[h1]Photosynthese ist auch nur eine Droge [/h1] Wie viele dieser kleinen Titel ist auch “I Am Vegend“ ursprünglich für iOs/Android konzipiert worden und wurde dann auf den PC portiert. [b]Gameplay[/b] In “I Am Vegend” kämpfen wir in einer 2D Ansicht mit bis zu 3 Pflanzen gegen Zombies. Man muss es sich so vorstellen: Man wählt eine seiner Pflanzen durch die Tasten 1-3 aus und klickt dann auf das Gebiet, wo man hin schießen möchte. Dabei müssen die Pflanzen nach ebenfalls 1-3 Schüssen nachladen und so geht es um den schnellen Wechsel und den Angriff auf die richtigen Zombies, da diese sich teilweise arg unterscheiden. Zusätzlich gibt es noch aktivierbare Booster, wobei man da dem Spiel deutlich anmerkt, dass es auf dem Handy Free2Play ist. Auf der Steam Version wurden diese Echtgeldkäufe natürlich entfernt. Man kann die Pflanzen sogar levelübergreifend verbessern… Zwischen den 15 Missionen in jeder Welt gibt es dann auch Bonusrunden oder teilweise ganz interessante Abwechslung, darunter zum Beispiel auch Mohrrübenbomber. Ja, du hast dich nicht verlesen! Es gibt 3 Welten mit jeweils neuen Pflanzen und einem Endboss, die man jedoch durchaus in knapp 2 Stunden durchspielen kann. Bei der vierten Welt steht zwar „Coming Soon“, aber irgendwie will ich da nach mehreren Jahren nicht mehr recht dran glauben. [b]Story[/b] Klar, man denkt hier sofort an das bekannte „Plants vs. Zombies“ und wohl auch an „Angry Birds“. Obwohl das Spiel in der Hinsicht einfach kopiert, stört es beim Spielen eher weniger. Ansonsten fand ich diese Aufmachung, dass die Pflanzen als Soldaten fungieren sogar ganz witzig. [b]Grafik/Sound[/b] Ein älteres Smartphonespiel. Aber immerhin ist die Grafik schön bunt und die Figuren ganz witzig dargestellt? Mehr kann man dem aber auch nicht abgewinnen. Die Geräusche lassen wiederum stark an das Original denken, während die Musik im Hauptmenü vielleicht lustig sein soll, aber meiner Meinung nach einfach nur penetrant nervig ist! [b]Fazit[/b] Klar, „I Am Vegend“ ist ein zusammengeschustertes Spiel, was ursprünglich darauf abzielte, dass man mit Ingamekäufen Geld von Leuten abzockt. Das Spiel ist wirklich nicht großartig, aber erstaunlich gut für Zwischendurch oder einfach mal zum Zeit totschlagen. Da das Spiel auch so kurz ist, kann man es theoretisch sogar durchspielen und dann über Steam zurückgeben. Man verpasst hier nicht wirklich was, aber wenn man es sich für vielleicht 30-50 Cent im Sale schnappt, wird man jetzt auch nicht groß enttäuscht sein. Irgendwie begeistert es mich aber trotz Portierung und Ideenklau ein wenig. Aber durch diesen Titel habe ich direkt mal wieder Lust auf „Plants vs. Zombies“ bekommen! Im Original geben Sonnenblumen Sonne, hier ballern sie mit Kernen. DU stehst allerdings gerade unter Reviewbeschuss. On the plus side are the fact that the game is easy to learn, instant playability and funny concept. On the minus side are stereotype after some time, poor economic model and low variability of both your soldiers and enemies and also the power-ups. For 2 Euros it is worth to spend to try it in my opinion. I am Vegend is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a lazy, nasty cash grab. It's essentially a tower defence game with a simple twist, you don't place your turrets, and you have to click and aim to shoot. The storyline is blatantly plagiarised from Plants vs Zombies. This is a mobile ported game and they're charging $2 USD for it. While as a general rule, mobile app garbage doesn't belong on PC and is near impossible to recommend to PC gamers for obvious reasons, this is extremely nefarious. The greedy devs, in an unacceptable insult to PC gamers, give this away for free on iOS. Once more, devs seek to gouge PC gamers simply because it's a better platform and they think they can get away with it. Unforgivable and unacceptable.

I keep a record of every game I purchase and it seems that I’ve activated this game on Steam in December 2017. Maybe it was part of a bundle I purchased somewhere and forgot to put into my database, but I seriously hope I didn’t actually pay money for this. I Am Vegend Zombiegeddon is clearly “inspired” by Plants vs. Zombies and Angry Birds. And by inspired I obviously mean it tries extremely hard to cash in to the popularity of those two games with as many similarities as it can without constituting straight up copyright infringement. However, the one thing that made both of those games fun to play was the actual gameplay of it. I can’t say as much for this game. I Am Vegend is in essence a tower defense game where you have to actively get involved in the battles. You can’t just plonk down units to defend your seeds and then watch the ensuing battle, you have to manually switch between units and actively engage in combat. While I can certainly see the appeal of this type of gameplay, it just becomes way too hectic eventually, which is clearly on purpose. The game wants you to buy powerups that either freeze enemies or clear the screen entirely. Not to mention that unit upgrades get rather expensive really fast. Given the fact that there are no microtransactions in this title and yet it features all the hallmarks of compromised game design to facilitate them, I think it can serve as a perfect example of what microtransactions do in games even by their absence: They impact a game’s design insofar as that the game forces you to deal with purpose built annoyances that you can pay to get rid of. They both artificially slow down player progression while at the same time throwing you a curveball every so often. It’s no coincidence that many games funded primarily through microtransactions give you a handful of easy levels at a time while showering you with power ups and then throw in an extremely challenging one where you’re forced to use them all up and even buy additional ones. And once those free power ups are gone, you’re much more incentivized to buy some more because hey, you’ve already lost your free allotment and you’re not going to get it back if you lose the level, so why not invest some money and beat the challenge? It’s cheaper than losing this level now and having to rebuy all of the powerups you’d need to clear the level anyway. The fact that I Am Vegend doesn’t contain any microtransactions and yet was clearly intended to throws this into sharp relief. If it wasn’t clear until now, I obviously can’t recommend enough to stay away from this title. It’s a bland mash-up of ideas executed with sub-par assets and clearly intended for predatory microtransactions.
