Reviews
I usually prefer to write reviews when I have more hours in a game, but if I am being honest with you, there is no way I can play this game for hours in one sitting as it currently stands (that being said, I did put some time into the demo). Does that mean it's a bad game? Absolutely not!! I think this game has lots of potential and will be rewarding to those who are patient. So why did I write this review? I think first impressions matter. It determines if someone will stick around or refund within the 2 hour window. I think this game has the danger of being coined "boring" if you aren't willing to stick around as the world unfolds. With time, I can see this being the ultimate cozy experience. In this game you are a cartographer. Your job is to essentially unlock the world through exploration. It is kinda cool seeing parts of the map fall into place like puzzle pieces as you journey along. You are tasked with rebuilding a village and helping out the locals with fetch quests. You explore the different biomes, slowly rebuilding them and completing light puzzles to retrieve lost items. In return you earn more clothes, accessories and hairstyles while advancing the story and unlocking more abilities (ie. a watering can to water plants). The character customization is cute but limitied to start with PLENTY of opportunity to acquire more items. The world is really adorable!! Very aesthetically reminiscent of Animal Crossing. You can talk with villagers and pet animals. The animals even follow you and help you complete certain quests. But that's it so far. 2 hours in and I am just walking around this big beautiful world completing very repetitive simple puzzles to retrieve items to give back to villagers to get cosmetics. There isn't much to interact with in the world which was a bit disappointing because it is thoughtfully decorated. I kind of felt like I was just aimlessly wandering at times trying to unlock the map in hopes of discovering more varied tasks. So why am I giving this a positive review? I think that if I give it time, more will open up and I am hoping I won't be as bored. From the video there seems to be decorating, town building, shops, fishing and bug catching. I think these things will help break up the monotony I am experiencing right now in the game because it feels a bit bare in terms of activities. I am currently playing it on the steam deck. I have tried adjusting the graphical settings, the frame rates and turned VSYNC on/off. It does have some stutter and I have encountered some 'Fatal Crashes' when trying to navigate the menu/note section to track my quests, with the game completely shutting down on its own. But otherwise, it does run and the controls appear smooth. A couple of suggestions: - The animals following you are cute but sometimes it is a bit much, esp when you accumulate a couple. I wish there was an option to abandon them. Also, the animals and villagers follow a bit too closely, sometimes obstructing the view or task at hand. - For the puzzles, it would be nice to be able to store items and take them with you through the maze, instead of having to walk back and forth picking up items, dropping them off, walking back to pick up more items etc. - Allow players to rotate items on the stands during the puzzle sequence instead of constantly having to pick them up and drop them off on the stand at different angles to successfully solve the puzzle. This was the most annoying part and made me not want to even complete puzzles (which is a pretty big aspect of the game). - I would like to see more variation in activities early on, to keep people interested and wanting more. Similarly, more puzzle variation would be appreciated. Feels a bit stale currently. Right now, the simple repetitive gameplay might be nice to unwind to before bed and I will continue to chip away at it during EA and update my review as needed. This game feels like you need to give it time to see it's true potential and I don't think you will be able to experience that in a 2 hour window. But it is charming and holds promise. As it so lovely states in the game intro... explore and enjoy the (EA) journey!
Runner Streams. I wanted to like this game, it seemed like something right up my alley, looked cozy and fun but it isn't optimized for keyboard and mouse users and forces you to play with a controller, something which I hate, I've been gaming on PC for years using keyboard and mouse, if I wannted to play with a controller I'd play on console. I couldn't even access the menu options with the keyboard as it would click out of the box and not register... If you don't mind using a controller to play then I'm sure the game is fun.
This game is pretty cute, I've spent 15 hours and feel ready to make some comments about various things. The decorating is fun, the characters are adorable and I like the general idea of it. I do feel like most of the game is looking for stuff and I feel like I have to ask because I can't find anything I'm looking for, it gets tiresome quickly. There should be more clues because wandering around looking for something when you don't have a clue where it is gets frustrating and boring pretty quickly. You don't get much coin from the NPCs for the bugs and fish you catch, either, so makes it not much worth it. Also, I'm understanding that at one point there was a 360 camera which the developer has stated cannot be brought back. I'm really not a fan at all of the camera limitations and feel like this game would be so much better if I could see my village from all angles. I'll be sure to get back to this game after some improvements.
