Sadly not a fan of small arenas with a timer especially a short one like 20 sec. yeah, I failed to notice the timer from the store page...
Game has potential. Right now it's just a real basic proof of concept "progressive wave hack-n-slash/twin stick gunner arena survival rogue-like" or PWHNSTSGASR for short. What it does right: Fast action, reasonably distinct graphics and sprites. Good fighting mechanics. There is your classic melee attack, a dash move, right stick aim and right trigger shoot. You can clash swords if attacks coincide, you can bat away projectiles with your melee attack as well. Has a leveling system with Roguelite style upgrades and different synergistic build options and so far it seems reasonably diversified but not over complicated. Has cool enemies with both melee and ranged attacks of different styles, with a reasonable amount of diversity including "elites". Has a leaderboard and the feeling of accomplishment when you rise up in the ranks. Your default gun has infinite ammo and you have to reload but it's not too slow and you can still run and dash while you reload. You can pick up temporary guns with different attack types that have limited ammo. These can be immediate game changers even if you only get three shots with one. What needs work: Enemy AI is bad. Enemies get stuck on things sometimes behind things and you can't find them, meanwhile the timer is running out and favor is going down... Needs more colors occasionally to refresh the eye palette, though the sword clash effects are decent... Sometimes your melee doesn't trigger even though you have full stamina...like some sort of delay but not telegraphed by any animation. Feels really bad when it happens. Enemy animations are jerky and lack frames so its kind of hard to gauge their timing sometimes...They wind up to swing so there is a telegraph but then one frame later bam! full swing has been executed...it breaks immersion and looks janky. So far there is only the one arena, the one character and no meta progression of any sort and just one mode of play. Traps are really hard to contend with because the action is so frenetic. Just a buzzkilling game ender as you are zipping around slaughtering enemies, racking up favor, zip-zip blammo SHOTGUN trap to the face. Game over. IDK...feels bad. Maybe make it stand out more somehow cause they look pretty much just like gun drops which is f*cked up honestly.... The reloading system is not intuitive and it seemed like sometimes you have to hold down the button to keep reloading other times just tap it and it continues reloading unless you cancel with a melee attack...not sure what is happening there...would be nice if fast loaders dropped as loot once in a while allowing you a full reload in one shot, maybe you could stock pile a few and upgrade how many and other bonuses when you use them... Free idea. Also, since the game is based on speed and action, it would be nice and much more fun if the exp and other drops (other than guns) were just automatically attracted to your character (like in Risk of Rain) or even just an icon in the UI out of the arena field. It takes away from your core mechanic to be distracted with running around to collect the exp. There is a parry system though I don't quite understand how it is supposed to work and I never even think of ever using it since this game gives you no time to think at all. Also for some reason you cannot see who is Top on the leader board unless you are close. It only shows you your position in the leader board along with about a range of 10 or so from your position. Its a really stupid choice, or maybe it's a bug. IDK needs to be fixed. Over all, for $3.99, if you like challenging fast game play and showing off your score in a leaderboard, you could do worse with your money. Devs are still updating it. Seems like it's worth supporting. That's my 5 cents. Inflation is a MONSTER. Just Keep Calm and Kellogg Globalists. Let's Go BrAnDoN!
