This game is pretty and promise a lot of things. We see what this game has to offer. It pushed us to give our best and try again to succeed and test our determination. But this game isn't without flaws and it's sad to arrive at the end and feeling unsatisfied. 1. The rooms are big, but the parkour feels very minimalistic at some points. Vipera's forest and the last level seems to be the only levels "charged" with traps and obstacles. 2. Some jumps are really precise and challenging, and are really fun to do. The system of trial and errors is not a bad thing, but at some point it's impossible to not feel frustrated because one spike/deadly crystal killed us at 1 pixel close. After trying to master the moves and do all the jumps correctly, it feels too punishing. 3. The first and last "Bosses" are hard and challenging. The middle one only took us one minute to beat, it was very weird. 4. The controls are original and we loved using all Nox's abilities to progress despite some inconsistencies. 5. Sometimes you are stuck into walls, and it's pretty infuriating because it breaks your momentum, especially during the last boss fight. They could have added a button to cling to walls instead. 6. Only 2 collectibles, for only 2 achievements, not even a secret cutscene to reward you for saving everyone and reading all Paddlewood fanfic chapters. 7. And the most disapointing part, the story. It's linear, flat, unsurprising. The game is so nervous you never take the time to bond with the main characters. You don't feel concerned by what's happening. The lore is slammed into your face and you can't even digest it that you are teleported to the next level. You can even skip the cutscenes showing how the story wasn't the main point of the game. They tried to make a rich story, but there are so much elements the lore tells but never show you. The dragon, the big anaconda, the giant worm? Forget them, you will never have Paddlewood's chance to meet them. (At some point, Paddlewood seems to have a more interesting adventure than us). The animation is pretty and the character design is very cute, but except the owl, the villain and the gods, no other npc's. Even the villagers you saved are conveniently hidden behind the camera for the 3 seconds the cutscene show them free. And the ending of course is a succession of cliches and even if the main villain (that you encounter only at the very end) has ONE interesting sentence about how we are MAYBE to blame about what happened, it's never questioned after. Luxanna sacrifies herself and we don't know what happened to the vilain army, as if they never existed. In conclusion, the game has a huge potential, and it tries very hard. But it's obviously a game only made for speedrunners and people who want to master all the skills and levels, not for people who are interested in discovering the lore by themselves. It's not a "bad" game, but it feels incomplete, or it tried to to propose to many things at the same time and at the end it feels like a blurry mess. Buy this game if you are interested in speedy levels, the game is clearly made for speedruns only. But buy it with at least 30% of reduction, because it's not a game you can spend hundreds of hours on it.

My feelings resonate with a few of the other reviewers who do not recommend this game. They put it more eloquently than I can, but here is my summary after only playing for an hour and deciding it wasn't for me: -The art is cute, but the design for the main character clashes with the world in a way that is unappealing. There is also misleading foreground and background design. -I don't enjoy the story-telling, as it felt I was being read a bedtime story. I'd rather get the story through the MC instead of a narrator. -The platformer mechanics are unique, but it wasn't...challenging? I didn't get past the first act (bc I lost interest), but it just felt like there was not going to be challenge progression. It seems I was right based off of other reviews.
a beautiful game with a unique gimmick, the story is interesting and the secrets and collectable are challenging, the game is also fun to speedrun
cannot change keyboard control keys , why ??? i hate that control
The only real thing I didn't like about this came was the riddle that was thrown at around mid game. Other than that this was an amazing experience.
I picked this game up on a whim and was not disappointed by the main playthrough. It's a fun platformer with a unique gimmick that allows for fun exploration and quick movement. The game has some secrets that are fun to try and find, but overall the main game is straight forward, simple, and quick. The art style is great. The asthetics and color scheme are really cool. The music is surprisingly really good. And also surprisingly, there is a little story. Nothing amazing, but interesting enough to read as lore is unlocked or to listen to after beating each level. There are some challenges in a speed mode that could be interesting for some. I didn't feel that the controls were tight enough for my taste, so I didn't mess around with this much. The asking price for what I got out of it is steep. For someone who really wants to master some challenging platform levels in a speedrun, you probably will get your money's worth. It seems like new speed run challenges get released, so it may continue to provide additional value. For me, I enjoyed it for what it is, and I'll move on.
Steam Deck
LightFall has all the vibes of a flash game I would find on Kongregate, and I do mean it as a compliment. It's a platformer with stages, rather than one connected world; it has movement like you're constantly on ice, but it's easy to get used to it; there's plenty of small hidden challenges and lore so that's nice... But I do have to take offense at "The Ultimate Freedom" point of game description since that's just blatantly not true with how linear this game is. But hey, it's a nice four hours experience, I suppose. Man, I miss flash games.
If you like to go fast, tight controls, and multiple movement mechanics, then play this. It's pretty, the music is good, and tricky without being annoying. Good players can race through levels at insane pace, and rookies can take their time. The game doesn't force you to make a choice.
PHOTOSENSITIVITY WARNING. Part of the game involves being blinded by a repetitive flashing light. There is no warning for this in-game. If you are at all sensitive to light I highly recommend not playing this game. I mostly enjoyed Light Fall, however I can't recommend it. The game started out great, giving just enough feedback to let the player know what to do but not overwhelm them, slowly ramping up the difficulty. Controls were responsive, aside from some issues with how the character acts on walls. Other than that everything was going really well. Until Act IV. The timing in Act IV is way too tight compared to the rest of the game. You mess up even once and its pretty much over. Even just a half-second of leeway would have made it much better. I'm fine with difficult platformers IF they are difficult throughout or have a decent difficulty ramp. Straight up slapping the player in the face with an seemingly insane difficulty spike is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I get that the game is geared towards speedrunners, with options in game to help out with that. But it shouldn't hinder the average players enjoyment. Pros: Movement is fluid. Simple color palette and aesthetic. Responsive Controls. Cons: small part of the game involves being blinded by a repetitive flashing light in the middle of the game with no Photosensitivity Warning anywhere in game. Act IV ramps up difficulty quickly taking the game from relatively easy to frustratingly hard. Timing on Final Boss is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Character sometimes likes to cling to walls for dear life, other times struggles to even keep traction. Simple color palette leads to some foreground and background elements blending together making it hard to see. If you are a speedrunner or are a platformer aficionado that is okay with a little jank and a steep difficulty spike, then you may enjoy this game. I am neither of those so sadly I can't recommend it.
