I genuinely did not want this game to end. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy completely blew me away. I went into it expecting a fun Marvel game to pass some time, and somehow ended up completely attached to the story, the characters, the world, and this version of the Guardians.
The character writing is phenomenal. The constant conversations and banter make the Guardians actually feel like a dysfunctional little family rather than characters who only exist when the story needs them. I found myself stopping to listen to conversations because I didn't want to miss anything. Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Drax, and Peter all have so much personality, and watching their relationships develop throughout the story was one of my favourite parts of the entire game.
And the gameplay was SO much fun. You're not just running from fight to fight. You're exploring, solving puzzles, finding hidden paths, hunting for outfits and collectibles, using the different Guardians' abilities, and constantly discovering little things tucked away in the environments. It made me want to look behind absolutely everything because I was convinced there was going to be a secret somewhere. 😂
The combat also gets better and better as you unlock abilities and learn how to command the whole team. By the end, you don't feel like you're controlling one character—you feel like you're actually leading the Guardians.
The environments are gorgeous, the soundtrack is fantastic, the humour genuinely made me laugh, and underneath all of that is a surprisingly emotional story with some incredibly heartfelt moments. There were times I was laughing at these characters and times I was completely invested in what they were going through.
As someone who already loves Marvel, this game gave me exactly what I wanted while also being so much better than I expected. It reminded me why I love these characters and this universe in the first place.
My biggest complaint is genuinely that IT ENDS. 😭
I kept thinking, "Surely there's more." I didn't want to leave the Milano. I didn't want the conversations to stop. I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters. Very few games make me feel that way when the credits roll.
If you like Marvel, story-driven games, exploration, puzzles, collectibles, great characters, ridiculous humour, and games that actually make you care about the people you're travelling with, play this game.
An absolute gem. I wish I could erase my memory of it just so I could experience it for the first time again.
10/10. Would absolutely flark my way across the galaxy again. 🚀
