It reminds me of a modern version of something like The 7th Guest or The 11th Hour. I don't find it scary. It's another one of those games that good for what it is, it's just not really my thing.

they're all traumatized and now so am i.

Layers of Fear is a short but genuinely interesting horror experience that understands exactly where its strengths lie. It does not rely on complex mechanics or deep gameplay systems. Instead, it focuses almost entirely on atmosphere, psychological tension, and narrative presentation. From a gameplay perspective, it is very simple. Most of the experience consists of walking through corridors, exploring rooms, interacting with objects, and solving occasional light puzzles. There is very little mechanical depth here, but in this case, it does not need more. The game’s real purpose is storytelling. And in that regard, it succeeds. The premise of a painter descending into madness is compelling on its own, but the game adds layers of psychological horror and themes that evoke works like The Picture of Dorian Gray. Hallucinations, shifting environments, and distorted reality are used effectively to place you inside the mind of someone collapsing under obsession and mental illness. The changing house itself becomes one of the strongest elements of the game. Rooms transform behind your back, corridors bend into impossible shapes, and familiar spaces become threatening in subtle ways. It creates a constant sense of unease without needing excessive jump scares. Its short length also works in its favor. The game does not overstay its welcome, delivering a focused experience that remains engaging from start to finish. Layers of Fear may be mechanically minimal, but as a piece of interactive horror storytelling, it is memorable and well executed. Score: 8/10 – A brief but effective psychological horror journey built on atmosphere, style, and a compelling descent into madness.
