the final game. Which you can 100% in under an hour. (The hardest achievement is DYING to the boss) So in short, absolutly NOT worth the price tag. You can get similar experiences that are longer and cheaper.
game doesnt even work cant boot it up the first language selection is just gibberish with no mouse cursor been trying for 15 minutes dont buy
👍👍
The game's cool, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by its length. I don't have anything against short games, but Meathook is only 10 lvls long, and the first couple of levels are tutorials. The majority of levels feel like a proof of concept. A really nice proof of a really awesome concept, but still. Like, on screenshots you can see chess-pieces cultists, but they appear only for one level and don't do anything particularly different. The office building location is there for just one arena!
