This game needs a single-player mode with bots. Sometimes I just want to play a few matches for fun without facing other players; a bot mode would make this possible, allowing me to build decks by purchasing cards and then playing against a bot using those decks. This would benefit the game by likely attracting more newcomers, as well as players who simply want to play casual matches against bots, test their decks, and so on. Attracting more players would also increase revenue, as they would purchase booster packs, battle passes, and gems. I see no reason why the game still lacks a proper bot mode, relying instead only on Sparky—which is a limited bot.
No. Just no. Don't do it. Don't waste your time here. If you are new to MTG definitely don't do it. (this will give you such a warped view of how the game is)
better than yugioh
Just play normal magic what a dumb game. there are two play styles. your opponent just have infinite "destroy target creature cards" or he plays infinite Tokens. so much fun
I thought I'd throw my meager opinion into the ring because while I agree with a lot of the criticisms MtG and WotC as a whole has been receiving, there's still some great stuff here, especially if you're someone who has never played the game before. Magic is definitely one of those 'easy to learn, hard to master' type of games with a lot of ways to break the game. It's a game where just getting your opponent down to 0 life isn't the only way to win a game. For instance, maybe you build a poison deck with low powered creatures but if you can just get 10 counters on your opponent, you win. Or maybe you play something like Platinum Angel where it's ability, straight up, is you can't lose and your opponent can't win so long as it's on the field. You can even turn lose conditions, like milling yourself until you can't draw anymore, into a win condition with the right cards! Magic, in my opinion, is probably the only card game where breaking the rules isn't just possible, but kind of expected with card providing a myriad of alternate win conditions and being able to make all kinds of problems arise for your opponent, and vice versa. Of course the biggest issue with the entire thing right now, as numerous others have said, is a combination of so many cards being pumped out and cards that feel like they have no business being here. For the former, as someone who does enjoy the digital version but also has his own physical collection, my enthusiasm is always in a rough spot when not only do I have to worry about possibly buying oodles of new cards in packs, boxes, or singles irresponsibly, but those prices have just been rising and its gotten painful enough that I need to be choosy with what sets to actually go for, which does kind of lead into the latter issue. Magic has always had it's own in-universe themes and whatnot and that's pretty evident in all the sets you can find. While most of it is very fantastical with your traditional wizards and warriors, there are sets that feel more oddball like the racing-themed Aetherdrift, the horror-themed Duskmourn, and the space-themed Edge of Eternities. However, there's also other sets part of their Universes Beyond. As a concept, I think it's great. Getting more people into MtG by way of their favorite things is sick, plus some of them introduce interesting mechanics. But then you have other sets that feel kind of forced, and I think the recent Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes sets really feel that way. Legit, the only reason I bought a few individual booster packs for these two is really because of the chase cards the Soul and Mind Stone, and that's it. Tony Stark may be my favorite Marvel hero, but that doesn't mean I want to see him in a card game I've also associated as being more fantasy-based. That said, some of the sets are ones that I think do work, with the shining examples being Final Fantasy and Avatar: The Last Airbender. For FF, I think for me it mostly came down to me being a fan of the series and getting the chance to see these characters and how their abilities are interpreted was very cool. As for Avatar, I think that mostly comes down to introducing new mechanics that, again, was a cool interpretation of a fandom I love, with things like Firebending naturally lending itself to monstrous gouts of burst damage as your suddenly pumped with red mana to spend that instant, or Earthbending letting you make a board state without sacrificing lands by using said lands. I really like Magic and always have ever since I got introduced to it via a YouTuber's review of the old Shandalar video game. But with that being said, I'm not blind to how excessive it's all becoming. I really hope things get scaled back to something reasonable because while I understand WotC is a company and needs to make money, it's getting tricky for them to get my money, especially when with a game like this, I can just use wild cards and not care about cosmetics and I'm pretty happy. 7/10 - It's great for new players wanting to learn and for more experienced players to play a game without needing to go to their LGS. That said, while I know there's the Brawl mode, I do hope there's a proper Commander mode at some point with a minimum of 4 players for more casual games. Include maybe a text or voice chat to that, and I think it's be awesome.
its crack, what can i say?
