Joyfess Ep 1: Martin's Secret Recipe is an adventure point and click game.
Story
Joyfess Tidesman, a fearless sailor from the Caribbean, decides to take a break from his sea adventures by participating in a cooking contest, only to realize that the most exciting of his adventures is yet to come as he tries to fetch a recipe and gather its contents. In his way are a variety of puzzles and challenges which he must overcome.
Gameplay
The game features many some interesting puzzles. The player is tasked with find items, combining them and using them in various ways. Some of the puzzle solutions seem somewhat arbitrary but are fun nonetheless.
Art & Animation
The aesthetic of this game is incredible to say the least. The game has a 2-D cartoon art style and the various locations, items and people are all uniquely and carefully designed. Animations and movement in the game are smooth and interesting.
Audio
The voice acting is superb- music, sound effects, ambient noise- all are brilliant. The sound really helps engross the player into Joyfess' world.
Verdict
At times the dialogue between characters can seem tedious and it can sometimes feel difficult to understand what exactly your current objective is (which could possibly be solved by a "hints" or "objectives" tab) but aside from that this game is a wonderful experience. The game has a wonderful and interesting story, excellent voice acting, music and sound effects and is beautifully designed. This is the first episode in the series and I definitely look forward to what the series has to offer next! Enjoyed this review? Great point and click adventure, which has a Monkey Island vibe to it. Double-click hurry-up mode, clear inventory. Finished it in three hours, sadly. Can't wait for the new episode!
Very warm and engaging!! The game has this really nice nostalgic vibe, and the art style is cute and refreshing. Its atmosphere feels well put together, and the logic puzzles are fun and challenging without being overwhelming. Good for classic adventure game enjoyers ;))
Very good but short
-Pros Nice art style Good controls, entirely playable with mouse. Decent voice acting Standard point and click puzzle design, inventory based for the most part. Interesting characters Humorous story and dialog -Cons No hot-spot reveal tool, although to be fair there is very little (if any) pixel hunting. Short Not a complete story, only episode one of a planned two patter. In fairness this should be fairly obvious from the game title. Overall recommended.
A very nice and entertaining inventory-based adventure game, in the best tradition of the genre. Nice graphics, funny story, not too difficult, nor too easy, no silly QTE''s (they dont belong in REAL adventure games). A bit on the short side, but looking forward to ep. 2, hopefully on its way ?
J'aurais bien aimé ce point'n'click mais il est aussi laid que peu intéressant.
If you used to enjoy the classics like Monkey Island, you will love Joyfess. It´s well written, it has nice puzzles and a great sense of humour. The art work is beautiful and the voice acting is superb! I would have liked it to be longer, so I really hope there is an Ep.2.
Super leuk puzzelspel
Wonderful point-and-click game, funny, relaxing. Like the old Sierra classics. Voice acting was good! characters wre nice, Story was entertaining as well. Might have been a bit longer, but after all, it's only the first episode. Liked the semi-ending, great touch! (Oops! am i spoiling?) Will definitely buy the second episode!
