The combat is a disaster. The gladiators act in a completely uncoordinated way. I wonder why there are even tactics in this game; ultimately, it’s just a stupid mob bashing away at each other. The gladiators frequently use jump attacks, but 70% of the time they land somewhere other than where the opponent actually is. Even with better skills and gear, they fight like mindless girls having a tantrum. I love gladiator games, but this combat system is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Progress is painfully slow. Even though I won most of the fights, I received only slightly more money than I would have for a loss. It involves extreme grinding; it became monotonous after just an hour, and I lost all motivation to keep playing.

I'm used to games where you essentially play as god. This is not one of those games. In this game, you watch fate unfold. You plan, spend, and strategize, but you can only do so much. In the end, all you can do is pray sometimes. You have to learn to be okay with saying goodbye, losing your prized fighters, and picking yourself back up after the fact. It's humbling, and it's refreshing.
