Reviews
Take my review with a grain of salt, I played about six or seven minutes to get through the first fifteen puzzles or so. As a lifelong chess player the mechanics of this game feel weird. Instead of the piece you're moving taking out the piece it lands on, the piece you land on absorbs the piece you moved. Move a knight over a pawn, the pawn stays in its spot. The pieces are also shaped strangely, so it's not immediately easy to discern the difference between pieces. Maybe the game picks up and becomes more interesting, but there was nothing to hook me in the early going. If I could easily pick up what the pieces were, and didn't have to rewrite my years of chess mechanics in my muscle memory I probably would have kept going. It's frustrating undoing moves or resetting the board because the pieces I've known my entire life aren't doing what they've always done.
Not a great puzzle game. While the first few dozen levels are fine, the game notably revolves into trial & error later on. Levels get too big, with too many pieces and essentially no way to plan ahead as there are way too many variables at play, leaving you to guess randomly for ages. If the entire game would be like the first 50 or so levels, it would be a recommendation; as it stands, it is a no from me.

Instead of Hang The Kings I want to Hang Myself.
3/10 click on the piece you want to move, now click on the t, click on th, click on the til, click, cl, cli, click, click on, click on t, click on the t, click on th, cl, click, click on the tile......THANK GO IT WORKED THIS TIME now i gotta do that 7 more times to win because i already solved the puzzle well trying to move the first piece its got a weird system of rules where the moved piece dies until you get to the king and kill him with your last move.

Hang the Kings is an interesting item in Minimol Games' interminable series of chess-inspired games. While it is built around the chess pieces and the basic chess moves, we have something very different instead of capturing - the captured figure swallows the one trying to capture it. With this logic, the player needs to clean the board with the King being the last figure to be captured. So far, simple enough - but while you start with a single color for all pieces, after some levels there's a new color added. And then the capture mechanic goes berserk - if a red bishop captures a blue knight, then the result will be a red knight. As weird it sounds, it's a perfectly valid, if unusual gameplay mechanic. With the number of colours going as high as four, there's potential for fiendishly difficult puzzles. They don't materialize, eventually, but many of the later levels are quite fun. The visuals are nice, although reflections and glare are overdone and from some angles the visibility of the pieces is poor. Otherwise, the game works very well - it's nothing groundbreaking, just some decent brain-teasing fun.
One of the many chess titles from Minimol. The 'reverse capture' mechanics here may be frustrating to some. I really enjoyed the first however-many levels, but the latter ones really grind to a halt. If you like chess, pick this up for peanuts during a sale or grab one of the bundles.
Awesome
Hang The Kings is a free mobile app that's been dumped on Steam by the morally bankrupt copy + paste merchants and asset flippers at Minimol Games, as a paid Steam game. These guys just copy + paste asset store stuff to make mobile apps to scam mobile gamers, then they dump them on Steam to try scam PC gamers into paying money for this garbage. Hang The Kings is no exception, and gamers should be warned. The game contains stock/store assets and other packages (Notably Doozy's Entertainment Asssets), but the "developer" here hasn't credited the people who actually did the work for the game. While this isn't necessarily against the license for the use of those assets, claiming the work of others as your own is highly unethical. Gamers should be made aware when a developer behaves unethically, as buying games from unethical developers puts the gamers money at risk. Taking this seriously, it's just a lame, badly made chess themed puzzle game. There's little to no value for PC gamers in this free mobile app. From a technical perspective, this mobile app doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthough for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $1 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile game just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are?
