Kyoto Colorful Days

Short lighthearted drama VN. Something different from the average VN on steam. Its focus is more on real life issues and problems rather than usual world saving/romance themes. Refreshing! Also it contains the collection of everyday expressions in both Tokyo and Kyoto Japanese so it is also possible to learn from this title. Big plus from me.

5/10 Есть такая игра - Go! Go! Nippon! ~My first trip to Japan~. Тоже визуальная новелла, в которой герой довольно много перемещается по Токио и окрестностям, от одних достопримечательностей к другим. Я прямо вел конспект, и точек на карте набралось там приличное количество. Так вот эту игру я купил, чтобы получить сходный опыт для Киото. Тем более, в той игре поездка в Киото тоже была, но довольно короткая, по верхам. И я подумал, что здесь-то красота Киото развернется на полную. Удивительное. Но не тут-то было. Список посещенных мест куцый и содержит только самую туристическую попсу, про которую вы наверняка и так знаете. Удивительно, но в токийской Go! Go! Nippon! киотских локаций больше! А здесь игра, по сути, отстраняется от своего названия - Kyoto Colorful Days. Kyoto, как уже выяснили, тут маловато. А сами дни не такие уж красочные. Главный герой занимается, в общем-то, двумя вещами - безуспешными поисками работы и полукриминальными разборками с местными. И где-то там, в перерывах, поездки по разным городским местам. Плюсы. - Визуальное и музыкальное оформление сделаны достойно. Минусы. - Сюжет реально короткий, с минимальным количеством выборов, влияющих на концовку. - Можно было добавить больше диалогов, не служащих сюжетному развитию, а просто выстраивающих отношения между героями и раскрывающих их личности. Если честно, персонажи в игре какие-то одномерные. - Концовки скомканы. - Выбор одной героини, по сути, означает, что другую настигнет плохая концовка. Протагонист для хорошей концовки незаменим, но при этом настолько вялый, что двум девушкам сразу помочь не может. Мой "палец вверх" в данном случае просто означает, что игра сделана добротно и вполне заслуживает прохождения. Но многого от нее все же не ждите. Лучше найдите в каталоге Steam игру Go! Go! Nippon! и купите ее. Она великолепна.

I would only recommend this VN if you get it on special. It was short and I did not find that it got me invested into the characters the way Tokyo School Life did for example (also published Dogenzaka Lab but made by a different studio). It's worth the couple of bucks they ask for when it's on special because of the nice Kyoto setting and it's light entertainment value but the full price. If you want to get something that's really worth it, I would recommend Tokyo School Life: it's twice or three times as long, the characters are much deeper, funner and there's three girls so you get more replay value.

Game presentation was good, I wish I could give mixed review, but If i had to give one then sadly a thumb down.[list] [*] The saddest part is game is very shallow, I was shocked that it ended, like huh wtf? is this the ending? no more? where it could extend it like 3 times more. It was like you paid to watch 30 min film in theatre where it should be 1h 30m.. [*] When character development is getting in place, then the game throw cheap convenient crap at you like "months later" or "years later" then poooof! stuff happened! you live peacefully in Japan, congrats! End! GG! wtf? [*] FYI, I completed good end route within only 1h 30m with normal reading speed. [*] Kyoto sight seeing is too little, provided that if game is trying sell that point, compared to competitive title like "Tokyo school life" or "Japan school life". [/list] For a good side, [list] [*] Game is fully voiced, and listening to kansai-ben is cool for a good change. [*] Game is generous to include informative kansai vs normal Japanese comparison in extra mode. But it is only useful to JP learners anyway. [/list] [b]Only get when on discount. Traveling to Kyoto to sightsee and get a job after not finding “the right one” in America, you meet two girls on your first day, Akane and Madoka! Both of them offer to show you around but they also have their own worries and problems that you can help solve! 2+ hours to complete, 2 routes with good, normal, and bad endings. While short and insubstantial, the backgrounds are beautiful and the sprites are animated and drawn very well. Both of the love interests weren’t very interesting and you get wrapped up in their problems pretty quickly making the story difficult to enjoy. While this isn’t a bad VN, it’s definitely not something I would recommend. If you are still interested in it, Kyoto Colorful Days frequently goes 90% off. Interestingly enough, you can also choose to go through the entire VN alone, reaching a short 20 min bad end.
