For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

TLDR: A solid but unspectacular entry that fails to match Vengeance's impact, with frustrating dual hero lane management, uninspiring towers, and a whiff of pay to win undermining the familiar fun.

PROS:
➕Similar engine to KRV - good graphics/art/technical side ➕Similar progression as KRV - new heroes/towers/passive tree
CONS:
➖Covering lanes can get frustrating with two heroes and no big cooldown ability ➖Double hero controls is cumbersome, with no ability to change bind ➖Numerous DLCs with many DLC units/towers are considered the best (Small P2W) You can view my reviews for previous Kingdom Rush games here: KR1: Kingdom Rush (KR1) KR2: Kingdom Rush Frontiers (KRF) KR3: Kingdom Rush Origins (KRO) KR4: Kingdom Rush Vengeance (KRV)
Content (Game world/Narrative) – [6/10]
Game world the same if you’ve played any other KR game - a map of specific points where you build towers. Often contains Easter eggs. Never big with the narrative, there are some small tidbits that come over from previous titles, but there isn’t a focus on this
Gameplay (Mechanics/Difficulty) – [6/10]
If you played KRV, you would know the mechanics here. There was a massive revamp that occurred between KRO and KRV and KR5 builds off that change. The biggest change coming into KR5 is now you have 2 heroes you control at once, and no major cooldown like in past games (lightning bolt/meteor). This often leads to you having to cover multiple lanes at a time, more so than the past iterations. Aside from that change though, all the towers are new, like KRV, but I didn’t really find any of them as fun or exciting to use and make a build as with KRV. The difficulty is par for the series - generally pretty as long as some fast flying or unblockable units don’t sneak by. I didn’t notice a massive difficulty jump with the post-campaign content as you tend to get with KR games.
Graphics (Quality/Technical) – [7/10]
Great graphics and art style, as it's using the same engine as KRV. This is especially true with some of the levels and the Wukong DLC, how the animations and level events can get truly over-the-top. While the technical side is as good as KRV in how it runs, I was disappointed in the controls, especially how there is no way to bind each of the two heroes to separate keys. I only encountered a single bug that I noticed - where the support tower I was using (the one that heals and roots), stopped attacking. I had to restart the level and ensure that they always attacked a unit before I purchased upgrades. 1440p @ 240hz | installed on SSD
Audio – [7/10]
Audio seems great. The music is a big step-up and almost reminds me of World of Warcraft in certain parts. Loved it. Also, the repetitive hero voices didn’t seem as noticeable this time.
Replay Factor (Longevity) – [3/10]
Much of the achievements are gated behind purchasable DLC, which seems to be a newer thing with the KR games - getting all the mobile “Benefits” in the form of DLC not be included with the base game on Steam. Also, my same criticisms remain constant throughout the series - KR needs better replay value. Replaying the same levels on heroic/iron modes are really not cutting it. I want stats that show tower DPS, I want online components, and I want and endgame or endless modes.
Final Verdict – [6/10]
Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD (KR5) is the 5th installment in the Kingdom Rush franchise. While the jump from Origins to Vengeance was big and impressed me, the jump from Vengeance to 5 I found less impressive. Let’s start with the negatives, I have two main gripes and that’s with the new dual hero mechanic, and the towers. The dual hero mechanic sounds nice at first, but then you realize the game punishes you in a way for this new feature by throwing much more required interaction your way through multiple lane coverages. It’s not uncommon for every single level to have 3+ lanes now to cover, which can get very stressful when the game decides to ruin your day by sending in some fast flying units, unblockable units, teleporting units, or a combination of all at once. This doesn’t happen too often, especially in the normal campaign mode, but the setup for frustration is definitely there. As for the towers…this one is odd, because it's the first entry in the entire KR series where I had big difficulty on choosing a tower build that worked for me. KRV also had some of this just due to the nature of allowing the player to choose their tower loadouts, but in KR5 it was that plus just simply not liking any of the towers. Also, a big shame that some of the towers I wanted to play with (Cannoneers) are locked behind DLC and the DLC I did purchase (Wukong) had a tower that carried me through the game (Pandas) which makes me right away not enjoy the balance and start to think of P2W aspects. The positives? Well, it has the same good KR-style of TD gameplay, so I think that veterans of the series will like this entry regardless, but nothing sticks out as inherently positive that past editions don’t have as well. It’s a solid experience, but going into this expecting as massive of an increase in the general game look and feel from KRO to KRV, you’re going to end up disappointed. Overall, yes, I do recommend KR5. It’s a solid entry, but not a high point for the series. My rank of KR games so far, from best to worst: Vengeance Frontiers KR1 5: Alliance TD Origins
Recommend? (Price) [Y/N]

Yes
$20 is too much for the main campaign that you can finish in under 10 hours. Historical low puts it at around $11. Wait for a sale. 4/5 from me. If you like the other games, this one is good but maybe not as good. 25 stages playable without the DLC for a bit over 10 hours on Veteran difficulty going for all 3 stars. 15 stages locked behind DLC that is pretty in-your-face as they show you the DLC heroes/towers/campaigns in game before you have purchased them. Previous games rewarded you with upgrade points for doing the 4th and 5th star challenges. That is not the case for this game, and I think that is a move in the wrong direction.
one of the best Kingdom Rush games in my opinion! I had such a blast playing it! it just looked sooooo good
Good game but far too short compare to KR Vengeance. Half the game is behind paywall.
