Horde-likes are kinda everywhere. Risk of Rain 1 and 2, Vampire Survivors, Megabonk, etc. You just sorta need to pick the one with the theme and aesthetics that you like. Deep Rock Galactic Survivors is one of my top ones, but this one, even in early access is fantastic. Perhaps my only gripe is the very slow metaprogression, and I think things only start getting interesting after fully completing over 25 runs to unlock enough meta currency and events to mix things up. I look forward to more content updates, but I'm already smitten when in the mood for some horde mode. It also helps if you liked Hand of Fate for the gimmick of the narrator and the gambling sub games.

I like roguelikes, VS clones and The Hand Of Fate games, so I thought this was a no-brainer, but unfortunately it misses the mark. You never feel powerful, the maps are frustrating mazes and everything feels like busywork for little payoff. I will unfortunately be refunding.
(Spiel + Supporter Pack kaufen, für zukünftiges Hand of Fate 3) Sehr schwer, sehr frustrierend, macht Spaß :o
At first many will think it's another VS copy but, for my surprise, it's not!! Similar gameplay but the story and "campaign" mode is completly unique while heepying the amazing narrators and the vibe we loved of HOF 2. Still waitying for HOF 3 (HOF 2 is one of my favorite games ever, try it if you havent yet) but while i wait this will be a good substitude.
The VS-like genre can be very hit and miss for me. I did not enjoy VS itself when it came out but enjoyed its many copies like Death Must Die or Yet Another Zombie Survivors. If I have to guess why I like the ones I did (because its not something I'm entirely sure about), its probably because I value narrative and presentation more than the pure gremlin gameplay of these games. That might seem at odds with the reason why these games are made and what makes them popular, but I guess I'm just built different. I did not enjoy slay the spire back then, but ended up loving Banners of Ruin which was dripping with atmosphere. Hordes is a curious proposition then, taking the methodical and immersive board game RPG and applying it to 'gremlin gameplay'. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, or maybe I'm just happy to be back playing an HoF game. But I love every minute I have played so far, I love listening to the GM tease me, and can't wait to see more of the game.
Very happy to see the Dealer and that Choose Your Own Adventure atmosphere back. In my opinion, what this Early Access version reveals above all is that Hordes is first and foremost a Hand of Fate game before being a bullet heaven.

I liked Hand of Fate 1 (haven't played HoF2, yet), I like Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor a ton, never expected to see the games merged, and yet! It really surprised me how fun HoFH is. The DRGS-like structure with the addition of HoF stoytelling and interesting ways of unlocking upgrades and enchantments is fantastic. As I am nearing the completion of the currently available card collection, I can't wait to see future content drops. I fully recommend it to everybody who liked bullet heavens, but wants something with stronger RPG elements.
Good so far, clearly a lot left to build (which is fine for EA). Hope devs focus on skill expression, like the recently introduced manual aim, meaningful enemy variety and build synergies.
