Legacy of Sin: The Father Sacrifice

I would not recommend this game, its very buggy. Some times units wont be placed, you will lose the gold you spent on it and its hard to select and move units around leading to the quicker runner type enemy unit to easily get past the weak defense you start with. The story is pretty weak and the whole game is just about you placing down one of three unit types over and over again. There is some strategy to the game but nothing more then placing down two lines of units, after that its all about replacing dying units with gold you get from kills.

It plays like a badly coded Newgrounds flash game (reminds me of certain strategy games that were popular on that site back in the mid 00s), but it looks gorgeous and I love pike and shot warfare, which this game represents quite well - excellently, even, considering its limitations. Gameplay consists of defending lanes using three types of units (which gradually unlock during the campaign). You can purchase pikemen, musketeers, and knights to defend against an invading orc army - the classic tercio configuration of early modern warfare! Pikemen can attack two tiles away and over the shoulder of the man in front of them. Musketeers require a clear line of fire, reload slowly, but their shots score one-hit kills. Knights are heavily armored and form a great defensive wall. Typically, you would want to have musketeers in front, retreat them after their first shot, then have one line of knights with a line of pikemen behind to defend in melee. Practically, I found it best to focus entirely on musketeers in the very back and only one or two knights to defend in melee if any enemies manage to get close enough to threaten my musketeers. While the game is extremely janky (you can put units on a tile that's already occupied, creating a complete mess of men all attacking at the same time), rotating musketeers between lanes is fun and their one-hit kill shots are satisfying to watch. The game does become quite challenging later on, even if you exploit the multiple-units-per-tile glitch: units are expensive, and the more of one type you buy, the more expensive it becomes, encouraging you to diversify. Every dead orc gives you money to spend on more units, so you have to aim for efficiency: killing as many orcs as possible without losing any men. The best part of this game are the visuals. The developer obviously put a lot of effort into the animations and is very proud of them - deservedly so. Every unit is animated by hand, and their animations all look amazing: orcs slashing their swords, musketeers reloading their gun, there's great attention to detail in this game's animations. All in all, an amateurishly coded game that still manages to be fun if you can stand the jank, and has some absolutely gorgeous hand-drawn animation.
