??? Wow, there isn't a screen or menu in the game that isn't trying to sell you SOMETHING. I can't fairly try the game because it's DISGUSTING. Devs... please, I hate to hate you so much, but I hate you SO much. Jesus Christ, you're everything wrong with gaming in one package and that's incredible. Update: Made public screenshots of my 0.1 hours and why I think nobody should touch this unfortunate pile of digital trash.
It is immediately impossible to get over the fact that an incredibly visually and mechanically simplistic game like this would be so absolutely infested with microtransactions, to the point that absolutely nothing is attainable in the game itself. It makes your game look like a cheap cash grab right out of the gate. Every "skin", as they are very generously called, because let's remember, it's a small set of pixel sprites, costs more than the entire game. Let's call a spade a spade here. There are practically no costs to keeping this game up. There cannot be. It's a lazy bare-bones Diablo/PoE clone. All the enemies you kill are the same 5 gagoos copy-pasted. Adding a handful of lazy skins/classes every season would take a single person a couple of days. So all the MTX is not a necessary evil to keep this game running. It's because you cobbled together one game, but you want to make multiple games' worth of money. Oh and to top it off, you saddled this with Easy Anti-Cheat, you know, to maintain the integrity of that hardcore Hero Siege seasonal content. Absolute shambles.
Got my whole stash tabs wiped and all I got as a response was "We can't and we won't do a thing about what you've lost, gl". What a joke. Playing of SSF too, that's even great. Imagine playing and supporting the game for 300+ hours and being told to ♥♥♥♥ yourself because of a bug on their end.
Ok game but not the one I purchased. Came back to hero siege more then a decade later and it has transformed from a rouge-like into a diablo clone with a POE skill tree.
If you quit this game for more then a year and come back to it, you will find yourself playing a completely different game. And it happened again and again. This game has no identity, the devs have no idea what they want this game to be and the CEO is a prime discord moderator.
I would like to start by saying I really like the game. But this review is being written because others should know about the incompetence that is the development staff. I've attempted to get my problems resolved through their help ticket support on Discord, only to be met with multiple things that reflect this incompetence. Back in March 2026 some friends and I started a Bloodpact and it ran through two cycles until the most recent release of Season 9. After I got my fill of Season 9, I tried to renew the Bloodpact and this is where the real issues started. - Started by pulling out an Ukko's Revenge from the Bloodpact stash and placing in my inventory. Only to immediately be unable to interact with the item in my inventory. Logged out of the game and logged back in and the item was gone. Just deleted. *Support staff says they can't restore lost items... ok so it's just deleted? This is a basic function of support for other aRPGs I've played. - Moved all my merc gear, materials, and rune/gems to the personal stash only to log onto the next character and find all that gear deleted. *Support staff indicated that these items were restored... Wait, so these items got restored, but the Ukko's Revenge that was deleted by buggy coding can't be? - Logged on and noticed that the mining and jewelcrafting that I had completely maxed out (5000 each) was set at 0. *Support staff restored the mining, but jewelcrafting was set back to 3750. While not correct since jewelcrafting was capped before, at least I could make all the items again. - Numerous items had their stats rerolled. Torch of Shadows was a White Mage torch rolled to Illusionist, multiple Girdles of War had their elements changed, ect. *Support staff response is "Items can reroll between seasonal changes as it is depends on the seed."... umm what? So all these items that took time to find the right rolls are just invalid now. - After all this I asked for a refund on the Bloodpact, but I can't even get that because developers leave that all up to Steam and Steam won't refund because the item has been consumed (meaning the Bloodpact token). I hold Steam and PAS both accountable for this farce of a scam. This interaction has left a sour taste in my mouth. I've spent hundreds of dollars on this game for cosmetics and have been a Hero Siege plus subscriber for a year now. That all changes today. I've cancelled said subscription and won't be purchasing it again. No more cosmetics for me either. I won't dump money into a development staff that shows this much incompetence.
