Admittedly, the story is nothing to write home about (but still decent, don't get me wrong), but the gameplay is truly addictive. I'd recommend to buy it for the TCG/gameplay first, VN/story second. If you don't care about TCGs at all it probably won't be your type of game. Though as someone who loves TCGs, VNs as well as the setting this was an amazing experience and I wish there was more like this. Being able to import custom playmats was a cool feature as well! Yes, the opponents get higher life pools and upgraded cards, which felt kind of necessary to increase the difficulty over the course of the game. To me the fact that some duels actually posed a challenge is exactly what made it so fun, although it could be more frustrating to others. Sometimes my favorite playstyles and decks were hardcountered and I had to come up with hardcounters to their decks, other times my decks seemed to trivialize the entire duel, but that's just the nature of TCGs.

I love this game. The characters are all fun and unique, the story and eldritch horror is quite good, the fact that your choices do actually matter is great, and the titular card game, Kamifuda, presents a difficult and rewarding challenge. Many comments seem to complain that the opponents cards are straight up buffed, and they get more and more health as time goes on, but this is both explained in lore as well as part of the mechanics. Your character is new to this, and though they're a bit of a prodigy, still are weak in comparison. Each battle is as much a duel as a puzzle, you have to figure out your opponents weakness, build a deck that can exploit it, and defeat them. The last thing I'll mention is that the art is very beautiful. I love deckbuilding games, especially unique ones like this, and for the price it is more than worth it. A first playthrough takes 12-18 hours, depending on how fast you read and how quickly you defeat your opponents, and theres multiple endings, hidden events and many options for rivalry, friendship, or romance. Very highly reccomend!
I didn't expect this game to be so good when I bought it. I haven't finished the story yet; so far I enjoy it but I really want to praise the actual card game. Most single player card games get stale after you build a perfect deck that almost always wins. In kamifuda this approach will not work; every time you duel against a different deck with a specific play style, and later on they will destroy you if you don't build your deck around countering it (for example, after few fairly normal duels you go up against a deck that has effectively no damaging spells but instead only had healing and damage prevention and will win by stalling you out of HP). This means that every duel feels fresh and requires you to think instead of going through the motions of playing your favourite combo every time. Rules themselves are fairly simple and easy to grasp, much simpler than more conventional card games. There is no stack, there are no interrupts or counterspells. If you played any mainstream card game you'll get it in no time. Even with that, there are many possible playstyles you can build your deck around, thanks to variety of keywords and mechanic on cards themselves. Overall, Kamifuda is a breath of fresh air in the genre and I'd recommend it to both card game enthusiasts and newbies alike.
A very enjoyable Visual Novel combined with a deck building card game. The story takes place in Harry Potter-like fantasy world although much darker. Magic is wielded through cards. To progress the story/dialogs you must fight your way through card battles. I played through the whole game and it was very enjoyable. Mostly because of the great story. The visuals and music create a nice atmosphere. The only thing I did not like was the difficulty of the card battles. You only have two difficulty settings "Easy" and "Standard". I started out with "Standard" but the battles were way to difficult for me so I had to lower it to "Easy". Easy made the first battles a joke but even then I struggled in the last battles. Still a very good game!
is good.
its a pretty cool game but the card section is more like a puzzle since the ai get better cards, i guess i forgot to give this a review
While Kamifuda has gameplay resembling competitive CCGs, it is strictly a singleplayer experience. It has lore explaining why NPC versions of spells are stronger and the player canonically travels back in time upon losing so he can build a deck to specifically counter what the current opponent is throwing at him. There are many interesting mechanics to deal with and are multiple methods of overcoming most challenges. After many complaints of the game being too difficult, the developers added an easy mode. The story takes place at a magic school for folks who are pact-sworn to eldritch entities. There are plenty of social interactions with fun banter along with unsettling encounters with the school's dark secrets and the occasional creepy tale of eldritch lore from Evy. While certain events are time limited, time only advances when clearing story events and you can complete everything before advancing. As someone who enjoys CCGs, comedy, and unsettling stories involving elder gods from beyond the stars, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Kamifuda.
its pretty good ^_^
A perfect mix of eldritch and card games. You will come to know true horror, 0 cost cards.
