After playing it a bit more, I've decided that this game is mostly a soulless dungeon crawler. I want to love this game, but it doesn't do enough things right to hold my attention. The difficulty curve is also massive, which would normally be fun but borders sharply on frustration here. All in all, it's a decent game, but it's just not something that you're going to love if you want a fun upbeat adventure in Gensokyo. It's more like Wizardry with a Touhou skin. I hope you'll still play it if that's what you're into, but I wanted something a little better.
I love Reimu she's cute and pretty no one can even beat her beautiness

I am writing this review on May 27th 2026, some hours after beating the game. As of right now, the post game has not been released, and the game has no downloadable content yet. I might change this review upon finishing any additional content that might potentially be released.
The "bad", with some notes and a little bit of "good":
- The position of Run Away in the battle menu. This might sound a bit petty (I apologize), It is a little bit easy to accidentally select it due to its position, and it's very easy to accidentally run away because there's no confirmation dialog. - There are some things that in my opinion either overwhelming or a bit intimidating. Such as the huge skill trees. Or some mechanics that I, as a first time player thought I had to keep track of, at first, such as the Despair or Emotion crystals (which for better or for worse, turned out not to be too important in my own playthrough. And thankfully that didn't gatekeep me from playing the game in any capacity) - To piggyback off of, or continue from the previous point, there are some things that I felt like I had to keep track of while playing and planning out boss fights, when I first started. One such example is turn counters, and another is attack cooldowns. I do not know if it's because I don't usually plan way too far ahead like some other people I know do, however eventually this stopped being a huge issue, or an issue at all - To further continue my point about the skill tree. At first it looks really complicated, however for better or for worse, it doesn't end up "feeling" that much like a tree (or at least it didn't in my Hard difficulty playthrough, in which I was probably a bit overleveled, in all fairness). It definitely looks like one, but it doesn't feel like one, to me. What I mean by this is that, I do not think I ever seemed to want for points to an extent where I would look at the skill tree and say, "I need to choose one branch or another". I believe this is because for the most part, I felt like I always had enough skill points relative to my level - The boss refight feature is amazing, however for better or for worse there are actual rewards gated behind the Lunatic refight feature, and some of them I feel are a little bit too important to ignore? I will say that despite them not being way too important, it was enough to make me feel like doing the refights on Lunatic was a choice I should make a little bit sooner than later, or a little bit sooner than I might have liked, if I were a player who did not care for Lunatic. Thankfully, I did care for Lunatic and did the vast majority of them immediately after I unlocked them, so I guess it's not too big of an issue. Some other people might think that this whole thing begs the question of "Why have a difficulty choice if there's rewards that the player would want to get regardless of the difficulty they chose?" The reason why I'm mentioning some of these points is because while later on it wasn't an issue for me, at first, I do remember it being an issue I was anxious about, and I do know some people who felt overwhelmed by all this.

The "good", with some notes:
- The story is a huge step up from the previous two games, in that it has a lot more dialogue and is quite a bit more interesting - The BP requirements from previous games are gone, though BP is still useful for other things in the game. While I am not 100% certain I agree with how it was handled in this game, this makes far more sense and it's a far more pleasant experience - The music is royalty free, however there are some amazing choices in there for what they represent - This game took what the other two games did and somewhat improved upon it, without reinventing the wheel, so to speak. Which is a huge positive for me, because as a long time player of this fan-game series, that meant I had a good idea of what to expect, and was very pleased with this - While one could argue that there is less replay value due to the boss refight feature, it's still there

Some other notes:
I've been playing this game since day 1. It's been through quite a few patches. I want to say that as long as the developer makes the game possible and smooth enough, they can and should stick to their original vision of the game, and not modify it too much based on feedback from certain types of players.

Playability on Steam Deck
I'm writing this review on my main PC, but I played this on Steam Deck for the most part, and it plays really well under Proton 9, at the time of writing this.
MUITO BOM!
So I haven't finished this game yet, but I'm certainly past the halfway point now while playing on the Lunatic difficulty setting. Man, even though I came into this knowing next to nothing about Touhou I can tell you definitively that this is a *fantastic* DRPG. There are piles upon piles of systems that are all designed to be synergistic with one another, with great care going into their QoL features, making them feel both accessible and highly impactful to your run. The boss fights are IMMACULATE. Each one feels like their own unique puzzle, often requiring you to really re-assess your team combination, plan of attack, how you're going to circumvent their individual mechanics and attacks, etc. I've been doing play by play updates to friends while playing and half the time I feel like I'm writing a novel discussing the unique boss designs and how much I enjoyed the thrill of just barely defeating them on Lunatic difficulty. The story is passable! The writing is perfectly serviceable and the story is approachable for someone who isn't well versed in Touhou's lore (the game does a very good job of providing character background information to help you understand pre-existing relationships). Again, really can't recommend this game enough. There is one minor hiccup with Cloud Saves not always working as intended, but hopefully the Developer can work with Valve to iron that out, and there are potential work-arounds being discussed in the interim. Just give this game a chance if you enjoy Dungeon Crawlers, even if you know nothing about Touhou at all. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Remila is so broken and I love it, she can even easily solo an enemy horde.
issa fun!
