Is the best TCG and I've loved playing for free. Taught me and me brother the basics in an understandable way. It's also amazing to have a hundred triggers per turn and it takes care of all the calculations for me. Runs faster with steam for some reason, don't care, just enjoying the experience.
I've tried to get into this game but I just keep losing from luck. I know that Magic is partially a luck-based card game but it feels a lot more unfair in this game than real life. I also feel very pressured to win since you have to pay coins or gems to enter most events, and since it's so easy to lose in this game, you feel like you're getting scammed.
There are a myriad of problems playing MTG online through arena but I'll start with the technical: - Game client OFTEN hangs and needs to be restarted. This happens _during_ matches as well as out of matches in a variety of circumstances. If you can't restart the client fast enough you'll lose a turn in your match or lose the match. - Lateral scrolling in the game's various interfaces (card collection, store pages) is bad. This is clearly designed for touch interfaces, and good luck if you're not using one. - Interface for deck building is frankly quite bad. - The filters you enter do not persist if you leave the deck edit view. This is very very annoying when trying to find cards. Doing Drafts: Drafts are what everyone will tell you to do in order to get more gold and gems and cards. That's great, but unless you're very very very good at mtg you will just immediately eat ♥♥♥♥ and waste your money. It feels bad. It is bad. This is not something people should do unless they really know the game. - Matchmaking is very bad. ESPECIALLY in drafts. If you're a low level player you will routinely be playing against platinum+ people who you just will not stand a chance against. - People doing drafts on arena use third party tools to construct their decks from the draft. 17lands is one of these. This is especially true in the untimed limited drafts. If you are trying to use your skill to build a deck list yourself then you're facing a real uphill battle. Game resources and the game economy: - If you're new to MTG, or new to arena, then arena will feel super punishing for a long time. - It takes a very very long time to earn in game resources you can use to buy cards. You need a lot of in game resources to make vaguely competitive decks. - Your card pool will remain very limited unless you spend a ton of money. No doubt the slow trickle of resources is to pressure you to spend money on gems so you can get more packs, do more drafts, etc. You will feel the pressure. Your decks are gonna suck for a long time unless you drop dollars. If you're new to magic in general you're probably going to spend your resources on the wrong cards and waste them. Many people in these reviews and elsewhere will tell you to "save your wildcards". They are right. Unfortunately saving them means you're gonna be playing the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ decks forever until you get enough resources to build an actual deck. The game does no hand holding there, and you will need to use third party resources to really learn the game, and what decks to build. Everyone seems to be doing this as well so you will quickly notice a lot of decks that you play against feel same-y to each other. That's because folks want to log in and do their challenges which require wins. The game incentivizes only winning, and winning as fast as possible. -- To conclude: MTG arena is expensive and it takes a very long time to get enough cards to start having fun. If you want to experiment with fun and interesting decks you will discover you do not have the F2P resources required to craft those decks or get those cards by other means. You will be playing folks online using third party tools for deck lists, for drafts, etc. I can't recommend the game because arena forces you into an extremely disadvantaged position by limiting your cards severely enough where the only way forward feels like it is to pay a boat load of money.
Matchmaking
Just play it.
this game is fun
this is my fvoarite game evr
the people that left a bad review just don't know how to build a good deck and rage. believe in the heart of the cards.
