lowkey kinda peak, just make sure to use gzdoom instead of dosbox
I'm happy it got a remaster
Way Beyond Anything
Right, so its time for me to talk about Hexen. Hexen is like System Shock for me. It rudely invaded my comfort zone - FPS genre whilst being something else completely. Thats why I hate both games but cant call them bad. Just not my cup of tea. 🟢The visuals are nice. Although even for 1995 - a bit outdated. Very impressive work with oldas.s Id Engine. 🟡Barely existing plot - tied with Heretic, very loosely. You basically decide to rebel aganist your idiot masters and also kill THEIR master who threatens to destroy the whole world 🔴The gameplay revolves around you choosing 1 of 3 classes - each have their own...well, just pick Mage lol. 4 guns total for each class so its not much. Then you run around corridors and mazes, frantically searching for switches, buttons, puzzle items whilst also battling occasionally respawning monsters. First playthough - its a complete mess let me tell you that. 🟡Music is nice and although pretty much EVERY location has its own theme - there's only a couple of good ones - Last level and Heresiarch Seminary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMiH9hQTGfE&list=RDDMiH9hQTGfE&start_radio=1 🟡Level design is superb and VERY detailed. Sometimes - OVERLY detailed which makes switch hunting even more tedious 🟢Gigantic monster bestiary, 3 bosses total that also excludes fights with your "masters" - basically player clones. 🟢And lastly, as I've said before - 1-st playthrough is a nightmare but every next run - makes the game A LOT better.
Final Score - 7.6/10
Its rough but definetely a cool experience The main problem - most of the times you have no idea what to do and where whilst the combat is not that difficult once you get used to it. Coop experience - complete chaos tho.
hexen serisinin 95 model yapımı günümüz oyunlarına göre tabiki sarmaz ama nostalji için alınır zamanında oynamış olanları ağlatır :)
The original DOS version of Hexen Beyond Heretic is just not worth playing anymore. Totally a piece of junk!
Good Luck On Figuring Out the Level Design Before your 90th Birthday Objective Review 6 of 5 must play. 5 of 5 great story great game-play. 4 of 5 great story average game-play. 3 of 5 average story great game-play. 2 of 5 give it a go if it's you're favourite genre. 1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do, 0 of 5 play if you're a masochist. -1 of 5 avoid. Hexen: Beyond Heretic score is 0 of 5 Subjective Review My total playtime is well over 40 hours. I switched to the GZDoom equivalent hoping the better graphics and controls would keep me awake, but nope, I'd doze off then wake up running aimlessly into a wall. Here's the thing. I'd find a button or chain, push or pull it, then spend literally hours on that level trying to discover what opened, only to find out by accident, after I'd travelled via another portal to a different level, the button I pushed or chain I pulled opened something on THAT level. Who would ever think that's a clever design for a game? The map doesn't help with this. For hours I'd frustratingly wander in circles. Tedious with a well-deserved capital T. Oh for sure, I loved the first level, but hours later I wished the game had ended there. The hub had me searching for (sometimes never finding) several switches needed in order to open ONE door. Yup. You read that right. Several switches that had to be found before a certain ONE door opened, and that door on an entirely different level, so even when I found them all I'd keep searching not knowing a door opened till I accidentally came across it in my search for more switches. Usually I'd come face to face with a horde of monsters which would convey to me "ahh, a door must've opened somewhere." These switches are not easy to find. Ever heard the saying "it's like searching for a needle in a haystack"? Well this game defines that. I'd find a switch but nothing happened when I'd push/pull it. So I'd have no clue that I successfully found a switch of the seven needed. This design, as far as I got in the game, never deviated. Over and over and over. Now you understand why I'd wake up running aimlessly into a wall.
Greetings Mortal. Are you ready to die? Stone cold classic. One of the earliest, if not THE earliest first person FPS/Metroidvania crossover. Amazing atmosphere and combat.
I use to play this as a kid back when I was little. I also use to watch my Dad playing this along with Doom, Quake and Half-Life. This is also one of the first games I played on PC and is one of my favorite games of all time. This was basically 'Dark Souls' before Dark Souls existed in a FPS fashion. This was also my most-rented Nintendo 64 game as well! I'd recommend you download the soundtrack and add as a mod and play with GZDoom. This allows current screen resolutions and also controller support. 10/10.
