About
Headquarters: World War II is a fast paced turn-based strategy covering the Battle of Normandy in the three plot-driven campaigns and a number of skirmishes. Choose your side, form your force, assign heroes, level up your units, and use Headquarters skills to overcome the enemy.
The game's combat system is based on an easy to learn - hard to master approach. Deceptively easy at a first glance, it offers lots of possibilities:
Units have front/side/back/top armor and their positioning matters a lot
Fences and other obstacles offer a directional cover that depends on the angle of attack
Different terrain types offer various bonuses and affect Line of Sight
Destroyed vehicles and other large objects affect the battlefield and provide cover
High Ground mechanics allow multiple levels of terrain elevation that affect Line of Sight and combat effectiveness
Destructible buildings with different stages of demolition create unique challenges
All units and scenery are created with the finest attention to detail using Unreal Engine 4 to achieve a very realistic visual style:
Realistic unit models with proper physics in place
Visceral elements of devastation - burning tank hulks, ruined houses, shell craters, smoke, death, and destruction. You will witness this and many other horrors of the war
Varied surroundings - your troops will come across war-torn battlefields as well as peaceful villages with cattle and fields of grain. Mind your tanks - this quaint beauty is quite fragile
See all sides of the story by completing 3 campaigns with 9 operations in each.
The game features United States, United Kingdom, and German campaigns all set in the Normandy landings period of the war.
Between the battles, you can upgrade or change your units, level them up, and assign heroes to them, granting unique abilities
Every unit has a crew - and the crew is the heart of any unit. Losing different crew members results in different penalties for the unit. Losing a gunner means the unit has fewer attacks, losing a driver means the unit has reduced mobility, and so on.
Test your skills against an AI on each of the 6 skirmish maps. Different victory conditions require versatility in your planning and tactics.
Play skirmish battles against real opponents or 2x2 team battles with friends. The game supports multiplayer battles with up to 4 players both with real-time connection or using Slitherine’s CombatHQ system.

As soon as I realized it takes a Sherman Firefly 3 shots to kill a kubel, I uninstalled the game.
World War II Headquarters certainly won't win any innovation awards, but it is a solid turn-based strategy game set against the backdrop of World War II. The game has a distinct board game feel, so it lacks a certain depth, but a streamlined ruleset keeps things moving without unnecessary delays. Turns are swift and may result in complete disaster if you're not paying attention. Naturally, the AI is often as dumb as bricks, but the multiplayer mode makes up for this shortcoming (which certainly is quite common among comparable games). Units have distinct abilities within their class; spotters can do different things than snipers, flamethrowers, or paratroopers. Vehicle armor is modeled rudimentarily, meaning it makes a difference whether you attack a vehicle from the front or the flank. Artillery support via self-propelled guns, cannons, and mortars also works straightforwardly. The graphics are quite pleasant to look at, perhaps slightly cluttered and somewhat too resource-heavy given the visual output. But be that as it may, I've seen worse. All in all, a solid game, despite the grumbling in the reviews here. From me, it gets a clear recommendation for multiplayer, while skirmish and campaigns come with the caveat of a rather dim-witted AI. The price is up for debate, but picking it up on sale is a safe bet.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.29/day in the week to Jul 23 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Another Slitherine Home Run! I've been playing an assortment of the modern WW2 games and i always have major gripes with them all, but this one has nailed it so well. Theres a superb mix of needing Tanks, infantry and Artillery. They all have an essential role to play. The in game battles, man alive, I couldnt ask for more! If I was to have a gripe at the game, it would be about the levelling up and between missions stuff. There isnt really an army building stage which feels like a missed opportunity. it suffers from me choosing different units too. I found that its a case of "I'll save up for the best tank/infantry/arty and use that. I know a lot of WW2 games suffer the same fate. It mainly stems from having a pool of guys and no way to increase it. Maybe it needs a different approach to level it out because I'm not sure who would ever take half the stuff. Also, its missing a clear iron man mode. That aside, its awesome. So glad i bought it!

It's impossible to reconfigure the keys. It's 2026, I'll change my review when that's possible.
The WW2 game has increasingly become boring . However this one is pure FUN to play . I especially like the "line of sight" (if turned ON) . Even if you have less than fair understanding of WW2 games, it is very easy to play. I only wish they had added Numbering Units instead of looking all over the map (maybe I am missing it ?). I finished the British Campaign in two days , due to the ease of play, and am now looking forward to playing the rest of the campaigns (may even get the DLCs). The graphics is good and so is the between turn videos , which you can get rid of , by double clicking (you can double click even if you dont want to wait till your units reach the assigned location). Highly recommended for the casual enthusiast, the hardcore wargamer and everyone in between.
This game is flawed at its very core, as the enemy has the advantage in literally every regard. It doesn't matter how smart you are, the only real strategy is bringing a lot of scouts, and twice as much artillery. The enemy will always see you first, the enemy always has better positioning, and the enemy always has 10x more units than you. If that's not bad enough, they get up to 3 overwatch shots per unit, and a new shot triggers every time you walk into any square they can see. (Note that you cannot abuse overwatch spam, as the enemy is always in a bunker or dense forest. All they do is ambush, and they never actually push you. I have not seen the enemy advance on me once, unless it was into a spot where he somehow had a shot on me while I couldn't shoot back.) Often times they can shoot you twice before you're even in a position to hit them. They get reaction fire as well, so every time you shoot them, they shoot back, and since they ALWAYS have a defensive position, they will probably kill 3 of your guys per shot, and you'll be lucky if you get one. They enemy just always has the ability to shoot you so many more times than you do to them. You'll need to sacrifice a lot of men to do anything, as again, most of the time you'll be shot with overwatch twice before you can shoot them once. And then their reaction fire will wipe out the unit. Oh, and taking damage doesn't turn off their overwatch like it does in every other strategy game ever made, so you need to eat all 3 of the shots from every unit every time. You can either sacrifice a whole unit to do 1 damage to the enemy, or spam scouts and artillery and shell them from the back of the map. I can't for the life of me figure out how sight lines are calculated in this game. I lose sight of the enemy between turns despite them being literally right next to me. Like literally melee distance, and I lose sight of them somehow. The enemy literally always knows where you are, and somehow finds insane sight lines that don't make any sense. I had a hetzer take out my 76 sherman from half the map away, down a hill, and through 2 treelines. I can't see a guy I'm close enough to stab, tho. TLDR; Enemy gets to shoot you 3 times for every 1 shot you get against them and you're always outnumbered 10 to 1 by AI that blatantly cheats and somehow always has sight of you while you lose sight of people who are in melee distance
Leider eine große Enttäuschung. Ständige crasht das Spiel, was besonders im Multiplayer ärgerlich ist. Dazu viel zu wenige, winzige, enge Karten, welche keine Taktiken oder Bewegungen ermöglichen. Schade...
