Early to mid-game was actually good and had an interesting story, but when you get to the DLC it is the most laggiest and crashiest piece of ♥♥♥♥ you will ever play in your life no matter how good your PC is, it got so bad I almost just didn't complete it at all if not for the easy gameplay. I recommend the base game but if I knew what I was gonna go through with the DLC, I wouldn't pick it up.
This was my 2nd playthrough, as I played it before in 2018 when it was on Xbox game pass. It took only about 8 hours to complete the main game, reach the max level, AND complete the DLC. The game of course was actually a lot of fun, and a true spiritual successor to Jaws Unleashed for the PS2. However, due to the playtime to beat the whole game, not including the collectibles, I recommend to pick up it and the DLC on sale. Update: 10.3 hours playtime [b]total[/b] was required for me to acquire all steam achievements for the game, so about two additional hours after completing the main story, DLC, and reaching max level. I also neglected to mention that the game started to frequently crash once I accessed the DLC. In the two hours I spent after completing the main game, I crashed seven times. I suspect this is something to do with the DLC, since it only started to do it after I began it.
Maneater is honestly an absolute blast and such a unique experience! The 'Shark PG' concept is incredibly fresh and ridiculously fun. Exploring the beautiful, vibrant open world while evolving from a small pup into a terrifying apex predator is deeply satisfying. The controls feel smooth and responsive, especially when you're leaping out of the water or causing absolute chaos. It’s the perfect mix of fast-paced action, rewarding progression, and hilarious, over-the-top gameplay. If you're looking for pure, unadulterated entertainment that doesn't take itself too seriously, this game is a 10/10 masterpiece!