Mazey Village has a pretty strong Animal Crossing vibe, but its mechanics are considerably different. There are no farming, gathering, or social layers; instead, the game focuses entirely on exploration and decorating. In Mazey Village, you step into the shoes of a young cartographer girl who arrives in a town recently destroyed by a powerful tornado that scattered everyone's prized belongings across the land. Your main goal is to recover these lost items and bring the community back to life. The gameplay loop has you wandering through charming forests, snowy paths, and forgotten ruins, all while completing these fetch quests and exploring the world one step at a time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3797578524 The items that you'll have to find are lost inside small mazes that can be accessed directly from the main map. An icon indicator at the entrance shows you exactly which quest items are hidden inside. These maze levels are pretty straightforward, featuring several simple puzzles to solve. You might need to place mirror cubes on platforms to redirect laser beams through them and activate gates, rotate stone statues to the correct position as indicated by the environment clues, or pull levers to shift pathways. Because the top-down perspective keeps the route ahead fairly obvious, these never feel like disorienting labyrinths. The puzzles themselves are quick and pleasant, and the levels take just a couple of minutes to clear. Inside each maze you can also find keys for treasure chests, cosmetic items, and other things. One slight drawback is the camera rotation. It is mostly locked to a fixed isometric perspective, and while you can nudge it a few degrees to the left or right, it snaps right back. Because you do not have a full 360-degree view, it is difficult to see behind buildings, trees, and tall terrain, which can also limit your creativity when placing decorations. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3797578317 The way the world builds itself under your feet as you explore feels pretty magical. As you walk, bits of the world drop down from the sky and lock into place, expanding your explored area. Paths leading to new regions are clearly indicated on the map, so there is no danger of getting lost. As the map pieces arrange themselves, you unlock useful shortcuts, making traversing each area a relaxing, stress-free activity. Sometimes the character collision can feel a bit sticky on smaller rocks and corner hitboxes, but the pause menu conveniently includes an unstuck button if you ever get locked in place. Back in town, every resident runs a charming shop packed with decorations that match their hobbies, from feline novelties at the cat lady’s shop to culinary gear at the chef’s stall. Finishing fetch quests expands their inventories, feeding right into the village customization loop. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3797578498 The freedom to customize your environment is another standout feature. You can decorate your house interior, as well as outdoor spaces, by editing ground tiles to design your ideal village layout. Beyond rebuilding, the game offers lovely little moments like fishing, catching adorable critters, and dressing up in cozy outfits. Petting an animal makes it follow you immediately, and it is really cute to have an entire line of them trailing behind you like ducklings. Talking to the villagers adds a heartwarming layer of storytelling that makes the world feel truly alive. Even in its current Early Access state, it is a beautifully relaxing experience that lets you unwind at your own pace while watching a forgotten town flourish once again. It’s a wonderful choice for anyone who loves wholesome, feel-good simulation and adventure games.
Honestly I had no clue what to expect from this game, however after playing and getting past the prologue which was a little slow, I found that I had a hard time putting it down. I will say that this is a nice and easy gem to get lost in for a few hours. I think I am about 5-6 hours into it, and I think I am a little over half way through the game. Everything you should know before playing https://youtu.be/GXxhYTj3ayw
I'm very happy that I had the opportunity to play the game for free and share the gameplay with my Community. I just played 4 hours for now, but those 4 hours were definetly a lot of fun. Everything is explained well in the Prologue and there were no open questions about how things work after the 'real' story started. I like the overall system of the Map Mechanis which reminded me of one of my childhood favorite boardgames "The Crazy Labyrinth" to build ways to get to where you want to be. Also overall I like the fact that you have those Mazes with nice little riddles to solve, which are quite fun! Especially since in every different Area they have different mechanics. I just can say it's a cozy little game to play now and then, lean back, grab your steam deck and just enjoy it. Help villagers to rebuild a town, go fishing, catch bugs and collect a WHOLE ARMY of Animals that run behind you :) One thing to add for things to do better (?): What was a little bit frustrating was the fact whenever you run into something, like a wall or an object, you got stucked for like a second, it's a little bit clunky and can get annoyed at some point;; And I had problems with two quests, when I talked to the questgiver with the Bats and the Bee's, I had the Bats and Bees already in my inventory and the Dialogue would just get stuck for A LONG time and I could not get out of it. Keep up the good work ^-^
If I had to describe this game in just four words, it would be: "Aaaah... it's so cute!" I've played for around an hour so far, and I keep finding myself amazed by the world. The puzzles are fun and engaging and are a nice break of the usual cozy gameplay, there's plenty to explore, and the characters you meet are full of personality. The developers also seem very active and genuinely involved with the community, which is always a huge plus. For me, this is an easy recommendation. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the game has to offer and what else the developers have in store!
