EA Review: It's a very attractive art style used in this game. The music also isn't jarring like other games of this genre so the fact it's looping is just filling the background void without grating on your nerves after the 100th repetition. But some of the interactions make absolutely no sense. For example: You can pick professions at the beginning of the game. I picked Artist... I apparently broke into someones house, and am chatting with a police officer and two women. Why haven't I been kicked out? Why are they spilling their life stories to me? Why is the police officer just handing me all the juicy details? I'm a no body who broke into this house to snoop around a crime scene... It's assuming I picked detective (Which would make sense on this branch of story telling). Honestly, if the games art didn't rescue it, I'd be thumbs downing it for the wild writing assumptions (Or maybe just poorly implemented professions that don't work with the current narrative). Perhaps the situations like this one could be resolved by a change in tone, or attitude towards the player followed by "Why are you still here?".

Buyer beware, you'll likely be paying for an incomplete game that will NEVER be completed. It's been 4 months since my review and at the time, they claimed CH3 was actively being worked on. Guess what. It's now June and no signs of CH3 in game - even tho the dev notes said - CH4 is now being worked on and CH3 is being bug-fixed (with full translations done). That note btw, was from last month - it's now June 24th and devs have not updated yet. If you can't finish the game or deliver on deadlines, I'm going to recommend no. Devs barely communicate OR miscommunicate. Just for example. On Feb 28, dev notes said for CH3: "Script implementation into the game (97%) 🆕 QA (15%) 🆕" Guess when CH3 was "finished"? Devlog #12 - May 31st. But guess what also?? It's not in the game! Oh well.
This is an EA review with only two chapters available at the moment. It is an interesting detective game with a time loop scenario. I'm wondering how everything will turn out at the end of the game. There is no romance in the game, but I personally think thats fine since it wouldn't or should'nt be the main focus of the game anyway. It should also be noted that I only did one playthrough so far and didn't look for every ending. Pro:

The art was actually the main reason I even got interested in the game
Slight animations
Character customization. You can choose a gender and set up a disguise with a nickname to go into the fully hidden character mode. Interesting idea!
You can choose a job, which will in turn affect how your stats turn out. This game will do stat check ups :)
Replay value
The story itself is interesting.
Neutral:

The game itself offers different mechanics such as investigation, heart check (which is kind of like a stat check on how people are feeling/looking like)
You can try different approaches to solve stuff (e.g. bribing, talking, combat, ...)
While you can increase your friendship levels with different people, I'm kinda missing, like, extra scenes for this. Or maybe it did change something, and I was just too blind to see it
Con:

The controls of the game feel a bit weird sometimes. An example would be: You would need F to move in a location you are investigating, but in the map S, so switching controls for what feels similar.
You can only gift something after talking to a character. I wonder why it is even an option at that time if it's blocked at the moment. Why not only show it if you can do it?
You can't save when there is a dialogue ongoing
What else can I say? I'm really looking forward to how everything turns out and what other characters might appear - or what might change when I replay it once a new chapter comes out. :) Also, since the game is still in EA some of the stuff I didn't like might change over time as well.
Nice story with some very interesting characters. Finding out about the twists and turns of the whole mystery is actually fun. The actual detective work is a bit lacking, though. You have to actually work to get the *wrong* culprits, because everything is pretty spelled out. Other than that, it's a very interesting mystery game.
Played Chapters 1 and 2. Extremely enjoyable! Very excited for the remaining chapters to come.
Kill the Clock is in early access so the game can change drastically. A murder with an interesting twist. I wake up on a train, bewildered at how I ended up here, as it was not my intended location. My objective? To kill a prominent local figure. When I infiltrate the mansion, he is already dead on the floor and his wife catches me; I end up in jail and escape, having to prove my own innocense. Kill the clock is a detective visual novel with an interesting twist on it. The goal is for the protagonist to solve a crime while dealing with a time travel mechanic to it. That is the entire premise and a sudden but intriguing introduction to the game Kill the Clock. The customization is nice. I can choose gender and profession, which impacts the amount of skill points in the abilities. Art direction is flowery and inspired by romanticized European art from the Belle Epoque era. Some of the character art design seem to have a dash of JRPG styling, particularly the hair. I love it. The standout feature in the game is the dice-rolling mechanic that is typical of the tabletop RPGs. Examples can be used when you need to convince someone what to do, or maybe break a lock, and even have to fight someone. In moments, I can use it to convince a person to do something, or use a bribe to loosen tongues. Or it can totally fail. In some moments, I have to resort to violence. Totally hilarious. Characters exhibit stereotypical tropes, and yet has some depth with their own persona hidden secret I even like the hidden gaming den where the dark game and coin clips costs money. The game has two quirks that I have issues. The save file system, the 1st slot is always the autosave, and I cannot overwrite with a manual save, apparently. Also, Pressing F is meant to move from one place to another, and press S to go somewhere. If both were changed, I would be super happy. A full voice over would be a great addiction. Soundtrack is nice, although more variety would be appreciated. Current price point is fair for the amount of content, although do expect it to increase dramatically upon the release of the 1.0 version. In the end, the game is truly an art form, where the plot and story feel interesting enough for me to dive through. One other comment though, as of now, May 2026, They are working on Chapter 4, as of April 2026, and I have to wait for them to finish. At the very least, the developer are transparent about it. It is a good use of the early access program. Also, I found it via the Steam Next Fest in February 2025, but it took me a full year to get strated playing the game. Consider it a backlog that held me back. In the end, Kill the Clock is a fun and engaging game for any fans of visual novels.

Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