Hero Siege isn’t a game. It’s a 12-year-long scam that somehow still has the audacity to sit on Steam and pretend it’s worth anyone’s time. The game desperately wants to be a hardcore ARPG, but in reality it’s a brain-dead, repetitive clicker where you run through the same corridors for the thousandth time, mash one button, and pick up absolute garbage loot. 23 classes? Give me a break. Most of them are just recolored skeletons with slightly different animations. “Deep builds”? Don’t make me laugh. You’re either grinding your soul away for hours or buying DLC classes because without them you look like a broke peasant next to the people who already spent money on every “unique” class. And the economy. “Player-driven market.” Fancy words for a complete dumpster fire where half the items are useless and the other half cost a fortune, while trading feels about as smooth as sending messages by carrier pigeon. Seasons? Another stroke of genius: every four months everything resets so you can buy new DLC, new skins, and new “exclusive” classes all over again. Classic “we’re a small independent studio so we’re allowed to milk you forever” ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I especially love the bold claim “BIG NO-NO for Pay to Win.” Sure. It’s just a total coincidence that all the strongest and most interesting classes are paid. It’s just a coincidence that extra inventory and stash space are sold separately. It’s just a coincidence that without spending money you feel like a second-class citizen. But hey, it’s not pay-to-win, it’s “supporting the developers.” Right. After 12 years of “active development” the game still looks and feels like a 2013 early access title, only now with microtransactions and seasons that exist solely to stop the remaining players from finally quitting. Mixed reviews is putting it mildly. The accurate score would be “Overwhelmingly Frustrating.” If you enjoy wasting dozens of hours on pointless grinding in an ugly pixel mess where the only real progression is “another season, another $8 class,” then by all means, go ahead. For everyone else: just walk away. Hero Siege is a living example of how to turn a mediocre indie game into a permanent milking machine. And the saddest part is that people still buy this garbage.
Devs will nerf your class after 1 month into the season and it becomes unplayable
This is one of the best ARPG's on the market but with some insane stupid development decisions. The review is based on an offline experience, and only offline, which might be a problem in itself as I'm sure the Team don't want you to play offline ( I assume that's the case due to some of the crazyness playing offline ) First thing first. If you are looking for a great hack and slash to burn some hours with, and don't really care about loot, min maxing, crafting, and being a total badass ass in the end game this could very well be the game for you. However if you want a game that respect your time and rewards you for playing more, and give you the option to experiment with different builds and give you enough items to play around with, this game is NOT for you. Sure, play online trade, and buy everything you need and quit after a few weeks, that's an option. However if you play offline this is what you get ( or don't get ) Almost 500 hours in, more than 7 million mobs killed. Farmed everywhere there was to farm ( except the last uber boss ). Created a specific magic finder to farm, and here comes the insane stupid developement decisions ( for me at least ) There are 2 whole item tiers that are (almost) unobtainable as a solo self found character ( unholy and angelic ). I have gotten 1 worthless end game item in all my playing time, which means the last 200 hours played have essential been without any item upgrades, great decision Team. Crafting is virtual impossible, as the materials needed are crazy rare, AND you have a high chance of breaking the item, and then you need ANOTHER rare material to uncorrupt the item. Let me give you an example. I spent at least 100 hours farming some materials to reroll a single item, and then spend ALL of the material to do NOTHING in the end on the single item, great decision Team. Mid tier runewords ( yes mid tier, not even end game tier ) are impossible to obtain. 100 of hours farming for runes and I have not been able to obtain enough mid tier runes to make a single decent runeword, great decision Team. Put in the many many different bugs in the game, which in itself are not that bad, but combine it with the missing loot it becomes annoying. For example why do you force people to use Teleport ( unless you are a person that enjoys pain ) Teleport is the only real viable movement option ( but of course you have to farm for 100 of hours unless your character has a build in teleport ) Don't use teleport, well enjoy getting stuck on everything, move slow, getting hit by almost everything and then of course getting stuck again. Don't even get me started on the wasp enemies, that machine gun you with projectiles that almost insta kill you. To come to a conclusion. I actually really enoyed the first few 100 hours. Problem is the end game. You can do everything in the game with enough time invested ( well maybe except for the last uber boss, as I think I have 2 of the 6 or 7 fragment's it takes to get a key, yes this is the problem in a nut shell, insane stupid low drop rates ) I doubt too many people play offline, but I have my reasons to do so, and I feel it's a direct punishment if you play offline ( they even gave the online SSF guys a magic find boost in season 9 what BS is that ) To end this review, my recommendation is to stay away from this game if playing offline, and you don't have 10000 hours to deck out a single character. I really really scratch my head to why they have limited loot and items this way. I love to have some chase items, sure, but to have 2 fully implemented item tiers being virtually unobtainable, together with dumb drop rates for materials and runes, are straight up just dumb in an ARPG, not a fan of your decisions Team.
i had to refund the game once i realized the amount of micro transaction this game has. from new classes, to inventory space and character slots.
